"Yes, I do," Gwen said firmly. Dominic was stunned for a few seconds; he didn't expect his employee to respond so quickly. Nevertheless, he continued with his plan, embracing Gwen tightly.
"I don't know what you're planning, but I hope you won't hurt my grandpa," he whispered before releasing the embrace. Gwen only responded with a smile that was difficult for Dominic to interpret.
"I didn't expect everything to happen so quickly. There's nothing to worry about now; you'll get married the day after tomorrow. Just accept it, and let me handle everything," he said, a broad smile on his face.
After Mr. Charles left, Dominic detained Gwen in his office. "If I don't come out now, the gossip will spread, and more rumors will emerge," she said.
"If you're bothered, just leave the company," Dominic replied.
"I can't, Sir. I need this job for my family. So, let me go to work."
"You don't need to work anymore because soon you'll be part of the Cartwright family," he ordered. "Finish your work, don't forget to make a resignation letter. I'll take care of the rest."
"Okay, Sir. Excuse me then."
Gwen walked toward the door, quickly opening it. She smiled at Tsuri and some other colleagues who were eavesdropping on their conversation. "Why did it take you so long to come out?" Tsuri asked.
"Earlier, the Big Boss came. What were you talking about?" another colleague added.
"Are you crying? Are they mocking you?" another one continued.
"Calm down, friends, nothing happened inside. We had a good conversation," Gwen reassured her colleagues, reluctantly lying. "Now it's time to work, scatter... scatter..."
All her friends followed her words, going to their respective workstations. She, too, sat in her office, 'dropping' her head on the desk. She was puzzled by what had happened to her today; everything had happened so quickly.
When she woke up this morning, she was still single, and now she was officially engaged to Dominic Cartwright. "How do I tell my parents about this?" she mumbled. Gwen remembered Dominic's instructions to finish her work before resigning.
She quickly turned on her computer, diligently completing all her tasks. Gwen tried to focus because, indeed, this was her last day at work. She even declined invitations for lunch from her friends and chose to write a resignation letter and hand it over to Dominic.
Nothing had changed; she went home without being picked up by her prospective husband but used public transportation. When she arrived home, she did nothing because all the wedding preparations were taken care of by Mr. Charles. Gwen acted as if nothing had happened.
Only the next day did she receive calls from her friends and her boss about her resignation. Gwen responded casually, without a single word about her impending marriage. She was too afraid they wouldn't believe her story.
Towards noon, a car suddenly stopped in front of her rented house. Dominic came to meet her and invited her to pick up her parents at the station.
"How could I contact them without my knowledge?" Gwen wondered.
"It doesn't matter how I did it. Now pack your things because, for the time being, you'll stay in a hotel with your parents until the wedding party," Dominic instructed.
Gwen followed her future spouse's command, quickly packing her belongings into a suitcase. After that, they went to the city's station to pick up her parents. When they arrived, it turned out Gwen's parents were already waiting at the station's exit.
They immediately embraced, releasing the longing they had kept hidden for so long. Initially, they disagreed with Gwen getting married at a young age, but after learning about Dominic's family background, they changed their minds and allowed their only daughter to marry the handsome man.
Their temporary residence was no ordinary place; Dominic chose a luxurious and complete five-star hotel for Gwen and her family.
"We will have dinner with my grandfather. You want to meet him, right?"
"Of course, we need to get to know your family," replied Gwen's father.
Dominic tried to blend in with Gwen's parents, who seemed very accepting of their prospective son-in-law. Even though it was clear they were still confused about all of this. Gwen's mother even quietly interrogated her daughter.
"You're not pregnant already, are you, dear?"
"No, Mom, I take care of my body," she said with a radiant smile.
The evening arrived quickly, and Dominic closed off the entire restaurant area at the hotel so that the two families could talk comfortably. As it turned out, Mr. Charles was very sociable, as he was already very familiar with Gwen's father.
The dinner went smoothly and felt very familial. Mr. Charles explained the schedule for the next day, and Gwen frowned when she learned that there would be no celebration after the wedding ceremony.
Dominic noticed Gwen's change of expression, approached her, and said, "A simple or extravagant wedding party?"
