Chapter 158

Nicklaus’s POV:

I sat on the sofa with my little daughter, Amelia, as I watched her play with her toys. She looked so adorable, and I smiled while watching her.

I had been waiting for Sarah's arrival for a few hours. I couldn't believe she would leave her little daughter alone and go on with her daily business.

I Sarah had been so distant with her daughter, Amelia, and she never paid attention to her. I couldn't help but wonder what sort of mother Sarah was.

She would go out partying and even spend weeks on a vacation. She will always leave Amelia in the hands of a nanny.

Chef Henry walked to me in the sitting room. “Mr. Nicklaus, dinner is ready,”

“Perfect, thank you, Henry,” I said and turned to Amelia, “common baby girl. Are you ready to eat dinner?” I asked.

“Yes, daddy. I love having you around,” she said, and I nodded my head and kissed her on the forehead.

“I will always be here for you. Never forget that,” I said.

“Alright, let's go eat something,” I said, holding her hand as we walked to the dining area. We had a peaceful and quiet dinner as I watched Amelia eat.

"Amelia, darling, why aren't you touching your food? Aren't you feeling hungry?” I asked.

“Daddy, I miss Mummy. I always go to bed alone without anybody reading me bedtime stories. Daddy, will you read me bedtime stories tonight?” she asked.

”Yes, darling. I will read you all of the bedtime stories tonight. I will try to always make time for you, but sometimes you need to know that Daddy has to travel for work; you would have come with me to Oregon if not for your school,” I explained.

"Okay, Daddy,”

“Now eat your meal. Daddy is here with you. I won't leave your side,” I said, and she smiled at me.

After having dinner, we were about to go upstairs when the front door was swung open. Sarah stepped in feeling nonchalant and unnecessarily happy.

Her eyes opened, and it landed on me. She froze at her spot with her eyes widened in disbelief. She opened her mouth to speak, but the words wouldn't leave her throat.

“Mummy!” Amelia shouted and rushed to wrap her little arms around Sarah's thighs, but she wasn't so pleased with her daughter.

I reached for Amelia and turned to her. “My darling, would you wait for Daddy in the room? I will be there in a few minutes to read your bedtime stories.

My eyes were fixed on her until she reached upstairs, then I turned to Sarah and asked, “Where have you been and how long have you been out?” I asked.

“You are back; when did you return?” She asked, laughing nervously.

“Answer the damn question, where were you?” I asked.

“I was with my mother,” she responded and walked out on me when I held her hand.

“I am not done talking to you. Why would you always neglect your daughter and do nothing but gossip with your time? I give you everything you need so that you can spend time with Amelia. Why is it difficult to be with your daughter?” I asked, my voice echoing in the room.

Sarah’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Do not speak to me in that manner, Nicklaus. Since you are the father of the year, why don't you spend time with your daughter? But you can go to Oregon and chase after Elena.” She shouted and clapped her hands, “Good job, father of the year.”

I was caught off guard by her words. “Where the hell did you get such information?” I asked.

“Do you think I wouldn't find out? You want after that trash.”

“Don't you dare talk about her like that,”

She was startled, and I could see her breath rising and falling. “Nicklaus, if I were you, I would mind my business and keep your nose out of my matter. Go spend time with your daughter, the father of the year.”

“I am not done talking to you, Sarah,” I spoke; I hate it when someone walks out on me.

I fixed my eyes on her as she climbed the stairs. I couldn't do anything or react.

I regret getting married to Sarah; that was the greatest mistake of my life, and I knew it. I knew I was taking away my happiness. I was blinded by wealth and power.

I would have just taken care of my daughter and forgotten about her because she had made me a complete mess.

Without saying a word, I climbed upstairs and went into Amelia’s room. To spend time with her. I decided to lay her in bed and read her bedtime stories.

“Good night, my little one, I love you,” I whispered. My voice was barely audible, and I kissed her on the forehead.

“Good night, Daddy,” she whispered in a sleepy voice. I didn't leave the room. I lay on the fluffy mat and placed a pillow underneath my head.

I thought about Elena, and I wondered what she would be doing right now.

I just wish she had given me more time, but she threw me out. The best thing to do is to move on and try to make myself happy. I thought to myself.

I wrapped myself around the soft duvet and closed my eyes, forcing myself to fall asleep.
