Elena’s POV:
I hurriedly walked out of the hotel room and banged the door in anger. Tears were forming in my eyes, and I was holding myself not to cry out loud.
I rushed into the restroom and tried to hold my tears back. “No, Elena, you are not going to cry.”
“You can’t do this; don’t cry.”
Did he do it purposely to get to me? Or was that how he truly was? I couldn't understand what was going on.
“How could he be so heartless? I don’t even understand how he still manages to do this. Why am I even getting angry?” I asked myself.
I sniffed repeatedly and tried to calm my breath. I shouldn’t be angry. It's his lifestyle, and if he did it to piss me off, I will not give him the satisfaction that he wants.
I shouldn't be getting angry or pissed at him. He is out of my life for good. Let him deal with his shit.
I walked out of the restroom and decided to take a stroll to clear my head. I walked around the building, enjoying the gentle breeze to clear my thoughts and calm my mind.
I didn't want to go back to the hotel because I would be going back to that apartment to prepare lunch for Nicklaus and his mistress.
As time went by, I glanced at my watch, and it was already 12 noon. I rolled my eyes and cursed under my breath.
“Damn it, not again,” I grumbled. “I have to face Nicklaus this time around. He hired me to humiliate me, but I won't give him the satisfaction. Even if it means me doing my job,” I spoke and walked back to the hotel.
I stood in front of the new building and got into the elevator. I reached the suite on the top floor and was about to knock on the door when Nelly walked up to me with a sly smile on her face.
“Well, well, well,” she said, crossing her arms on her chest. “Look who we have here. Looking for your prince charming again?”
“Could this get any worse?” I muttered under my breath.
“Well, your prince charming has left already. He had dumped your ass; where have you been all day? Looking for your love?” She chuckled lightly.
“What do you want? Can you just mind your damn business?”
“Anyways, my father has been looking for you all day; he wants to speak with you in his office. You should go see him right now.”
I quickly turned around and walked out to the hallway. I couldn't stand anybody's bullshit right now. Not Nelly or Nicklaus.
“I'm sure he dumped you and left shameless girl,” Nelly shouted.
I took in a deep breath. I was pushed to go back to her and give her a dirty slap but I ignored her.
I hasten my movement to the end of the hallway to Mr. Stone’s office.
Knock knock
“Come right in,” I heard my stone’s voice from inside his office. I exhaled deeply, swung the door open, and walked inside the office.
He was seated on his chair behind the desk, and his eyes were fixed on me as I walked in.
“Good day, Mr. Stone. I was told you wanted to have a word with me.” I said gently.
“Yes, please. Have a seat,” he said and gestured for me to sit down. I gently sat down, feeling a little nervous about what he had to say.
“Mr, stone. If you don't mind. I would like to speak first,” I said.
“Go ahead, Elenaa said.
I reached for my pocket and brought out the keys to Nicklaus's suit. “I am here to return the keys to Mr. Coleman’s suite. I cannot work for him anymore. I will understand if you fire me,” I said.
Mr. Stone smiled and nodded his head. “The married couple informed me about your presence earlier in the suite. Sorry, the hotel didn't inform you earlier. Mr. Nicklaus left the hotel last night. So you won't be working for him anymore,” he spoke.
What?
“He discussed with me to still keep your job. So there you have it. You have your regular job back,” he said, and my jaw dropped.
“You don't mean it, sir. Thank you so much, sir. I really appreciate it,” I spoke and giggled.
“It's fine, Elena. Mr. Coleman is a nice man; you can go back to your usual duties and do not let me down,” he spoke.
“I promise I won't let you down,” I said excitedly and stood up. I walked out of the door. I gently closed the door, resting on it, and I exhaled deeply.
It's a good thing I have my job back. I walked down happily feeling relieved and back to my usual life, but it struck me when I remembered Mr. Stone’s statement.
Why did Nicklaus leave so soon? I thought he was in with another mistress, but it turns out a couple had taken the suite.
I happily returned to the kitchen and was so excited to do my usual work.
After a few hours of work, it was already getting dark. Then I saw Sam.
“Sam,” I called.
"Yes, Elena,” he responded and walked up to me. “Are you ready to go home?”
“Yes, I am ready. Let me just grab my bag,” I said and walked to the locker.
“Thank you so much, Sam.” I said.
“You don't have to thank me, Elena,” he said, placing his hands on mine. “I want to protect you. I do not want what happened to you yesterday to repeat itself,”
I felt a little spark as he held my hands, but I quickly pulled away. My eyes fell on the rearview mirror when I saw a mysterious man standing afar and taking pictures of us.
“I think we are being stalked,” I said.
