"Hey, new kid, what are you doing there? Where's the report I asked for?" said a woman to her subordinate.
"Well, Tsuri, I didn't dare to enter because both our bosses are currently in a—"
"I don't care, Gwen. The report must be done before lunchtime," the woman continued, walking away.
Gwen, the young woman mentioned, chased after her. "But inside, both our bosses are arguing. How can I go in and ask for the report?" she explained.
"Did you eavesdrop on their conversation? That's rude!"
Gwen made a cross sign with her hands. "I didn't eavesdrop; I just overheard it from outside."
"Anyway, the report must be on my desk before lunch, period," said her superior.
Gwen sighed heavily, confused about how to complete her task. With reluctant steps, she returned to the multinational company's office. After reaching the large office, she mustered the courage to knock on the door. However, the unexpected happened.
The door opened from the inside, someone pulled her in. "Here she is, Grandpa. She's a bit shy, so I forced her in."
Although surprised by the tall man's words next to her, Gwen was relieved that he explained the situation. "During the day, Mr. Jason Cartwright, I am Gwyneth Stewart, or commonly called Gwen, pleased to meet you," she greeted politely. "I came here to—"
"So, this is your chosen woman?"
Gwen's heart stopped for a moment upon hearing that, and she shifted her attention to the handsome man. "Chosen woman?" she muttered.
"Yes, Grandpa, she's my future wife."
"Future wife?" Gwen exclaimed loudly, even taking a step back. "I came here not for—"
"Beautiful, and she looks smart too. This time, you've chosen a life partner according to my expectations, Dom," the Grandpa proudly praised his beloved grandson. Gwen truly didn't understand the conversation between the two big bosses.
"Did you hear that, dear?" he said, smiling broadly at Gwen. "I didn't make a wrong choice with you."
Gwen furrowed her brow, puzzled by the situation. On the other hand, her heart fluttered after receiving a deadly smile from Dominic Cartwright.
"Since I've met your future wife, my business here is done. I'll head home now," Mr. Charles said, rising from his leadership chair. "You arrange the wedding date soon."
"Okay, Grandpa," Dom replied shortly.
"Take care of her, don't let her befriend those dubious guys," he told Gwen. She nodded in response, even though she didn't understand his meaning.
Mr. Charles had left, the door was closed, and now Gwen and Dominic were alone in the room. For some reason, the atmosphere changed as the long-haired handsome man walked towards his work chair.
"Hey, you, sit here. I want to talk," he ordered.
Dominic returned to his usual self, no more sweet smiles. What he showed Gwen now was his stern face. "Y-yes, sir."
"I haven't seen you before; are you a new employee here?"
"Y-yes, sir. I've only been working here for two weeks," Gwen replied hesitantly; his intimidating aura dominated.
"No wonder, there are a few things you don't know yet. One of them, employees are prohibited from entering my office when my Grandpa visits. You should've received a reprimand, but because you helped me, it's forgiven."
Gwen immediately looked sad; she didn't want to enter the room, but there was a task she had to do, so she barged in. "I'm really sorry, sir. I sincerely apologize."
"Forget about it; forget everything that happened in this room. Just pretend you never heard anything, no future wife or chosen woman. Understand?" Dom asked with a low tone.
"U-understood, sir," she replied.
"Good, now you can leave. Continue with your work!"
"Y-yes, sir. But before I leave, may I ask for the financial files from last month?" Gwen requested, not forgetting her duty. Dominic immediately provided what she needed. After that, Gwen quickly left the room.
She walked quickly towards Tsuri's desk, handing over the files. "You're amazing, Gwen. You dared to enter when those two big bosses were arguing," praised the woman, patting Gwen's shoulder. "What were they talking about? About our boss not liking women or something else."
"Not liking woman? What does that mean?"
"It's become common knowledge that Mr. Dominic, who is handsome, doesn't like women. The news spread widely, causing job contract cancellations. The only way to suppress the gossip was to marry him off to a woman," Tsuri explained at length.
"And then?"
"Unfortunately, until now, he hasn't found a suitable girl," added Tsuri. Gwen fell silent, trying to connect the information she obtained with the earlier events. "So, what were they talking about inside?"
