Call for funeral

Cassandra POV

The moment I opened my eyes, my gaze fell on a beautiful woman sitting in front of me. She was wearing white chiffon clothes, a mild smile on her face.

"Are you okay now?" That woman asked me, as she caressed my hair. Her gaze was so affectionate.

The surroundings smelled so good that For a moment I felt I had died and arrived in heaven.

"You survived a brutal attack. If anyone was at your place, she wouldn't be alive. You are strong blood, that's why your wounds heal faster than others.”

She said I recalled everything before passing out. How brutally they tried to kill me. I suddenly recalled my pup and grabbed my belly.

"And my baby... How is it?"

I asked panickly. I was healed but I was hardly able to hear my pup. I couldn’t feel his heartbeat. Perhaps that was because of pain in other parts of my body.

"He is fine. I checked him, he is strong, more like an Alpha blood."

My eyes widened when she mentioned him. It's a baby boy. A smile appeared on my lips despite having extreme pain in my body.

"But how did you end up there? You don't look like a rogue. You have a beautiful fragrance. You appear elegant." She said, staring at the features of my face.

My brows furrowed, they didn't know me. They even brought me to their pack. Don’t they hear the announcement of Alpha King Brutus?

"Where am I?" That place seemed like a hospital.

"This is a doctor's pack. My son Doctor Alpha Luke found you in the woods and brought you to our country."

She said and I realised that they didn't know about what happened to the Dark Moon pack. Here is your bag, it was beside you.

She handed me a bag. I was stunned when I found the money wasn't stolen. Those rogues were sent to kill me.

"Where is your home? We would contact them." She asked me, checking the glucose level. It must have been painkillers and I felt better by then.

"I don't have a home. I am a rogue.." I said. She stared at my belly and then my face.

"Alright, you can stay here until your baby is born. You can't go to a rogue community in such conditions."

She said and stepped out. I walked down my bed and followed her out. It took me less than a minute to understand the pack belonged to Doctors.

I heard about them once in the news. It was more like an organization of doctors and they help needy packs, the pack under attack. They even help rogues without expecting a return. They had doctors full of experts in every field who had demand all over the world.

Alpha Luke established this pack with his mother.

"Excuse me, I want to pursue a career, will you help me? I would love to serve the packhouse" I asked her.

When I found out Brutus was my mate, Being a good wife to Brutus was the only thing I had in my mind. I worked hard and learned everything that Luna does. I aimed to be a perfect Luna and I almost forgot I was nothing besides that. I became a housewife and gave up my entire career and dream of becoming a doctor.

Now I am not alone, I need to think about my baby. Once he is born, he will be dependent on me.

"I will discuss this with my son Alpha Luke. I hope he won’t refuse." She said and gestured at a tall and very handsome man instructing the group of doctors. He could be around twenty-three but seemed quite intelligent.

He was as smart as to be a model but chose to be a doctor. His mother and he were abandoned from his pack, his mom was a doctor and started this pack to treat needy people.

She went and talked to Alpha Luke about me, he raised his head and showed me a thumbs up. I was on cloud nine. Finally Alpha Luke approved and I began pursuing my career as a doctor.

Five years later

"Carter? Miss Wimbledon, have you seen Carter?" I asked her panickly, her brows raised.

"Is he missing again?" She asked me worryingly. I was not willing to make her worried but Carter was unreachable again.

I nodded, he just arrived from school and he had already disappeared for the day.

"Cassy, you have an operation after half an hour. Let me find him." Mrs. Wimbldon said but I was restless. How can I perform a cesarean operation when Carter is missing?

“Mrs. Winbeldon, will you please send any other doctor? What about Suzy?” I said. Mrs. Wimbledon was disappointed.

“Cassy, you are the best fertility expert in the whole country. This is not an ordinary baby. This is IVF baby, you can’t send Suzy who has no idea about it.” Mrs. Wimbledon said with disappointment. “Alright, I will handle her.” She patted my shoulder and went to the operating room.

I searched Carter everywhere in the pack but he was nowhere to be seen. I rubbed my temples, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if anything happened to him. I started blaming my negligence.

"Mommy..."

I heard his voice and my heart pounded. I rushed to the backyard, he was playing with a small rabbit. I breathed a sigh of relief.

“Mommy… I feed them cabbage today.” He walked and hugged me immediately. I knelt and embraced him.

“Why do you disappear this way? You scare your mommy..” I kissed his forehead.

His sapphire blue eyes blinked when looked at me. I caressed his brown hair. His presence in my life reminds me of Brutus every day. How every feature of his face was similar to Brutus. Even his anger was the same as his. No one in the doctor’s pack dared to offend Carter.

"You are worrying too much about him." Alpha Luke arrived and said. I nodded. "He is brave, he is just a kid who wants to roam freely, stop worrying about him too much. Am I right Carter?"

“Yes, Uncle Luke. Only you understand me. Mom should learn something from you.” Carter gave him a high five to Alpha Luke.

Alpha Luke treated Carter just like his family member and they are called each other best friends.

"I don’t want to worry about him. I wanted him to roam freely just like any other kid. But the fact is I am shaken by what happened last week.” I said with a heavy voice.

Carter was not a normal kid, he was born with co-genital Thalassemia. He needed a blood transfusion every other month.

Last week he fainted in his room, and it was locked from inside. We thought he was sleeping, but later we had to rush to the hospital. I didn't want the same thing to happen again.

"He is doing better than other thalassemia kids. No one could tell that he had it by looking at his face. He is active in schools too."

Luke assured me.

"Alpha Luke is better at cheering me up right?" I asked teasingly. He smiled with a broad smile.

“Anything for you, just give me one chance. I know how to make you motivated and happy.” Alpha Luke leaned towards me. With the flirtatious smile on his lips, I couldn’t help but push him away.

“Enough, Alpha Luke, I have an operation now,” I said, tugging my hands in the pockets of my apron.

"How many times should I tell you? Stop calling me Alpha, it's Luke for you."

“Alright, Luke..” I dragged his name. He nodded.

"I am playing with Carter. You can perform the surgery without worry.” He held Carter’s shoulder and said.

"Yes Mommy, Uncle Luke is going to take me to a gaming zone. He promised me that." Carter exchanged glances with Luke and he nodded.

For a moment I thank the moon goddess that he sent Luke and his mother to our life. They both not only saved our lives but also helped me to get over my past. Today I became a famous fertility expert.

“Alright, bye.” As I was about to step inside, I found the mailman standing at the door.

My brow furrowed. Who sends mail in the era of Phones and emails? I ignored and was about to get in but the word fell to my ears and I froze.

"Cassandra Aston? It's your mail." The postman said.

“Cassandra Aston,” Luke stared at me with disbelief. No one knew my last name here.

My brows furrowed. Who will send me an email, especially when no one contacted me for five years?

I found the mail was from a Crescent Moon pack, it was my dad's pack.

I quickly tore the envelope and read the letter. My heart sank when I found out my dad died last night. The tears rolled down my cheeks unknowingly.

Asher had held Dad's funeral and asked me to attend it. Going back to that place again was not possible.

"There is no use going to the funeral." I tore the paper and threw it away. I walked into the packhouse.