Nicklaus POV:Was she having a secret affair with Alex and looking for how to be free from me? Everything is so confusing right now. What in the world did Alex do for Elena that made her love him that much? If Elena had been with Alex ever since we were married, then I still have to do more investigations to know what exactly. I will hire good professionals who are good at their jobs and digging into every little detail. I remember when I held her hand yesterday and looked at her finger, there was no ring on it, which meant she didn't get married to him. She stayed alone with her son and Zoey, even though my investigators stated that Alex sometimes stops by the house here in Oregon.Maybe he always comes to see his son. But Alex is a multimillionaire. Why is Elena struggling and footing the bills for her son all by herself? Something is not just adding up with the recent investigations, but I am willing to let it go and forget that she ever existed. She treated me like trash, like
Sarah’s POV:I woke up very early in the morning. It's been a few days since Nicklaus travelled to Oregon, and I also got devastating news that Elena had been in Oregon. I had been so restless all night long, and I couldn't sleep peacefully. I stirred on the bed when I heard my child crying, “Penelope.” I called one of the maids. She hurriedly walked into the room. "Good morning, ma'am; you sent for me,”“Go take care of that child. I do not want to hear her cry this morning,”“Right away, ma'am,” she said and hurriedly walked out of the room.I buried my head in the pillow to block away the noise from her cries. It was beginning to get annoying. I couldn't help but wonder how women manage to nurse babies again.“I can't give birth again. Not with this kind of noise,” I yelled and stepped into the bathroom.I was so angry that Nicklaus left me for Elena. What if they reconnect over there? Would that be the end of me and this marriage?I wondered to myself, but I shook my head and tr
Nicklaus’s POV: I sat on the sofa with my little daughter, Amelia, as I watched her play with her toys. She looked so adorable, and I smiled while watching her. I had been waiting for Sarah's arrival for a few hours. I couldn't believe she would leave her little daughter alone and go on with her daily business. I Sarah had been so distant with her daughter, Amelia, and she never paid attention to her. I couldn't help but wonder what sort of mother Sarah was.She would go out partying and even spend weeks on a vacation. She will always leave Amelia in the hands of a nanny. Chef Henry walked to me in the sitting room. “Mr. Nicklaus, dinner is ready,”“Perfect, thank you, Henry,” I said and turned to Amelia, “common baby girl. Are you ready to eat dinner?” I asked.“Yes, daddy. I love having you around,” she said, and I nodded my head and kissed her on the forehead.“I will always be here for you. Never forget that,” I said. “Alright, let's go eat something,” I said, holding her ha
Elena’s POV:“Thank you so much. Dinner was delicious, but I should get going,” Sam said.“Uncle Sam, wouldn't you like to stay back with us so that we can watch animation together?” Wave said as he walked to Sam, “Uh…” Sam gave me a side look, and I shook my head. “Wave, I don't think that is a good idea tonight. Your school is on holiday, but you need to go to bed early,” he spoke gently. I walked up to wave and ruffled my hands through his hair. “He is right, son. You still have to go to bed early, even if you are on holiday; you can watch whatever you want to watch tomorrow. I promise.”“But I am not feeling sleepy, mummy.” “Don't you want to grow bigger and taller like Uncle Same someday?” I asked."Yes, Mummy, I want to be bigger and taller,” he said excitedly. “Then you have to get some rest, darling. Going to bed in time will help you grow bigger and stronger. I want to be like Uncle Sam and Uncle Nicklaus when I grow up,” he said.I gave Zoey and Sam an awkward look. I co
I stirred on my bed in my deep sleep, and when I perceived some awful smell, it wafted into my nostrils. I tried to brush it off, thinking it was nothing. turned to the other side of the bed and cuddled me up when the smell became pungent and sweat was beginning to gather on my forehead and the top of my lips as my body responded.I brushed off my forehead with my palm when my eyes were opened. My eyes widened when I saw the scary sight. smoke covering the room, I could barely see. My heart raced, and I quickly turned my head to the window when I saw fire coming from outside. The flames were so thick and scary. I quickly opened my door, filled with energy, and rushed to the hallway while I was coughing and panting. Everywhere was filled with smoke, and I couldn't see clearly. My breath was beginning to cease. I rushed to wake Wave up and covered him with a wet blanket. I held him in my hands and ran to the front door. Struggling with my sight, I pushed him out to the front foot, and
The paramedic and the ambulance tried their best to stabilise Elena as they drove to the hospital. Wave was also thoroughly checked, and they made sure that he was okay, but he wouldn't stop crying for his mother and aunty Zoey. After a while, Zoey coughed, and her eyes were slightly opened. “Elena?” she called. She looked around, calling for Elena. She felt relieved when she saw Elena lying beside her. With time, she was stabilised, and her pulse and heartbeat were back to normal. She looked over to see Wave tearing up, and she looked down at Elena lying on the stretcher as the rest of the paramedics tried to revive her.Her eyes became watery, and she stood up and wrapped her arms around him tightly. She gave him a gentle kiss on his hair. “Mummy is going to be alright; let's have faith,” she said, gently squeezing his hands. They both held Elena’s hands, and after a short while, they arrived at the hospital. They got down, and the paramedics rushed Elena into the hospital in a ha
Mr. Williams sat in the study after dinner as he tried to do some research and the live news channel was on.He felt lonely and alone. He sighed when he remembered how Elena used to run his company back in the day, and he took it for granted. He regrets his actions and he misses Elena dearly. He wished he stood by her five years ago. Maybe things wouldn't have been like this. Sarah had no idea about the company. The news showed a live house had been burnt down in Oregon just a few minutes ago. He watched it for a while, and he shook his head. “That is not good. It was clearly a planned work,” he decided to turn off the TV and focus on the world to avoid getting distracted. He looked at his desk to see that he had brought out the wrong document from the library. “Oh no, my bad, the wrong document. No, I have to find the right document in the library,” he signed.“I wish Sarah was hard-working and competent; she would have taken over me. Now I am too old and weak. Who would help run t
Sarah’s POV:After my mother hung up on me, I decided to call her back, but nobody was picking up. I called the house, and one of the maids answered the phone.“Where is my mother? What could have happened?” I wondered as my eyes darted around the room. I hope she wasn't caught. I thought to myself as I called my father’s mansion. “I want to speak to my mother right now,” I ordered. “Mr. Coleman, Mr. Williams just had a heart attack. He had been taken to the hospital,” the maid responded urgently. My eyes widened, and the phone dropped from my hands to the bed.My jaw dropped, and I didn't know what to say. I hurriedly grabbed my keys and stormed out of the house. I knew exactly the hospital that they would be, so I zoomed off. While on the way, I could not help but ask myself multiple questions. Why would my father have a heart attack? I had dinner with him, and he was doing just fine. What could be going on?My hands were trembling, and I was already feeling cold. I just hoped th
