I fixed the strap of my red dress over my shoulder and inspected my reflection in the mirror. Everything was in place. My red gown hugged my upper body and flowed down my legs.
My bare pale arms, void of any visible scars, remained on display like my shoulders and a small part of my cleavage.
My gaze rose to my face. I had gone with a minimal makeup look but had opted for painting my lips red.
But even with all the makeup on, the exhaustion still marked my features.
I didnât even feel like getting out of my bed today. But I had to.
My whole family was invited to the Eastcairn Citadelâthe palace, where a return party for the Alpha King Tyson was held. He was missing for the past 2 years and had just returned home so the whole kingdom was celebrating it tonight.
Like the Kingdom of East, I didnât feel happy to be attending this event though.
The thought of facing the people scared me.
And the mere thought of crossing paths with the Lycan Alpha King made my heart stop with dread. He was my mortal enemy who could do anything in this world to make me suffer. He would love to watch me squirm and cry and beg with his dark eyes. His perfect thick lips would stretch into one of those beautiful smiles that I could never get out of my mind if he ever saw me broken.
Sighing, I shook my head.
Thinking about him was not an option right now. I had to be prepared to avoid him at any cost.
What choice did I have anyway?
Refusing to attend the event would anger my father. That was something I couldnât afford to do.As if on cue, my fatherâs heavy footsteps echoed in my ears. I stiffened and instantly stepped away from the mirror.
The door to the room was slammed open. My gaze lowered to the floor.
He stalked toward me, causing my body to start trembling already. I clasped my hands in front of my stomach and swallowed the fear that threatened to consume me.
My father was the Alpha of one of the most giant packs in our Kingdom. Our pack was named Storm Riders Pack because our pack had remained stoic in the face of all threats for hundreds of years. We had protected East, fought, and died for our Kingdom. Now, my father held a strong position in the Kingâs council as the General of his Army of wolvesâŠ
But that didnât change his violent nature. It fueled the desire in him to hurt others more.
My thoughts came to an abrupt halt when my fatherâs hand rose in the air and the back of it struck me across my cheek.
The impact caused my ears to ring. My head turned to the right. Something wet trailed down my cheek.
I glanced at my fatherâs signet ring and found my blood trailing down it. I gulped and straightened up. He didnât like weakness. I must get back in position and get ready to be hit again right after he was done delivering each blow.
â I heard you refused to accompany Daniel to the woods. â He spoke in his deep voice that sent chills down my spine.
â HeâI told him I should ask for yourâyour permission first. â I lied through my teeth.
It earned me another harsh backhanded slap that left my cheek bleeding.
â When he tells you to do something, you must do it. â He hissed. â He is Alpha Garrettâs son. Donât you know how important our alliance with him is? Donât you care that he might break his engagement with you? â
How was I supposed to tell him that my fiance wanted me to accompany him to the woods so he could bend me against one of the trees and fuck me?
But maybe, Dad would ask me to do it because Daniel was the man he chose for me.
â I understand. â I swallowed the words. â I will be careful next time, Father. â
â You be careful. â He let out. â or your sister will suddenly become a better match for Daniel. â
â No. No, Dad. I will be better. I will never refuse him again. â I picked my head instantly.
â This is your last chance, Amelia Kingsley. You better get your act straight. â He hissed as his eyes flashed green.
Shooting me a last hateful glare, he turned to the door and slowly walked out of it. My breath remained stuck in my throat until his footsteps sounded around me.
When I couldnât hear him anymore, I let out a huge breath and slumped on my bed. My hands curled around the edge of the mattress as I closed my eyes.
Daniel would be at the event today. And I had no doubt he would try to take me to some corner again. I had been denying his requests as politely as possible, but it still angered him every time. Now, he was complaining to Dad and I had no choice but to do as he wanted or elseâŠ
Dad would sell my little sister Adelia to Daniel. I couldnât bear that. From the time she was born, I had done everything in my power to protect her from the evil that was my father. This duty had left me exhausted and sleepless over the years but I never fell short.
Ultimately, Dad had come to know this as my one true weakness. He would always threaten to hurt Adeliaâinnocent and kind Adelia when his beatings wouldnât work.
But, this had to end soon. I couldnât let this go on for much longer. Once I had a chance, an opening where my father was missing from our home for even one night, I would make Adelia escape so she could find a life for herself out of this shithole. Whatever happened after that wouldnât affect me as long as she was safe and happy somewhere in the world. Until then, I had to keep my mouth shut and endure everything.
Sighing, I got up and walked to the dressing table. Grabbing some tissues from the box, I wiped my cheek which had blood over it.
