Dominic suddenly coughed after hearing his grandfather's question. He hadn't been thinking about marriage at all; all that occupied his mind right now was what the right reason to tell his grandfather that his relationship with Gwen had ended.
Gwen felt the same way as she patted her boss's back. She contemplated what it would be like to marry someone as cold as Dominic. She also thought about her friends' reactions when they found out she was having lunch with both bosses.
"Isn't it better to get it over with quickly?" the grandfather continued. "Honestly, I'm very disturbed by that rumor."
"I've told you how many times, Grandpa, if you trust me, there's no need to worry about that gossip," Dominic replied.
"I've gone from trust to doubt and back to trust. I've tried hard to explain to our clients about you, and I've closed my ears tightly, but that doesn't seem to be effective. It looks like they need to see you married."
"There will be a response from them, saying I'm getting married just to cover up that gossip," Dominic argued with his grandfather. "So let us date first; talking about marriage is complicated, you know."
"We'll make it easy. I'll take care of everything. Just mention the date, concept, and place you want," the grandfather said.
Dominic looked at Gwen with a gaze she didn't understand. Then he spoke to his grandfather again, "It seems like Gwen isn't ready to get married yet, Grandpa."
"Is that true, Gwen?"
She was certainly surprised to get such a sudden question. She was confused about how to answer, and Mr. Charles seemed to be waiting for her response.
"Well, Mr. Charles, I have some things I still want to achieve before getting married. So, I don't want to rush into marriage, and besides, marriage requires comp—"
The big man spoke again, "What do you want to achieve? I will help you get it after you get married. Gwen, you need to become Dom's wife as soon as possible."
"Grandpa can't force Gwen like that," Dominic retorted. But his actions only angered his grandfather; the man suddenly left the room. Gwen, in panic, tried to chase him but was stopped by her boss.
"Shouldn't we apologize, Sir?"
"Just let it be. If we apologize to him, Grandpa will set the date for us," Dominic said. "Are you done eating? Can we go home now?"
"Yes, Sir," Gwen replied briefly. Although she still wanted to try other foods, it was not possible for her. He walked towards the cashier and paid for all their meals. Gwen opened her mouth in surprise when she learned the amount Dominic had to pay.
Now they were on their way home, just like before. There was no conversation between them. Gwen thought about the big man's feelings now, but there was something else. Tuan Charles was forcing his granddaughter to marry, but he didn't inquire about the background of his future grandson-in-law.
"My grandfather is a selective person; he's quite strict in choosing my partner. But since I broke up with my girlfriend and the rumor spread rapidly, he just said to marry any woman," Dominic revealed. He seemed to hear Gwen's inner thoughts.
Of course, she was shocked to hear Dominic's recent confession, and her question received an immediate answer. She felt that Mr. Charles truly cared for his granddaughter. She then reiterated the question that troubled her. "So, from any background, it's allowed?"
Dominic nodded in response to Gwen's question. There were many other things she wanted to ask her boss, but she felt uneasy. Now they were almost at the office, and Gwen had prepared an excuse for her friends' inquiries about her late arrival; lunch break had ended an hour ago.
The car was parked again, and Gwen and Dominic were waiting for the arrival of the elevator. "I'm sorry for involving you," he said as he entered the metal box.
"Apologies if I didn't help, Sir. I hope the problem can be resolved quickly," she said sincerely, and Dominic smiled.
Fortunately, when the elevator opened, there was no one inside, avoiding potential new gossip if someone saw them arriving together. They parted ways midway; Gwen headed to her workspace, while Dominic went to the financial department.
As she suspected, Tsuri was already waiting for her, and the woman's face looked displeased. "Where were you?"
"Sorry, Tsuri, I wasn't feeling well earlier, so I went to the health room and took a nap. I apologize for not informing you," Gwen lied to her boss.
"Next time, you can't do that. You have to ask for my permission first. Also, make sure your phone is always active so I can easily reach you," Tsuri said. After uttering those words, Tsuri returned to her office.
Now Gwen could breathe a sigh of relief because her boss didn't get angry with her. She sat in her office chair, then charged her phone's battery, which had run out, causing her to be unreachable by her friends.
