Chapter 178

Nicklaus’s POV:

It's been raining all night long. I lay in bed and tried to get enough rest, but I could not. I thought about everything that had happened and I blamed myself.

I have to speak with Elena immediately. I roll out of bed and change into something casual.

I stepped into my car, my bodyguards surrounding me, but I stopped them. “I want to be alone,” I said and zoomed off into the highway.

Aside from her father wanting to speak with her to come back and run his company because everything is falling apart, I miss Elena. I was ready to pay the price to have her back in my life.

I drove under the heavy rain and arrived at Anex’s penthouse. I rang the doorbell and waited for the door to be opened.

After a few seconds, the door was opened, and it was Elena. She was standing in the doorway.

“Nicklaus,” she muttered.

“Elena, can I speak to you?” I asked.

She walked out and stood in the doorway, “It's late. Everybody is asleep. I don't want you to wake them up. Are you okay?” She asked.

“Elena, I don't know if this is the right time to say this, but I am madly in love with you. I can't get over you, Elena. No matter how much I tried. I miss you, and I want you in my back forever.” I spoke as I walked close to her.

She looked at me, and I could feel the spark in her eyes. “But you are married to Sarah,” she said.

“I am ready to divorce Sarah. Please give me a chance to prove my love to you,” I said as I held her hands gently.

“I can't, Nicklaus. I can never be a second option,” she spoke.

“Elena, you have always been my option, even when you married me as your second option. I am losing my mind without you by my side,” I spoke.

“I can't, Nicklaus,” she responded.

“Why?” I asked, gently placing my hand on her cheeks, “Why can't you give me a chance?” I asked.

“You let everybody humiliate me. You didn't stand for me. You didn't fight for me,” she spoke.

“I am sorry about my actions, Elena. I was dumb and stupid. I was so carried away with eHealth and power that I didn't know what I was losing. You are my greatest achievement, Elena,” I said and leaned in.

“I want you in my life forever,” I whispered, and I gently brushed my lips against hers.

She didn't resist; her eyes were closed, and I leaned in to kiss her deeply. It was so intense that I held her firmly. I didn't want to let her go, but she pulled away after some time.

“I can't do this Nicklaus,” she whispered.

“Elena, please. I can't forget about you. Fate is always bringing us together.” I spoke up. She didn't say a word. She just stared at me.

I reached for her two hands, and I held them. “Elema I believe you. I believe that you are innocent of these allegations, and that is why I am ready to fight for you. I reopened the case and I have proof. I have proof to clear your name,” I explained.

Elena shook her head. “Of what use is it? It is of no use,” she said.

“The culprit will be caught and sent to jail in no time. I mean it. I want you back, please. I am ready to prove your innocence.”

Tears rolled down Elena's cheeks, and she wiped them. “You don't understand Nicklaus. It is late already. I don't need you to do anything for me. Just stay away from me. 5 years before I left for Oregon, I stayed in this house, waiting for you to show up, waiting for you to fight for me, but you didn't. You caused me pain,” she scribed out, her voice cracking.

Tears also streamed down my eyes. "Elena, I cannot justify my actions then, but I am ready to fight for what is right. I am ready to fight for you.”

“You got my sister pregnant,” she spoke up.

“It was all a lie. I never slept with Sarah. It was a setup.” I spoke.

“Stop lying; you have a daughter with her, Nicklaus,” she shouted.

I exhaled deeply and ruffled my hands through my hair. “I have to say this, but Amelia is not my daughter. Sarah lied.” I spoke.

Elena narrowed her eyes in confusion. “I wanted a child so badly that I fell for her tricks. Please, I need you,” she spoke.

“It's none of my business. You had your chance, Nicklaus. Now I have my own life to live,” she said, and I was about to open the door when I held her hands.

“Elena, it's fine if you don't want me back. I will only fight for what is right, but you are needed right now. Your father is on his sick bed, and he needs you. The company is falling apart. It is only you who can save it.”

Immediately, Elena removed her hands from my grip. “Do not fucking tell me that; he is not my father. He disowned me 5 years ago. He should deal with it,” she spoke.

“Elena. Please don't be so hard. Even if you won't take over the company, he needs to ask for your forgiveness,” I cried out.

“I don't need it. Now leave me alone, Nicklaus. Go away and never return,” Elena shouted.

“I won't go away; I am ready to stay out and wait for you,” I spoke.

“Suit yourself then,” she spoke and walked inside.