As expected, the wound had healed. My skin was left smooth. No one could ever know that I was hit and bled. Like they never knew over the years about all the wounds I had suffered, all the nights I had cried in pain.
I couldnât tell if healing was a blessing or a curse anymore. People couldnât see my emotional wounds, and this fast healing had kept them from seeing the physical injuries too.
â Amy. â The soft voice whispered from the doorway.
I dropped the bloody tissue on the dressing table and turned around to face Adelia who was standing at some distance.
She looked beautiful in her golden gown. Her similar green eyes stared back at me. The worry was not hidden.
â Did DadâŠhit you again? â She grabbed the doorframe as her body trembled slightly.
â Ady. â I sighed, walking to her.â Did he say he will hurt me if you donât listen? â Her guilty gaze dropped to the floor.
â No, Ady. He just asked me to get ready for the event. â I placed my hand on her arm and assured her.
â Whatever he says, donât do it. I am a woman now. I can look after myself. You donât need to make sacrifices for me. â She mumbled.
â You just turned eighteen last month. â I chuckled, shaking my head.
â That makes me a grown woman. â She pouted.
â You act like a child though. I donât think anything will change that. â I shrugged my shoulders.
She picked up her head and shot me a nasty glare. I smiled at her, and she immediately grinned back.
No matter how dark the rest of the world was, I had Ady to lighten it up for me. She was my sole support. The only thing which kept me going when I wanted to end myself.
â Are you sure you can handle this? â She spoke.
â Handle what? â I wondered.
â Meeting the King, I mean. Alpha King Tyson. â She whispered in a scared voice.
My heart skipped a beat. The simple mention of his name could make my body shudder. My heart knew no bounds when it came to him.
â Itâs fine. â I gulped, curling my hands into fists.
â Do you think he is still the same? â Ady wrapped her arms around her chest.
â Letâs not talk about it, Ady. â I uttered.
â Are you still scared of him? â
Still scared would be the wrong term. I was not scared of him before. But right now, I was so terrified that my soul trembled at the thought of catching his eye. He would kill me for sure, and he would take pleasure in that.
â Do you think he hurts other girlsâŠlike he hurt you? â Ady added when I didnât answer.
â Ady! â I hissed, as my eyes widened. â what did we talk about before? â
â That we will never mention him ever again. â She muttered.
â Thatâs right. We will never mention Tyson ever again. â I whispered.
Maybe not mentioning his name would make him disappear.
If only it was possible.
â Letâs go, Amy. Dad must be waiting. â Adelia whispered and grabbed my hand to drag me downstairs.
My feet grew heavy with each step forward. There was only one thing I could pray for right now.

AMELIA ...One and a Half Month Later⊠Nora told me she would wait for any word from Avery. I was with her on this. Once she looked for Nora, we would do everything to stop Dustin from sending her to the South. He couldnât force his sister. She was not a pushover and she was not alone. But, our wait remained just that. Avery never called for help. She didnât look for Tyson or Striker or any of us. After a week, she silently disappeared. We would have never expected her to just go like this, without a word, or without putting up a fight, or without any farewell One day I woke up and Tyson simply told me he got the news from North. Avery was already in the South. That didnât make sense to me or Nora who was still there with me. Now another month passed after Averyâs sudden disappearance. We waited for a message from her, but the gates of the South were closed, and the magic shield was back. No one could go inside and no one came out. In the first few days, Tyson and Striker threw
AMELIA Things worked out. I didnât expect them to, but they did. That was the only thought in my mind as I lay in Tysonâs arms, wrapped up in a blanket after several intense rounds of sex. His fingers traced imaginary shapes on my lower back and I enjoyed the feel of his skin over mine, lazy and gentle. At that moment, I decided I should tell him what I didnât before, â I was not the only one there. â â Hmm? â He turned to me and pulled me closer to his body. I sighed, inhaling my lingering scent on his neck. I had made peace with the fact that I might never get to inhale his true scent. â Levian. â I whispered and sensed his shoulder tensing under my cheek, â He was there last night. He saved me and Ryder. I donât know why but heâŠhelped us. If it was not for him, maybe, I wouldnât have made it. Aleister was sending weird shadow monsters and our people to kill me, Tyson. And when these creatures noticed RyderâŠthey wanted to hurt him to get to me. â His hand paused. I waited for
TYSON She must be awake. I concluded and decided to go to her. However, her scent drew close and filled my senses, freezing me on my spot. Was she going to be mad because I made a wrong decision and left her to fight on her own? â Tyson. â Her sweet voice fell on my ears, drawing my attention to the door behind me. She stood in the doorway, dressed in a plain light green dress that fell to her ankles. There was no sign of sickness on her face, but a wide smile as she walked to me on hurried steps. â Lia. â My heart missed a beat. She stopped in front of me and without caring about the other three people in the room, cupped my cheek in her warm palm. â Did we manage to get rid of the threat? â We. My shoulders loosened. We were still âweâ. I gripped her hand and sat her down to my side. Immediately, she pressed herself to me as if she couldnât bear to be away. Her injuries had healed, leaving her pale skin smooth and soft. â You played a big role in this, Amelia. â Striker st
