Cassandra

As soon as I entered the party hall, I noticed all the eyes stayed on me. My Ex ex-packmates were stunned to see me after five years. The hall filled with murmurs.

"Is she alive? I thought she was dead. Last time she was seen begging in the rogue community.”

“Has she trapped any billionaire? No wonder she is living a good life.”

“She was a killer once, has she forgotten that."

The mixed reaction from the crowd, many things reminded me of my dark past but I didn't care about it. Only I cared about a smiling face that had been looking at me for a while.

I approached Asthon and hugged him.

"Congratulate Alpha Ashton, for being an Alpha of the Crescent moon pack," I said and his lips widened in a broad smile.

"Thank you, Cassy." He held my hand. As soon as he was announced Alpha, he appeared more mature.

"You are looking beautiful." He praised me again. I offered a smile in reply. But my smile didn't last long when I heard a familiar voice from behind. It sent shivers down my spine. I gripped the flare of my gown.

"Congratulations Alpha Ashton. I hope we continue our cooperation in future."

My body stiffened at that hoarse voice, each cell and every hair strand knew whom that voice belonged to.

"If I am not late, the ceremony is yet to start..."

His voice stuck in the middle when Brutus's gaze shifted over me.

He froze there for a moment. His face tensed. His eyes glared at me from head to toe. As if he was convincing himself that I am real.

Seeing him gave me a stark reminder of the deep pain that I had buried long ago. All wounds freshen up again to see him here.

"Alpha king Brutus, Ceremony is yet to happen." Asthon realised the situation and intervened. But Brutus did not flinch. His eyes were not ready to leave me.

"Wow, who is here? Cassandra? We all thought you were dead." Evelyn approached and held his elbow with that cunning smile on her face.

"Some people tried their best to kill me, but unfortunately they failed." I taunted while looking into Brutus’s eyes as if I was challenging him.

Brutus's face turned bitter. He gritted his teeth and furrowed his brows.

I was not someone who delved into the past but I would not forget who tried to kill me and framed me. I was the one who believed in karma but I won’t let them turn me down as they want.

Brutus speechlessly stood there, he looked traumatised to see me alive. One thing I noticed was Brutus' face became tired and dull, the Brutus I knew back was energetic. He didn’t seem as happy as he used to when he was with me.

"What are you trying to say?" Evelyn frowned. Her brows arched.

Brutus grabbed Evlyn's shoulder and pulled her close. His hands clenched around her shoulder.

"Evelyn, you are Luna queen now. Don't pay attention to such useless things. Let her blabber what she wants." He smirked.

He was trying to make me jealous but I refused to give in. Even though my heart ached with deep pain. Clara, my wolf might be in pain seeing her ex-mate close to someone else.

"You must be rotten trash now. Tell me who is your sugar daddy who gave you all this luxury?" Evelyn added while staring at my dress. I chuckled.

"Do you think I am like you? I don't need a man to get privileges for me, unlike you." I mocked her.

Brutus's eyes glimmered.

"Shut up. We all know you were begging outside the pack, you must have slept with someone to have a better life." Evelyn said enviously.

“Is that true? You traded your body for this?” Brutus took a step to approach me. I could feel his body heating.

I clenched my fist, I didn't feel like explaining anything to them. I tried to walk away but at the same time, a couple approached me with a kid in their hand.

"Doctor Cassandra, Thank you so much. You saved our kid two years back." I couldn't remember them, but I realised he was the Alpha of the southern part.

"Doctor?" Brutus and Evelyn's faces fell as soon as they heard that. I caressed the hair of that little child.

"How is he doing? Are you not troubling your parents? Do you?" I asked the baby in his hands.

"No doctor Cassandra, I love you." He kissed my cheeks. I smiled at him. I ignored Brutus and Evelyn completely.

"Asthon, I will join you for the ceremony," I said, grabbing the flair of my gown and walking away.

Even though I was busy with the ceremony, I felt Brutus's gaze piercing through my skin. It was heated.

"Asthon, I will leave tonight. I had an important session tomorrow." I lied, I knew he would insist I stay for another day, but after interacting with Brutus and Evlyn it's better I should leave.

"I won't stop you. But with Carter, I think you should stay for tonight. It's not good to leave with a small kid." Asthon insisted, I just nodded but decided to leave once Asthon was busy with guests.

Before I could say anything, I felt my phone vibrating. I stared at it, It was from an unknown number. I answered the phone, but due to the crowd, I was barely able to hear anything. I went to the silent gallery to talk.

"Hello, who is this?" I asked,

"Hello, Miss Gorden. Carter is missing."

I felt like lightning struck my head. It was the biggest nightmare I could ever have. My hands started trembling. The crescent moon pack was so big that it was difficult to find him among the crowd.

"What? How could this happen? Where did he go?" I asked. He had thalassemia and he got claustrophobic if he was stuck in a small place.

"I don't know madam. He was just playing around, I went to the bathroom and he.."

"Just search him around, I will do the same. Check every place." I hung up the phone and stepped into the hall again.

My head turned blank, where should I start searching for him? Had he gone outside the pack? Shall I tell Asthon about it? He just turned Alpha and had control over the army.

I was about to walk to him but suddenly I heard a shout from the other side of the hall.

"How dare you, Little brat."

I parted the crowd and rushed ahead only to find Evelyn holding Carter's wrist tightly and confronting him as if he was a culprit. My brows furrowed at the sight.

Carter, who was always smiling and joyful, appeared so dull and his head was down.

"Tell me, your bitch mom didn't teach you manners."

Evelyn asked her, gripping his wrist tighter. Alpha King Brutus arrived there, I clenched my fist.

"I did it, you should not bring my mom in it. She did not fault it." Carter answered. That triggered Evlyn and she raised her hand to slap Carter.

I quickly grabbed her wrist before she could touch the hair on my son's head. Brutus frowned when he saw that.

"Enough. Two adults bullying a small kid, this is how you vow to fight injustice."

I said aggressively, grabbing her wrist with the same force she did with my child.

Carter raised his head and saw me. His dull face brightened again, he quickly rushed to me and wrapped his tiny arms around my legs. His big blue eyes turned glassy telling me he was so scared.

"Mommy.. Where were you? I missed you so much." He said and everything I saw Brutus's eyes sharpened at his words.
