Chapter eighty-two

Katherine’s POV

The area was too quiet.

I could hear every step and the ruffle of winds.

I was wide awake- unable to sleep after last night of course- staring at the ceiling. I felt pleasantly numb after all the violence and bloodshed of yesterday.

I even miss the noise I used to grumble waking up to every morning of the young ones practicing their sword fight techniques in front of Hope's yard. Everyone was still shocked by the suddenness of the attack, preferring to be at peace with themselves.

A knock on the front door got me jumping, all startled because I was lost in thought.

I was still in my nightwear so I grabbed a long ratty t-shirt of Caleb's that I stole when he came over, the fabric well worn from constant usage. I loved it even more because of that and it made me feel good to have a part of Caleb with me always.

I was surprised to see Emma, one of Hope's secretaries- I'm at a loss as to what I can call her- from the Academy at my door.
