Chapter 69

Elena’s POV:

I walked to the rooftop with my gym wear, and I sat on a fluffy rug. I needed sunlight, and I also resumed some exercises and meditation. To get better and see if there would be a chance of me getting pregnant again.

I waited for Zoey’s arrival. She is like the sister and family that I never had. She is so caring.

It's been two weeks since my fight with Nicklaus, and I have not even set my eyes on him. I had been trying so hard to be fine, but it was almost impossible.

My husband and I always promised each other to be there for one another and not let anything come to separate us. We were like best friends, but now we have turned into strangers.

Zoey always made sure she was there for me and kept me from thinking so much about it. I had also been stressing myself and hoping to get pregnant soon for Nicklaus, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

I have been on a diet and exercising properly just to see that it works, but one needs enough sex to get pregnant, and it seems Nicklaus isn't away from that. He had distanced himself, and when we had sex, it didn't look like we were doing it with passion anymore.

I walked on the treadmill as I looked around the whole city and enjoyed the sunlight. I was expecting Zoey to be back soon, and immediately, I heard the sound of a car driving into the compound. I felt a little excited.

“Zoey had arrived; thank God.” I raised my head, thinking it was her big SUV, but it turned out to be one of my father's.

I squinted my eyes and looked closer. “What is my father doing here?”

I watched my father and Sarah walk into the building. My father has not visited me since I got married.

Immediately, Irina walked up to me. “Ma'am, your family is here to see you.”

“Why are they here?” I asked, and I thought they never wanted anything to do with me. They made it clear to me at the hospital.

I really did not feel like going to see them. I felt the urge to tell Irina that I wasn't around, but where else could I be?

I didn't even bother to go freshen up because I wanted them to be over and done with whatever brought them here.

I walked from the rooftop and got into the sitting room, where they were both seated.

“Good day, Dad.” I walked up to him for a peck, and he took a step back from me.

My facial expression hardened, and I halted. I turned to Sarah. She walked up to me and gave me a peck on the cheeks while whispering in my ears, “He’s furious; just calm down and listen to what he has to say.”

"What brings you here, father? I wasn't expecting you.” I spoke calmly. I managed to smile to remove the awkwardness in the house.

“You are right, Elena; I came here to make some sense to you.”

From the tone of his voice, I knew it was about my marriage to Nicklaus, so I exhaled and adjusted my sitting position. I could feel the tension, and I got ready to listen to whatever he had to say.

“I will give you both some space, and I need to use the restroom,” Sarah said, standing up.

“Elena,” my father called.

"Yes, Father,” I replied gently.

“Nicklaus is threatening to pull away from collaborating with my company, and you know what that means; I don't need to explain it to you, nor did I come here for long talks.”

“Father,” I cut him.

“I'm not done speaking,” he said, and I kept mute.

“Whatever problem you have with your husband, you need to fix it as soon as possible by providing him with an heir. This family is not keeping the promise we made to them, and it's up to you.”

Immediately, tears rolled down my cheeks, and I quickly wiped them off.

“Father, you know that I am trying my best.”

“Your best is not enough, Elena. Produce an heir if you face the consequences,” he spoke.

At this point, I was getting annoyed, and my anger was rising. I stood up and spoke, “Father, all my life I did whatever you asked me to do just to please you.” I spoke, my voice raising, “I have tried everything to make this marriage work. It's not my fault I lost the baby; stop making it look like it was my fault,” I shouted, my voice cracking.

Tears began to roll down my cheeks, and I sobbed uncontrollably, “I have sacrificed my happiness all my life for the sake of that company. Your company, which I am not even an heir to, I don't even have a share in. I am fed up with everything. I deserve to be happy.” I shouted.

My father stood up and watched me speak without saying a single word. After a few moments, I turned around. “I'm out of here,” I said and ran upstairs.

I didn't want to see his face or hear whatever he had left to say.
