Chapter 1

North Dakota, 2009 Brown leaves covered the ground from past years. The leaves on the trees were green as spring turned into summer. Lost once again he wandered in the woods. His uncle told him not to wander far in fear this would happen. Again. Caleb tried to remember how long he had been walking. He had been thinking of his parents again and lost track of time, and he wasn’t watching where he was going either. He was thinking about the accident that claimed both his mother and his father’s lives. He remembered everything that happened that night and the last words they said to him. It was only two weeks into the summer and his parents thought he was hanging out with the wrong kind of people. They were afraid that he was going to get in trouble or get hurt. They had a fight and his father told him, “We are sending you to stay with your uncle for a few months. You need to get out of the city and get some fresh air. We know you don’t want to go but it will do you some good.” They w

Chapter 2

Caleb sat at the table and ate his sandwich. His mind wandered to the girls he saw in the woods. They were so beautiful, especially the dark-haired girl. He couldn’t stop thinking of her. That long, wavy, dark brown hair, that fell down to her lower back, the paleness of her skin. And the swell of her breasts against the blue dress which complemented her in so many ways. “Where were you at?” Caleb jumped. “Hey Drew. Didn’t hear you come in.” Drew laughed “Man, you looked like you were day dreaming a little there.” “A little bit. Got lost again and I guess I was deprived of food too long and started seeing beautiful girls.” “Five minutes of not eating is depriving you of food, you eat like a horse.” Caleb just laughed. “Speaking of getting lost,” Drew threw something at Caleb. “What is this?” Caleb asked. “It’s a compass. When you decide to take another hike in the woods, keep an eye on the needle and it will tell you which way you are going. When you decide to come b

Chapter 3

Abigail ran as fast as she could through the woods, away from the house and away from her sisters. She loved them very much but she was tired of being weighed down by them. She felt bad for feeling that way about them, it wasn’t their fault. But she couldn’t help the way she felt. It was past time to be alone for a while. She thought about going back to the house they have in Scotland, or maybe Ireland. She only brought a small duffle bag with a few clothes. She didn’t have to bring much because all of their houses had clothes and everything they needed. All she needed was her passport, ID, and some cash, all which she had in her purse. She changed her clothes before she left, she didn’t want to attract any unnecessary attention. She had changed her shirt and left on her jeans and put on a dark blue sweater. She thought about when they had been changed, it was the 16th century. She could remember that fateful night so clearly, she had gone to take a walk and of course that was a bad

Chapter 4

“Get up!!!” Drew barged into Caleb’s room, “Man you have been asleep for over an hour.” Mom said not to wake him but Drew wasn’t going to let Caleb miss dinner. Caleb didn’t even open his eyes “Shut up and go the hell away.” “Okay then” and with that Drew sat on Caleb’s bed and right on top of him. Caleb groaned and tried to get up but Drew was too heavy. “Get your ass off of me and I might be able to get up” he told Drew. Drew just laughed but got off his cousin. He didn’t need to sleep so late anyway, he might miss dinner. Caleb sat up and punched his cousin in the arm, Drew laughed again and stood up, “What is so important that you had to come in here, sit on me and wake me up?” Caleb asked him. Drew gave him a lopsided grin “Dinner.” “I’m up,” he said “I’ll be downstairs in a minute, I just need to wash up.” As Drew left the room and went downstairs Caleb thought about the dream that he was having. It was about the girls that he seen in the woods, he had wondered who th

Chapter 5

Alaina woke up and stared at the beige wall that made up her room, she got up and walked over to her window. She had dreamed for the first time in a very long time. She was thinking about the boy, that face and those sorrow filled eyes. She had saved him because she felt sorry for him, now she couldn’t stop thinking about him. Something about his eyes, she thought. She decided sitting here wasn’t going to help get him off her mind. So she decided to go take a run. She loved to run, it helped clear her mind. She passed by the library on her way out and noticed that Arianna was sleeping in the chair. She looked so peaceful she didn’t want to wake her up. She wrote her a note to tell her that she would be back soon and not to worry. She stepped out onto the porch and looked out at the woods.

Chapter 6

Scotland 2020 It was another one of those days where all it did was rain. The clouds hung low and dark and promised nothing other than more rain, maybe even a little bit of snow. She would like some snow, Arianna thought to herself. It would be a nice change to the rain. She stared out of her bedroom window, for miles and miles all there was to see was trees and hills. And rain. Frustrated she spun out of her room and down the stairs. She could hear the tv on in the living room. Alaina had to be just as bored as she was. Maybe enough to leave and find another place to live for a while, she was ready to go back to the states. She loved living there and the only reason she left was because Alaina came back from a run one day and was upset saying they needed to leave. She hadn’t tried to argue with her because ever since their older sister had left them there, it just didn’t seem the same. Truth to be told she had been ready to leave as well, she just didn’t want to say anything. A

Chapter 7

“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Caleb, happy birthday to you!”  His family came into the room with a very large and very unnecessary cake. Caleb sat in the living room trying to catch up on the work the chief of staff had given him for the conference he was going to in Los Angeles.  He was a third-year resident at the community’s hospital. He had worked his ass off in college to finish early so he could apply to med school at Yale. And it paid off. He would only be a second year now if he hadn’t. Going to the conference along with him was one other resident and two attendings and they will be gone for a week. This

Chapter 8

Alaina was looking out of the hotel window, they have been in New York for only a few days. Neither one of them had spoken or even been out of the room. She was thinking about everything that happened, she almost of understood what Abigail had done. Almost. It was at that point of time that was her favorite time of the day, when the sun was barely in the sky. Pinks, reds, and oranges colored the sky and the clouds. It was at this time when she could think most clearly. She knows that her sister didn’t leave with the intention to be with someone else. And if that had been the case, she would have told them. Perhaps they were too harsh with her. No, over a decade goes by without so much as a phone call or text message. She told herself. And the whole time she has been with him. She moved away from the window and paced back and forth. She might not have intended it, but she could’ve at least made some kind of contact with them the past few years. It’s true that time moves more slowly fo

Chapter 9

The next morning, they went out to find a realtor and look for a house. To their disappointment, they didn’t find anything that would suit them. After a few weeks of house hunting, they finally found a house on the beach near Deer Creek Beach. Which was also in the state park. It was perfect for them, although they couldn’t move in right away, they had to wait for the current owners to move out. Finally, after two weeks they got the call that the owners were moved and they could come pick up the keys and start moving in. Leaving the realtors office, keys in hand, they couldn’t be happier. Now they had to go buy furniture to fill their new house, and shopping just made them even happier. After making arrangements to have everything delivered and set up for them, they went back to the hotel to get their stuff and check out. Before they left Santa Monica, they decided to celebrate by going surfing. They had been so busy trying to find a house they hadn’t had the chance to hit the wate
