Chapter 21

By the looks of it, Blake really was being strictly controlled.

He lit the cigarette and eagerly inhaled the smoke. Then, he turned to look at Jennifer. "Have you found anything about the matter I asked you to look into?"

"Yes. We found lots of evidence on the Young brothers' deeds."

"Great! Nigel, was it? If I remember correctly, their company is trying to establish a partnership with us on an important project. Tell Joe to direct it all to me!"

"Mr. Chapman has already given orders, and he has also arranged the best timing to distribute the information we have. In a day or two, the Young brothers will face misfortune one after the other!"

"Then add more fuel to the fire. They need to feel the heat before they can learn their lesson!" Blake didn't bother to hide the vicious look on his face. He also crushed the half-burnt cigarette he was holding in his hand.

"I'll leave this matter to you. I'll treat you guys to a meal after I get discharged. Come on, let's go."

With that, Blake turned around and began walking back. But before he could take a step, he suddenly remembered that there was something important he hadn't asked of the person behind him. "By the way…"

"Yes, Mr. Wagner?"

"Do you have gum in your purse?"

"What?"

"So you don't?"

"I didn't say that. Here, Mr. Wagner."

After putting the rest of the gum back into her purse, Jennifer was even more convinced that her guess was right. Blake could have just given her the instructions on WhatsApp, but he had insisted that she come over instead. He was probably itching to smoke.

"Hurry up. Nate will be back anytime soon."

Jennifer felt like she was nothing more than a tool to him. She thought, "Does he even have a conscience? Was his weak appearance something he made up to fool Nathan?"

I was quite considerate. After Blake put on an act, allowing Jennifer to help him back to the ward and cover up their tracks, I finally walked leisurely back to the ward. I was carrying takeaway food while sipping bubble tea from a cup.

After setting the taco on the table, I handed Jennifer a cup of bubble tea.

"Thank you, Mr. Shaw."

"Just call me Nathan."

"Where's mine?" Blake asked, his expression instantly shifted when he saw us getting along. He had a sullen look on his face as he stared at the bubble tea in Jennifer's hand.

"You're too old for fancy stuff like that, aren't you?" I shot back.

"You—" When Blake heard that, he didn't know what to say in response.

Jennifer didn't dare make a sound. Holding the bubble tea in her hands, she took a huge sip and stepped aside to watch us. She was looking forward to my next words.

"I'm just a kid to you, anyway!" With that, I glanced indifferently at Blake.

"Pfft… Ahem… Sorry… I have something to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."

As expected, my words did not disappoint. My retorts were on point, and Jennifer had never seen Blake looking so stunned before. It was quite an amusing sight.

"Ahem, forget it. I'm fine without bubble tea. Anyway, my taco is probably getting soggy." With that, Blake glanced at me as I leisurely sipped on my bubble tea.

After swallowing the bubble tea in my mouth, I took another sip before setting my cup down to take the taco out of its packaging.

"Hey!" I was fiddling with the packaging, so I didn't manage to keep an eye on my bubble tea. Blake quickly grabbed my cup.

"Don't drink that—" I stopped speaking halfway, but I continued in my mind, "I drank that! Ugh, what a jerk! Damn it!"

"This really is the sort of stuff little kids love. It's so sweet!" Blake grinned wryly, exposing his teeth. I was furious at the sight.

"Don't drink it if you don't like it!"

"Come on, don't be so stingy. I just took a few sips of your bubble tea. Why are you so mad about that?"

"You can't eat anything you want, not in your condition!"

"Fine, just calm down. I just wanted to try some when I saw you drinking it. Also, my taco is really going to turn soggy if I don't eat it soon!"

Blake was talking in that cooing tone again, and it irritated me greatly. And now he wanted to eat his taco? I didn't want him to have his way at all.

Still, I wasn't the sort who couldn't tell right from wrong. I was furious but also aware that Blake had always been quite nice to me. In the end, I reluctantly began feeding Blake the taco.