"I don't know," she answered shortly. Gwen didn't want to talk about what happened earlier.
"How are you holding up? Where are the files I requested?"
Gwen handed over the files to her boss and quickly returned to her desk. She lowered her head while mumbling. "Forget about what happened earlier, Gwen. He doesn't like women. You're just an excuse for his grandfather."
The woman diverted her thoughts by returning to work, and Gwen immersed herself in all her tasks. Unnoticed, lunchtime arrived. Tsuri approached her, inviting her to have lunch, but Gwen declined. Somehow, she just wanted to be alone now.
After Tsuri left, the beautiful woman returned to her computer screen. But once again, someone disturbed her; Dominic suddenly approached. "To my office now, there's something I want to say."
After saying that, Dominic left just like that. Gwen struggled to forget the earlier incident, and now, the man came to her again, inviting her for a private conversation. "Should I go there or not?" she thought. "But this is a direct order from Mr. Boss."
"You haven't moved yet?" said the man. Apparently, Dominic was standing not far from her desk.
"S-sorry, sir," said Gwen, quickly stepping towards her boss.
"There's something I need to talk to you about; come with me!" he ordered. His baritone voice made Gwen not dare to refuse; she walked behind the long-haired man. But suddenly, Dominic stopped in his tracks.
"Why stop, sir?"
"We're changing locations; we won't talk in my office," he explained. Gwen furrowed her brow, confused by her boss's behavior.
"Where are we going to talk then?"
"Grandpa invited us to lunch, so we have to meet him," he said. The man turned around and headed towards the elevator at the end of the corridor."I need to tidy up my desk first, sir. And grab my bag," Gwen interrupted the man's steps."Hurry up, clean up. I'll wait downstairs."Gwen stood frozen, trying to convince herself that she was now going to lunch alone with her boss and his family. "Is this a dream?" she muttered while patting her cheeks. "Don't be too happy; he doesn't like women. You're just an excuse," she continued, quickly straightening her desk. Gwen didn't forget to put her phone in her bag. With hurried steps, she headed to the elevator. Fortunately, the elevator came quickly; she entered and pressed the button on the wall, aiming for the basement floor where the company executives parked their vehicles. In a few seconds, she had arrived at the parking lot.Gwen scanned her surroundings, fascinated by the rows of expensive cars. "Which one is Mr. Boss's car," she won
Dominic suddenly coughed after hearing his grandfather's question. He hadn't been thinking about marriage at all; all that occupied his mind right now was what the right reason to tell his grandfather that his relationship with Gwen had ended.Gwen felt the same way as she patted her boss's back. She contemplated what it would be like to marry someone as cold as Dominic. She also thought about her friends' reactions when they found out she was having lunch with both bosses."Isn't it better to get it over with quickly?" the grandfather continued. "Honestly, I'm very disturbed by that rumor.""I've told you how many times, Grandpa, if you trust me, there's no need to worry about that gossip," Dominic replied."I've gone from trust to doubt and back to trust. I've tried hard to explain to our clients about you, and I've closed my ears tightly, but that doesn't seem to be effective. It looks like they need to see you married.""There will be a response from them, saying I'm getting marri
The mysterious man then left them, and Gwen, still confused by Dominic's words, asked, "What do you mean, Sir?""It's nothing, let's go in quickly," he pointed towards the open elevator door, once again leaving them alone. In a short time, both of them reached the basement floor. While Dominic was searching for his car, Gwen walked to the public bus stop. As usual, she commuted using public transportation. After waiting for some time, the vehicle she was waiting for finally appeared. Her journey from the office to home was faster than usual, with no significant traffic. Once at home, Gwen immediately cleaned herself, changed clothes, and rested. Her long day quickly ended and transitioned into a new one.It felt like Gwen had just slept for a short while when she had to wake up again because her alarm had sounded. After stretching, she got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. It didn't take long for the tall woman to get ready for work, and after styling her hair, Gwen was ready to
