“Are you okay?” Asked Wesley, looking worriedly at Brooklyn who sat dazed beside the window.

“Yeah but how long will we stay here? When are your grandparents returning home?” Asked a tired Brooklyn. Yesterday upon reaching Wesley’s grandparents' house, they realized that his grandparents had gone to the Bahamas on a vacation. Brooklyn was worried and lost, not knowing where to go next. Wesley called his grandma, Jane Ashburn, and told her everything. She asked them to stay at her best friend’s house for a few days.

Wesley’s granny’s best friend, Sarah Grantville lived three houses away. Upon hearing about Brooklyn, she came to take her and the babies to her house. She was a friendly old lady with twinkling blue eyes who introduced herself and insisted that they stay at her house till his granny Jane re

A gasp escaped Brooklyn’s mouth as she clutched at her heart with shock. So he knew that she was here but how? Did granny Sarah give her away? However, that question was soon answered since both granny Sarah and her husband were just as perplexed as she was.“How did you know that Brooklyn is here?” Asked a perplexed granny Sarah. Nikolas laughed and stood up. How could he miss her? The moment he had stopped his car farther down the street, he had seen her peering at him from a window, at a little distance from where he was. He had patiently waited for her to make a move. He had been so happy when she at last did!“She can’t hide behind a curtain for long. I saw her fighting with that assistant of hers, Wesley Mitchell. Where is he by the way? He needs to be punished,” said Nikolas.

Brooklyn’s heart started thundering in her chest, ready to jump out of its ribcage. Why was he coming towards her when he should be going to the other side of the bed to sleep? “Sleep there, not with me,” said Brooklyn, seeing him approach her.“If I sleep, I’ll sleep beside you. What if I crush my babies in the middle of the night?” Asked Nikolas a little worriedly.“You won’t,” assured Brooklyn but Nikolas was adamant and lay down right beside her, pulling out a spare pillow for himself.“I’m sleeping here. Tomorrow we’ll go home. I’ll ask Kathy to get cribs for the twins,” said Nikolas, breathing into her neck. Brooklyn shifted as much as possible to make space for him on the king-sized bed. His hot breath on her neck

Brooklyn’s breath got stuck in her throat as he approached her with an amused look on his face. Her eyes widened with apprehension even thinking of what he might be up to in front of the twins. “Nikolas, Bry and Nik are watching, please,” she whispered breathlessly. Nikolas chuckled and walked past her over to the drinks counter, pouring himself some minty drink. Brooklyn’s jaws dropped with astonishment. What was he up to? Was he kissing her or not?“What? I’ll have to settle with this at the moment. I don’t want you running for the hills leaving those two with me. I can’t handle them at all,” he chuckled. Brooklyn smiled and looked away, but was she really relieved? It would be a lie to say that she didn’t want to be kissed by Nikolas!“I’m glad that good sense finally prevail

“So, what about your job there in LA? Have you resigned?” Asked Nikolas, as he waited for her to finish her dinner.“Not yet, I’m on extended maternity leave. I hadn’t taken a day off work since I joined,” said Brooklyn. “I was also pursuing my studies simultaneously since the company was sponsoring my education,” she informed him.“I want you to email them your resignation as henceforth I’ll be taking care of you as well as your education,” stated Nikolas like an order. “This isn’t up for argument,” he added when she opened her mouth to speak.“Okay, I’ll email them my resignation,” said Brooklyn, feeling a little down. She didn’t want to be dependent upon Nikolas at all. “But I don&rs

Nikolas freed his hand from her hold. “Just don’t touch me if you want me to stay away from you,” he said gruffly, walking around to his side of the bed and lying down, with his back towards her. Brooklyn gaped at him, taken aback by his sudden outburst. She went towards her side and lay down, wide awake, listening to his angry breathing. She had no idea when she fell asleep but when she woke up, she found Sally by her bedside. “The twins need a feed, Brooklyn,” she said, gently. Brooklyn got up and noted that it was the wee hours of the morning, a few minutes still left for sunrise. Nikolas’s side was empty which only meant that he was already awake. “Sir wasn’t there when I came in,” said Sally, leading her out of the room towards the nursery. Brooklyn glanced towards Nikolas’s study room to see that the lights were on. So was he spending

