Chapter eighty-one

Katherine’s POV

I woke up to the sound of cries and shouts. In the past month that I've been here, I've never heard anything like that except during sparring sessions and even so, it didn't sound that horrible.

Serenity was truly an apt name for this town because it represents everything that they stand for. I've never met

I jumped up from bed and immediately went to my window to take a peek at what was going on.

Maybe it was a type of festival they did?

What I saw sent terror racing through my heart. People were racing down the streets while men dressed in black were gunning them down.

I held back a gasp when I noticed a man ruthlessly beating a woman up.

Noting the time- 6:03- I shed my sleep clothes, wore something fitted and grabbed my weapons from where I always kept them.

Underneath my bed.

While the city of Serenity has opened its welcoming hands to me, the reality that at any point, they could turn on me was real so I never went to sleep with them closeby.
