Chapter 97

Sarah’s POV:

I winced in pain with my eyes closed. I cried hard when I remembered how close I was to finding out who the culprit was. I was this close to finding out her identity, and if I had gone with my gun, it wouldn't have been hard for me to take her life.

I gathered the strength and tried to stand up when I felt a sharp pain in my ankles, and I screamed, “Ahh ahh.”

I held my leg tightly, and I realised that I had injured my left ankle while I was fighting that bastard. It was too painful to bear, but I managed to get up.

After catching my breath for some time, I leapt, trekking a distance to my car, and got in. I felt happy that I hadn't injured my right leg, or I wouldn't know how to drive and find my way back to the house.

I started the car engine and immediately rushed down to the hospital to dress my swollen leg. I wanted it to be checked properly and hoped that I would be able to attend Elena's court hearing today. I could not afford to miss it fit anything.

The doctor dressed the wound properly, and I silently screamed in pain. I closed my eyes. It was hurting so bad that I almost bit my tongue off.

When they were done dressing the leg, the doctor stood up.

“You will be fine in no time. After a few weeks, your legs will be back to normal. I had prescribed some painkillers that would help to relieve the pain.” The doctor explained calmly.

“Thank you so much, doctor,” I said and carefully walked out of the examination room.

I collected my prescribed drugs and walked out to the parking lot. I got into my car and exhaled loudly before hitting the road. I arrived at the house when the sun was rising and my mother ran downstairs to me.

“Where have you been, Sarah? I have been calling your phone. Where did you go? Are you alright? she asked.

I opened the car door and slowly got down when she noticed my sprained ankle. Her facial expression changed, and she was filled with worry.

“What happened, Sarah? What happened to your keg?” She asked, scanning my body. “Why are you dressed like this?”

"Mother, please help me get into my room. Enough of the questions,” I responded. My leg was hurting. My mother reached out to me and helped me into my room.

She sat on the bed and looked in the eyes. “Now talk to me. What happened?”

“Mother, I tried to catch the blackmailer. It was a woman. Not a man. She is a woman, and she had been threatening me. I went to give her the at midnight, and I tried my best to know who it was. We broke into a fight, but she got away.” I explained, reducing the tone of my voice.

My mother’s face was filled with worry; she scoffed. “Why did you get into a fight with her? What if she was armed? Didn't you think about that? She would have shot you. Are you now playing with your life?” my mother asked.

“Mother, I had to. I wanted to kill her so that she could get over our neck. If we keep giving her money, she won't stop, and she will track me. I don't know how.” I explained.

My mother bit her lips and paced around the room. “Now we have a bigger problem because she would come back stronger,” she said and walked up to me.

“Just get some rest and get better. Leave that woman for me to handle. I will make sure that she gets what she deserves. We will okay it, fire for fire,” my mother spoke. Her voice was filled with determination.

“Now get some rest,” she said.

She quickly placed me on the bed and called Marina. “Marina! Marina,” Immediately, Chloe walked into the room.

“Madam, it's Marina’s day off. How may I be of help?” she asked.

“Watch over her and make sure that she gets everything she needs,” my mother said and walked out of the room.