"Whatever you prefer, Dad," she replied briefly, but a subtle smile appeared on Gwen's beautiful face.
The dinner was over, and they all prepared to return to their respective rooms. Tonight, Dominic and his grandfather also stayed at the hotel because the wedding venue was not far away.
"Both of you, come to my room. There's something I want to discuss with you," the grandfather said to the soon-to-be-married couple. Dominic and Gwen nodded, indicating their agreement to go to the middle-aged man's room.
"What's the matter with Grandpa inviting us here?" Dominic asked.
"I want to talk seriously with you, especially with Gwen," the man said. "The purpose of marriage is to have descendants. I want Dominic to marry soon to have a Cartwright family heir. So, I hope after marriage, you must get pregnant soon."
"Pregnant?" Dominic and Gwen said simultaneously.
"Why are you surprised?" the confused grandfather asked.
"We agreed to postpone having children because Gwen is still young, and I'm busy with office matters," Dominic explained, searching for the right reasons to reject his grandfather's request.
"I don't think young age affects pregnancy, and you can reduce your office workload," the grandfather replied. "So, I ask that you must have offspring. Prove to everyone that you can have children."
Dominic shook his head, still refusing his grandfather's request. "But not now; we are not ready to have children."
"Why are you the only one refusing, Dom? Since earlier, Gwen has been silent."
Dominic immediately looked at the woman beside him. Gwen remained silent, contemplating many things at the moment.
"I assume you agree, Gwen. I want great-grandchildren, soon!"
"I don't want to be pregnant! I'm not ready to have a child!" Gwen exclaimed, her voice rising as she glared at Dominic. "I should never have agreed to this contract marriage.""Wait, don't get emotional like this. We can talk about it calmly," Dominic replied, stopping Gwen as she walked away from him."What's there to talk about? I don't want to be pregnant with your child!""Who said anything about getting you pregnant? I don't plan on having a child with anyone. So don't overreact like this," Dominic responded, his words stabbing at Gwen's heart, causing her to cry.Seeing her cry, Dominic turned his face away. He couldn't bear to see Gwen cry, especially because of him. Gwen continued walking to her room while Dominic could only watch her back, knowing she would soon be his wife.As the night wore on, Dominic couldn't sleep, thinking about the wedding ceremony that would take place the next morning. He felt a mix of emotions, anxious about his future with Gwen, compounded by the
Gwen didn't answer the old man's question; she was busy thinking of an excuse. Mr. Charles barged into the room, his actions making Gwen feel even more confused and at a loss."Did he tell you where he was going?" he asked. Gwen shook her head briefly. Mr. Charles sighed deeply, feeling that his grandson hadn't changed yet. "Be patient, I'm sure Dominic will change and become a better husband for you."Gwen smiled and nodded. She thought Dominic's grandfather would leave the room, but it seemed he wanted to wait for his grandson to return. She took out her phone and sent Dominic a message, but he hadn't taken his phone with him. Neither she nor Mr. Charles could reach him. After ten minutes of waiting, Mr. Charles grew bored. "I'll have my people look for him; you just wait here," the old man said."There's no need, Grandpa. I think he just went out to get some fresh air nearby," Gwen replied, not wanting to involve others in her problem with Dominic."It's not right for him to leave
"I haven't given Grandpa an answer yet, which is why I'm here," Dominic replied. He could have made the decision himself without waiting for Gwen's approval, but he respected the woman who was now his wife. They discussed whether they would go on a honeymoon as Grandpa wanted."Grandpa wants us to go on a honeymoon so I can get pregnant quickly," Gwen interjected."That's why I'm here, to ask your opinion. So what do you think?"Gwen fell silent, busy pondering whether to go on the honeymoon or not. Dominic secretly smiled at the confusion of the beautiful woman in front of him."Will Grandpa be angry if we refuse his gift?" Gwen asked.Dominic nodded quickly, then added, "You're so afraid of getting pregnant, aren't you?" Apart from informing Gwen about the wedding gift, Dominic also wanted to k