TYSONI should have expected something to be wrong. Nothing ever went smoothly for me. Lia was unconscious when I arrived at the Eastcairn Citadel. Surprisingly, I only felt her pain when I was inside the walls. From the looks of it, she was not in a severe condition. She just exerted all her energy and fell unconscious. By the time I went to her, Nora and the servants had already transferred her body to her room. Even a healer was done checking up on her and told Nora that she was fine. Now, she slept in her room peacefully. The guests were sent home safely and the castle was cleaned. In a short while, everything looked as new as ever. But, it didnât put my mind at ease. My wolf was restless, and after a long time, I could feel it. We had marked each other but hadnât mated and he wouldnât settle until the deed was done.â She had Ryder in her arms when I came. Even in that state, no one could take him away from her. She protected him until I came back. â Nora sighed, recalling t
TYSON â Where do you think Dustin disappeared to? â I shook my head and leaned back. Dark Fog extinguished the eternal fire and left me in the dark again. I couldnât bother to look at Striker, but I knew he was seeing the same thing as me. â He must be hiding in the corner somewhere. â Striker snickered, trying to lighten the chilly atmosphere. The bodies that came at us this time were aggressive and fought back. I had a hard time knocking them when I found multiple dead bodies lunging at me, jumping at my back, reaching for my throat, my eyes, my nose and everywhere they could reach. I was swarmed with the bones that clung to me and pushed me to my knees with their weight. That was an odd experience, getting buried under the dead people. I sucked in a few labored breaths. The putrid smell of death filled me, making me dizzy and suffocated. My hands landed on the ground. I could feel the grass clinging to my skin as if it were drawn to me. Gritting my teeth, I let the pent-up
TYSONI felt uneasy. It was not because of Aleister but because my guts told me I shouldnât have left Amelia alone. But, I couldnât go to her now. We were already so far. The King of the South had half my Kingdom under his control, and Striker's fire was the only thing that could cut through the veil of Darkness that seemed to be the root of mind control. Nora, Dustin, and I followed him as he let his fire burn through the ground. The quarreling, compelled people started to break out of their daze and came to their senses as soon as they saw the light. We were far from the castle now, and all I heard was silence behind the walls. It was almost like there was a barrier around Eastcairn Citadel that didnât let any noise leave the place.â I shouldnât have listened to you, Dustin. â I scoffed as we came to a halt in the open field.â He knows something we donât. Again. Thatâs why he insists on walking this way. â Nora scoffed. She was equally uneasy because she had to leave a sleeping R
AMELIAMy lungs ached as the hands tightened around my throat. I tried to breathe but all I could manage was a broken gasp. Why? The question echoed in my head. Why did I have to die? Why was he trying to kill me?â Your existence is meaningless. You are not needed. â He answered as if he could hear everything in my head.I am neededâI wanted to shout. My eyes bulged as I failed to breathe. I tried to claw my way out but my arms were pinned. My necklace was torn from my neck. My earrings went next. They tore my dress and ripped my hair. I was too desperate for oxygen to feel pain. Silently, I wondered if Tyson could feel what I was feeling. I wished he couldnât. I didnât want him to be hurt because of me. â See for yourself how insignificant you are. â His voice whispered in my head. And I saw what he wanted to show me. I saw Mom, and Dad, and Adelia. They were happy without meâHappy and Alive. I saw Avery and Tyson and the rest of their friends, their familyâThey were complete wit
AMELIAMy neck burned and energy swarmed through my limbs. Ignoring the drilling pain inside my head, I pushed myself to my feet.Tyson rose with me, his hands gripping my arms protectively.â Lia⊠ââ Go⊠ââ HaveâŠâTysonâs lips were moving. He was saying something to me but the occasional ringing in my ears didnât let me catch onto whatever he was trying to tell me.His eyes were narrowed, his hold tight over my arms.It was like my head was underwater, or something was trying to keep my head under. The pain grew, and so did the burning in my neck. The little energy I had was shared through the mate mark, and it made it harder for the King of the South to get inside my head.I shook my head, trying to break free but it only made me realize how hard it was to move my neck. I was stiff like a board. My mind was not the only thing on the verge of succumbing to the power striking my skull.Suddenly, a huge line of fire swished beside me, cutting through the dark fog.
