Chapter eighty -seven

Katherine's POV

Is this death?

I had to ask that question after three days of no food. The pain in my stomach was now constant, the endless groaning in a pitiful attempt to cry out for food was disturbing.

It had significantly slowed down my progress back to the pack, but I was weak and even breathing too hard was a chore.

The food I snuck out from Hope's house finished in the first five days…which was my fault because I forgot to ration it.

I had underestimated how far we were from civilization and that was costing me.

I dropped my backpack and rested under a cool shade, too tired to even appreciate the beauty of nature all around me.

Moaning, I folded over holding my stomach.

I didn't even have the phone that Caleb gave me while away time, since I had to trade it for some apples, and sour pie.

All I saw was lush greenery which gave me hope that I could find something to eat amongst the trees. Something safe, not harmful.

But first, I'd have to stand up.