She tried to continue her activities, although her mind was busy thinking about other things. Gwen tried to focus on her tasks. Time passed quickly, heading towards the end of the workday.
Some employees began to queue for the elevator to go downstairs, but Gwen was still working on her report because Tsuri asked for it suddenly. Even when the office was empty, Gwen continued her work.
"Go home, extra working hours aren't counted as overtime," Dominic whispered.
"Alright, Sir, I'll leave as soon as I finish this," Gwen replied without looking at her boss.
"Go home now, or you'll stay overnight."
Checkmate.
There was nothing Gwen could do except tidy up her desk and shut down her computer. Luckily, she had already finished her report. What surprised her was that Dominic stayed there; it seemed like he was deliberately waiting for her.
Curious about Dominic's strange behavior, Gwen asked him, "Is there something you want to—"
"No, if I go down first, you might not be able to leave, so I'll wait until you're done," Dominic explained in a manly voice. This time, he didn't look cool at all; instead, he seemed very attentive to her.
"Thank you very much," Gwen replied. She chose to leave first because she was afraid Dominic would be uncomfortable if they left together. However, this action only made Dominic angry with her. He chased after Gwen and grabbed her hand; now they stood facing each other.
"I'm trying to get closer to you, but you're not responding well to me," he said. Gwen could see her boss's face holding back anger. Unbeknownst to both of them, someone was secretly taking pictures of them, ready to spread the news.
"There will be new gossip tomorrow."
The mysterious man then left them, and Gwen, still confused by Dominic's words, asked, "What do you mean, Sir?""It's nothing, let's go in quickly," he pointed towards the open elevator door, once again leaving them alone. In a short time, both of them reached the basement floor. While Dominic was searching for his car, Gwen walked to the public bus stop. As usual, she commuted using public transportation. After waiting for some time, the vehicle she was waiting for finally appeared. Her journey from the office to home was faster than usual, with no significant traffic. Once at home, Gwen immediately cleaned herself, changed clothes, and rested. Her long day quickly ended and transitioned into a new one.It felt like Gwen had just slept for a short while when she had to wake up again because her alarm had sounded. After stretching, she got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. It didn't take long for the tall woman to get ready for work, and after styling her hair, Gwen was ready to
"Yes, I do," Gwen said firmly. Dominic was stunned for a few seconds; he didn't expect his employee to respond so quickly. Nevertheless, he continued with his plan, embracing Gwen tightly."I don't know what you're planning, but I hope you won't hurt my grandpa," he whispered before releasing the embrace. Gwen only responded with a smile that was difficult for Dominic to interpret."I didn't expect everything to happen so quickly. There's nothing to worry about now; you'll get married the day after tomorrow. Just accept it, and let me handle everything," he said, a broad smile on his face. After Mr. Charles left, Dominic detained Gwen in his office. "If I don't come out now, the gossip will spread, and more rumors will emerge," she said."If you're bothered, just leave the company," Dominic replied."I can't, Sir. I need this job for my family. So, let me go to work.""You don't need to work anymore because soon you'll be part of the Cartwright family," he ordered. "Finish your work,
"I don't want to be pregnant! I'm not ready to have a child!" Gwen exclaimed, her voice rising as she glared at Dominic. "I should never have agreed to this contract marriage.""Wait, don't get emotional like this. We can talk about it calmly," Dominic replied, stopping Gwen as she walked away from him."What's there to talk about? I don't want to be pregnant with your child!""Who said anything about getting you pregnant? I don't plan on having a child with anyone. So don't overreact like this," Dominic responded, his words stabbing at Gwen's heart, causing her to cry.Seeing her cry, Dominic turned his face away. He couldn't bear to see Gwen cry, especially because of him. Gwen continued walking to her room while Dominic could only watch her back, knowing she would soon be his wife.As the night wore on, Dominic couldn't sleep, thinking about the wedding ceremony that would take place the next morning. He felt a mix of emotions, anxious about his future with Gwen, compounded by the