Brooklyn tried hard to accept the fact that Nikolas might be with a woman and enjoying himself while she was unnecessarily worrying about him. He had changed! As far as she remembered, he didn’t like the company of any other woman. So was he having a physical relationship with someone just because she had denied him? So was this just a physical attraction between them? Maybe he didn’t love her the way she did. Maybe his definition of love was different from her own!As the minutes ticked by Brooklyn started boiling with jealousy and anger. How could he have a fling and yet force her to live with him in the same room, on the same bed? She would have shifted to her old room if it hadn’t been for the twins.Feeling hurt and unwanted, she lay down on her side of the bed and tried hard to sleep but even after fifteen minutes, she couldn

Nikolas frowned upon hearing her outburst. “I have no idea who you’re talking about. If you want to sleep with me, tell me so. I’ll gladly oblige,” he said, his face softening a little.“No, I have no wish to sleep with you. I’m sure you have other women to jump at the idea. I’m not one of them,” said Brooklyn, her eyes flashing with anger. A distressed Sally emerged from her room after hearing voices in the nursery. She paled considerably seeing Nikolas right inside the nursery.“Brooklyn, I insist that you go back to your room. I’m here with the twins,” said Sally to please Nikolas.“Yes, and if you refuse, I’m afraid that I would have to carry you there myself,” threatened Nikolas. Brooklyn’s eyes widened a

After having waited for hours, Brooklyn was excited to hear Nikolas’s voice downstairs, talking to Kathy. ‘He’s here, he’s here,’ her heart sang with glee. She sat in the nursery, feeding the twins and waiting impatiently for him to come upstairs. What was taking him so long? After five minutes, Nikolas peered inside the nursery, looking for her. The moment his eyes connected to hers, he flashed a dazzling smile at her. At that moment, everything ceased to exist around them and a look full of promises passed between them. He came closer and leaned in to plant a small kiss on her lips. Ellie left the room to give them some privacy.“Are you happy to see me home early?” he asked, pulling a chair to sit beside her.“Yes, so, did you throw your clients out and

Fifteen minutes later, Brooklyn, helped by the two attendants, walked down towards the wedding arch created on the other side of the koi pond. Kathy and Ellie had got the twins ready in their tux rompers and pushed their strollers, following Brooklyn to the wedding venue. Brooklyn gasped seeing the huge crowd waiting to witness the wedding. She smiled at them as she knew most of them. They were all Nikolas’s employees around the estate and office. Her eyes searched for Brandon. She had heard him a little while ago. Had he not arrived yet?“Hey, Brooks! Looking for me? I’m right here to walk you down the aisle. I’m older to you after all!” said Brandon as he came up behind her, looking dashing in a dark charcoal tuxedo. Brooklyn’s face brightened up with a dazzling smile.“Only by 2 minutes, Brand. So no wedding night for us, then,” she reminded him.“Still, we’ll make the most of it,” he said, staring deeply into her eyes with a promise of lots of car*al pleasure for later. The thought of it made her heart skip a beat. She couldn’t believe that by tonight she’d be a married woman, she’d be Nikolas’s wife. She hadn’t thought the day would come so soon. The next morning Brooklyn woke up remembering that she needed to take the twins for their vaccination. Nikolas quickly took an appointment at the nearest health center. It was a busy morning as they rushed to get the twins ready to go. A nervous Nikolas helped calm down Nikson who went red, howling with pain after the shot. Brooklyn calmed Brycen down somehow. It was a harrowing first-time experience for them. By the time they returned home, both were haggard and exhausted. Nikolas went to work after lunch while Brooklyn tended to the twins.