"So what if I did? We are officially husband and wife now," Dominic whispered, his face looking incredibly seductive.Gwen panicked, trying to distance herself from him. "Don't get any ideas!"Dominic grew even more playful, moving closer to Gwen, who kept maintaining a safe distance. The knock on Dominic's door added tension to the situation. "Grandpa is outside, let's show him we're enjoying our first night together."Gwen's eyes widened at the mention of their first night; she had forgotten it was their wedding night. Dominic's phone rang again, and he deliberately showed it to Gwen."Look, Grandpa is calling me again. Let's show him we're a happy couple," Dominic teased, continuing to play with his wife."Don't be ridiculous. When I say no, it means no," Gwen said firmly. "I'm not pregnant yet, or we could cancel the honeymoon plans. Grandpa's outside, isn't he?"The long-haired woman quickly got off the bed and tried to open the door, b
"Noisy!!"Dominic was startled by Gwen's sudden sharp voice. "Who's being noisy?""Don't make a sound," Gwen continued."This is my room, but you keep telling me what to do," Dominic retorted."Even though it's your room, I'm staying here too, so please cooperate," Gwen replied, grabbing a pillow and covering her ears. Dominic smiled again, puzzled by her behavior but also finding her amusing. The room fell silent once more, and Gwen's breathing became steady. Dominic, who was already sleepy, soon drifted off to sleep. Thus, the newlyweds spent their first night together. As night turned to dawn, Gwen, who was used to waking up early, opened her eyes. "One day has passed, today is a new day," she thought. She glanced at Dominic, still sound asleep on the long, comfortable sofa. Gwen got up, took a blanket, and covered him.She guessed that Dominic was cold while sleeping. After covering the handsome man, she headed to the balcony. Gwen always enjoyed watching the sunrise, the sky's vi
“Who?” asked Gwen, curious.“I don’t know, but he seems interested in you,” replied Dominic curtly.“Don't be jealous,” Gwen teased her husband.Dominic glared at her. “Who’s jealous? I don’t care who you go with as long as Grandpa doesn’t find out.”“Good then. Thanks for being such a good husband,” Gwen replied with a smile, though she felt hurt inside. She hadn't expected Dominic to say such things, confirming her suspicion that he never really wanted her from the start.“As a good husband, I need to protect you from that creep. Let’s get out of here,” said Dominic, grabbing Gwen's hand. They moved to another store, where Dominic wanted to buy new pants and asked Gwen to pick them out.“I won't choose anything in bright colors. How’s that?”“No problem, since I asked you to pick them,” Dominic replied. “Go ahead and choose; I’ll be back shortly, I need to meet a client.”Dominic left, leaving Gwen confused. She didn’t understand why he left so abruptly. Her confusion grew when a sto
“You must be hungry to be acting this way,” Gwen quipped, though she still felt something was off about her husband.“I’m serious. Don’t take this as a joke. We are husband and wife now. I’ve fulfilled my duties but haven’t received my full rights,” Dominic continued, his words leaving Gwen silent.“I’ll try to be a good wife, but when it comes to children, I’m not ready yet,” Gwen confessed. Before Dominic could respond, the waiter arrived with their food. “Let’s eat first. We can talk about this later.”Gwen agreed with her husband, and in front of them were several enticing dishes. They started with the young president’s favorite dish, eating heartily.Delicious food seemed to soothe and unite them. They enjoyed their meal together until the very last dish. After their bellies were
“What are you doing?” the old man demanded. “Or maybe you two fought, and Gwen left you. Come on, Dominic, you’re supposed to be on your honeymoon, why—”“No, Grandpa, we didn’t fight. Our relationship is fine, Gwen just went out to buy something,” Dominic interrupted his grandfather.“Buy what? Why didn’t you just send someone to get whatever you need?” the old man replied, still suspicious that something might be amiss between his two grandchildren. From a distance, Gwen appeared, panicked when she saw Grandpa standing in front of her husband's room door. She had no choice but to keep walking and start thinking of an excuse for why she was outside the room.Dominic felt relieved when he saw his wife walking toward them. “So, did you get what you were looking for?” Dominic asked his wife. Gwen, not knowing what her husband meant, became confused, especially when Grandpa also asked her.“What were you looking for?”“Something for women, so I had to go get it myself,” Gwen replied conv