Gwen didn't answer the old man's question; she was busy thinking of an excuse. Mr. Charles barged into the room, his actions making Gwen feel even more confused and at a loss."Did he tell you where he was going?" he asked. Gwen shook her head briefly. Mr. Charles sighed deeply, feeling that his grandson hadn't changed yet. "Be patient, I'm sure Dominic will change and become a better husband for you."Gwen smiled and nodded. She thought Dominic's grandfather would leave the room, but it seemed he wanted to wait for his grandson to return. She took out her phone and sent Dominic a message, but he hadn't taken his phone with him. Neither she nor Mr. Charles could reach him. After ten minutes of waiting, Mr. Charles grew bored. "I'll have my people look for him; you just wait here," the old man said."There's no need, Grandpa. I think he just went out to get some fresh air nearby," Gwen replied, not wanting to involve others in her problem with Dominic."It's not right for him to leave
"I haven't given Grandpa an answer yet, which is why I'm here," Dominic replied. He could have made the decision himself without waiting for Gwen's approval, but he respected the woman who was now his wife. They discussed whether they would go on a honeymoon as Grandpa wanted."Grandpa wants us to go on a honeymoon so I can get pregnant quickly," Gwen interjected."That's why I'm here, to ask your opinion. So what do you think?"Gwen fell silent, busy pondering whether to go on the honeymoon or not. Dominic secretly smiled at the confusion of the beautiful woman in front of him."Will Grandpa be angry if we refuse his gift?" Gwen asked.Dominic nodded quickly, then added, "You're so afraid of getting pregnant, aren't you?" Apart from informing Gwen about the wedding gift, Dominic also wanted to k
"So what if I did? We are officially husband and wife now," Dominic whispered, his face looking incredibly seductive.Gwen panicked, trying to distance herself from him. "Don't get any ideas!"Dominic grew even more playful, moving closer to Gwen, who kept maintaining a safe distance. The knock on Dominic's door added tension to the situation. "Grandpa is outside, let's show him we're enjoying our first night together."Gwen's eyes widened at the mention of their first night; she had forgotten it was their wedding night. Dominic's phone rang again, and he deliberately showed it to Gwen."Look, Grandpa is calling me again. Let's show him we're a happy couple," Dominic teased, continuing to play with his wife."Don't be ridiculous. When I say no, it means no," Gwen said firmly. "I'm not pregnant yet, or we could cancel the honeymoon plans. Grandpa's outside, isn't he?"The long-haired woman quickly got off the bed and tried to open the door, b
"Noisy!!"Dominic was startled by Gwen's sudden sharp voice. "Who's being noisy?""Don't make a sound," Gwen continued."This is my room, but you keep telling me what to do," Dominic retorted."Even though it's your room, I'm staying here too, so please cooperate," Gwen replied, grabbing a pillow and covering her ears. Dominic smiled again, puzzled by her behavior but also finding her amusing. The room fell silent once more, and Gwen's breathing became steady. Dominic, who was already sleepy, soon drifted off to sleep. Thus, the newlyweds spent their first night together. As night turned to dawn, Gwen, who was used to waking up early, opened her eyes. "One day has passed, today is a new day," she thought. She glanced at Dominic, still sound asleep on the long, comfortable sofa. Gwen got up, took a blanket, and covered him.She guessed that Dominic was cold while sleeping. After covering the handsome man, she headed to the balcony. Gwen always enjoyed watching the sunrise, the sky's vi
“Who?” asked Gwen, curious.“I don’t know, but he seems interested in you,” replied Dominic curtly.“Don't be jealous,” Gwen teased her husband.Dominic glared at her. “Who’s jealous? I don’t care who you go with as long as Grandpa doesn’t find out.”“Good then. Thanks for being such a good husband,” Gwen replied with a smile, though she felt hurt inside. She hadn't expected Dominic to say such things, confirming her suspicion that he never really wanted her from the start.“As a good husband, I need to protect you from that creep. Let’s get out of here,” said Dominic, grabbing Gwen's hand. They moved to another store, where Dominic wanted to buy new pants and asked Gwen to pick them out.“I won't choose anything in bright colors. How’s that?”“No problem, since I asked you to pick them,” Dominic replied. “Go ahead and choose; I’ll be back shortly, I need to meet a client.”Dominic left, leaving Gwen confused. She didn’t understand why he left so abruptly. Her confusion grew when a sto