"Yes, I do," Gwen said firmly. Dominic was stunned for a few seconds; he didn't expect his employee to respond so quickly. Nevertheless, he continued with his plan, embracing Gwen tightly."I don't know what you're planning, but I hope you won't hurt my grandpa," he whispered before releasing the embrace. Gwen only responded with a smile that was difficult for Dominic to interpret."I didn't expect everything to happen so quickly. There's nothing to worry about now; you'll get married the day after tomorrow. Just accept it, and let me handle everything," he said, a broad smile on his face. After Mr. Charles left, Dominic detained Gwen in his office. "If I don't come out now, the gossip will spread, and more rumors will emerge," she said."If you're bothered, just leave the company," Dominic replied."I can't, Sir. I need this job for my family. So, let me go to work.""You don't need to work anymore because soon you'll be part of the Cartwright family," he ordered. "Finish your work,
"I don't want to be pregnant! I'm not ready to have a child!" Gwen exclaimed, her voice rising as she glared at Dominic. "I should never have agreed to this contract marriage.""Wait, don't get emotional like this. We can talk about it calmly," Dominic replied, stopping Gwen as she walked away from him."What's there to talk about? I don't want to be pregnant with your child!""Who said anything about getting you pregnant? I don't plan on having a child with anyone. So don't overreact like this," Dominic responded, his words stabbing at Gwen's heart, causing her to cry.Seeing her cry, Dominic turned his face away. He couldn't bear to see Gwen cry, especially because of him. Gwen continued walking to her room while Dominic could only watch her back, knowing she would soon be his wife.As the night wore on, Dominic couldn't sleep, thinking about the wedding ceremony that would take place the next morning. He felt a mix of emotions, anxious about his future with Gwen, compounded by the
Gwen didn't answer the old man's question; she was busy thinking of an excuse. Mr. Charles barged into the room, his actions making Gwen feel even more confused and at a loss."Did he tell you where he was going?" he asked. Gwen shook her head briefly. Mr. Charles sighed deeply, feeling that his grandson hadn't changed yet. "Be patient, I'm sure Dominic will change and become a better husband for you."Gwen smiled and nodded. She thought Dominic's grandfather would leave the room, but it seemed he wanted to wait for his grandson to return. She took out her phone and sent Dominic a message, but he hadn't taken his phone with him. Neither she nor Mr. Charles could reach him. After ten minutes of waiting, Mr. Charles grew bored. "I'll have my people look for him; you just wait here," the old man said."There's no need, Grandpa. I think he just went out to get some fresh air nearby," Gwen replied, not wanting to involve others in her problem with Dominic."It's not right for him to leave
"I haven't given Grandpa an answer yet, which is why I'm here," Dominic replied. He could have made the decision himself without waiting for Gwen's approval, but he respected the woman who was now his wife. They discussed whether they would go on a honeymoon as Grandpa wanted."Grandpa wants us to go on a honeymoon so I can get pregnant quickly," Gwen interjected."That's why I'm here, to ask your opinion. So what do you think?"Gwen fell silent, busy pondering whether to go on the honeymoon or not. Dominic secretly smiled at the confusion of the beautiful woman in front of him."Will Grandpa be angry if we refuse his gift?" Gwen asked.Dominic nodded quickly, then added, "You're so afraid of getting pregnant, aren't you?" Apart from informing Gwen about the wedding gift, Dominic also wanted to k
"So what if I did? We are officially husband and wife now," Dominic whispered, his face looking incredibly seductive.Gwen panicked, trying to distance herself from him. "Don't get any ideas!"Dominic grew even more playful, moving closer to Gwen, who kept maintaining a safe distance. The knock on Dominic's door added tension to the situation. "Grandpa is outside, let's show him we're enjoying our first night together."Gwen's eyes widened at the mention of their first night; she had forgotten it was their wedding night. Dominic's phone rang again, and he deliberately showed it to Gwen."Look, Grandpa is calling me again. Let's show him we're a happy couple," Dominic teased, continuing to play with his wife."Don't be ridiculous. When I say no, it means no," Gwen said firmly. "I'm not pregnant yet, or we could cancel the honeymoon plans. Grandpa's outside, isn't he?"The long-haired woman quickly got off the bed and tried to open the door, b
