I couldn’t understand if I was being selfish as I hesitated making the life changing promise, or if I was thinking instead of acting on my emotions.

The worst part was that as my gaze met Mathildas, I found desperation I hadn’t seen ever before. It felt as if whatever was happening behind our backs, it was far worse than I thought and this woman had already accepted her fate. A fate I didn’t want her to meet.

Squeezing her hands with all my might, I nodded. “If worse comes to happen, I promise to take in your child and raise him as my own. I promise.”

Although the words felt heavy on my tongue, they gave her some sort of relief and Mathilda visibly relaxed, muttering something under her breath.
