As the kids entered into the kitchen, Cameron followed behind them immediately, and Ruby could feel him staring at her with his hard gaze. “Good morning everyone!” she greeted as she finished setting the table and then she sat down. “Good morning, Ruby.” Both Summer and Spring chorused, greeting her with a smile on their faces. They had just woken up a few minutes ago because their father had insisted on waking them up himself. Ruby smiled back at them and then she pushed the plates in front of them. Breakfast for the day was toast, eggs, bacon, and carrots. She had also poured milk for them both, and a cup of steaming hot coffee for their father. She was trying so hard to evade his gaze because she knew he was angry. Why was he angry then? She asked herself as if she had no idea, but that was a lie. She did know the reason for the emotion. Yesterday, he had asked her out on a date and she had laughed at it, telling him that he had gotten the order of things between them so wrong.

As soon as the front door closed, Cameron grabbed her and pulled her to him. He had an amused grin on his face as he looked down at her and she suppressed the urge to wipe it off for him. "Are you angry with me?" he asked when she struggled to get away from him. Clenching her teeth, she tried to yank herself out of his hands again, but there was no such luck. "No," she said dryly without looking at him. He pushed one brow up. "Hmm, is that right?" he asked while releasing her and stepping back. Ruby righted her clothes and rolled her eyes. What was his problem? "Yes." She forced out, as they started to walk out of the house. Soon, they got to the car and he opened the door for her. She glared at him before slipping inside, and then he closed the door. He walked around the car, got in, and strapped in his seatbelt. "So about lunch. Are you really not going to go with me? I just want us to have a proper date. I want us to do things right since I've gotten all the steps wrong.” He s

Ruby realized that she had forgotten the list of the things she needed to buy at home, and she decided she was going to have to shop as she pleased. Thankfully, Cameron had given her his black card this morning when she told him she needed to get groceries. She pushed the cart to the fruit section and wondered how many apples will be sufficient for making apple pie for the kids. She had decided to make that for them as dessert for tonight’s dinner. She loved cooking, but most especially, she loved taking care of summer and spring as much as she could. With a frown on her face, she squinted her eyes as she thought about what to get. She had just started to shop for the things she needed when she realized that she was not on the list, but that doesn't matter. She was going to have to do it off her head, plus she could still remember some of the things she had written down. She turned to face the shelf and picked out a bag of apples, and she carefully dropped it into the cart she was

“I really don’t have time for this, I have to go.” She said, and then she started to leave again, making up her mind that she would not turn back no matter what he said again, only this time, it wasn’t his voice that stopped her, it was his hand. She shivered, a crawling feeling went down her body, and she felt like peeling off the skin of the place he had touched. Yanking her arm from his hand, she took several steps back from him and put up a disgusted look on her face. “Don’t you dare ever touch me again in your life. You hear me?” she asked him. Roy jumped back as if she had spat at him, and he raised both his hands up in surrender. “Just so you understand me as clearly as I mean the words coming out of my mouth, I'll say this again. Don't you ever dare act as if you know me again, if you ever run into me, just pretend you don’t know me, act as if we've never meant anything at all to each other." She paused to shake her has and smiled. "You’re not even remorseful or ashamed of

It was late when he got back, but he didn't think the house would be as quiet as it was. He dropped his bag on the floor of the hall and walked to the kitchen. As he entered, he walked to the fridge in the partial darkness, the only light coming from the ray of moonlight from outside. Everything was in shadows, but he was able to walk around it. Soon, the security light from outside would be turned on, and it would reflect into the kitchen as it moved around from the security tower on the east side of the house. He got out a bottle of water and threw his head back to drink his to his full, not minding to grab a cup. He was that thirsty. Going from one meeting to another had just about dried him off his strength and made him so perched, that he drank almost all the content of the bottle. Summer and Spring would be asleep by now, seeing as he had already talked with them after dinner over a video call that Ruby had prompted, which reminded him that he needed to go see her. He had re

“Geez, Ruby. Why are you trying to kill me?” she heard him ask and she realized who it was, and then she opened her eyes to see him clearly, the light from outside shining in. “Oh, Cameron. You almost gave me a fright.” She said, even though he had practically given her more than a fright. She had almost had a heart attack when she realized someone was in the house. She was right when she said that it wasn't anyone from the people she knew who had gone to bed. “Huh, am I supposed to apologize to you for almost breaking my head?” he asked, collecting the club completely from her hand and dropping it at his side. “Oh yes, you should. Why were you in the dark for goodness sake? You could have been anyone, a thief even.” She said. “But I'm not!” “And I should have given you the opportunity to turn out to be before swinging the club I supposed.” She asked in sarcasm. “That’s definitely not what I meant. I was just too close to you killing me, that's all.” He sighed, rubbing his head

The work for today was almost done, and he would be able to meet with the private detective as planned. He needed to find out who Roy was, whatever he was up to, all the dirt that he could dig up on him, something, anything to use to keep him away from Ruby. Pushing that to the back of his mind, he focused on the file in front of him. He was tired and the fatigue was from not taking a break to have anything to eat and working since he got to the office this morning. He had gone from meeting to meeting today, with no break until it was done, and immediately after, well, after taking a few minutes to go to the bathroom, he had resumed working on the files on his table. He had asked his secretary about a few minutes ago to get something he could munch on quickly for him downstairs or in the coffee room if she had something to do and was still expecting her back, so when he heard a knock sounded on his door, and his secretary poked her head in, he thought she was bringing in what he had

Cameron squinted his eyes with a frown, and he wondered if this was about his relationship with Ruby, his children’s nanny, and himself, but he hoped that she wasn’t going to say something that would anger him. She might be his mother, but he wasn’t going to let her say anything bad about her, or about his relationship with her. He wasn’t looking for anyone’s approval to be with him, and no matter what she said, he was going to stay with her. He refused to say anything and waited for what she would say next. “I heard you have someone you're dating now, someone that helped convince your investors about a deal.” She said. “Yes, mother.” He said, not offering any more explanation to that effect. There was nothing to say just yet, he needed to know everything she knew and what she was thinking before he could say anything. “Oh, I see. So you're seriously not going to say anything about it.” She said. "You should though, because hearing this from another person isn't as nice as it may

Detective Gomez loved working for Mr. MacMillan, and he had always been his go to detective, he knew that and that was why he loved being on his retainer. It was one of the reasons he was working for him, his ability to keep work as confidential as possible. This wasn’t the first case he had worked on for him, but this seemed like it was important because of the way he had stressed on making sure he stayed hidden. The job was to find out everything he could about a cop, any dirt if there was one. Cameron would be going out later in the evening to meet Detective Gomez, as scheduled. He could have waited for his appointment to be over and met with him, or even allow him to come home but he didn’t want anyone to know that he was meeting a detective, especially Ruby. Speaking of, he needed to see her. She was the reason he had left work to come home first before going to his appointment with the detective because he was still worried about her. He knew that she had not been eating, neither was she taking her pills, so he had to come home to see her. He was really worried about her, and he hated that the man was getting to her this much. This was making him so curious and wondering how much feeling she had for him left, or what exactly happened between them. To be honest, he was confused, but he knew she said she didn't have any feelings for him anymore, and that at least he could believe. There was still something there though, only she wasn't sure what it was. If truth be told
