Chapter 1

It was the 80th birthday of the matriarch of the Somners.

The Somners' residence in Creek Valley was decorated brightly with lights all around, and it was bustling with cheerful noises.

It took only a short three years for the Somners, who used to be a third-rate family in Creek Valley, to become the most coveted family in the city. It was an astonishing feat no one expected.

Finn Chapman was the son-in-law of the Somners. He was staring thoughtfully at a picture hanging in the middle of the hall. It was a picture of the Somners' patriarch, Byron Somner, who passed away three years ago.

'Three years have passed, Mr. Somner Senior. According to our agreement, I've paid my debt to the Somners. I hope you won't blame me for taking back what the Somners owe me this time," Finn looked at the picture as he thought so in his heart.

Three years ago, Finn met Byron before he passed away.

Back then, the Somners were facing an internal conflict, and Byron had been worried that the Somners would fall apart once he passed away. When Byron found out Finn's real identity, Byron made two requests to him.

One, he hoped that Finn would be able to secretly help stabilize the Somners' situation and revive them to higher levels.

Two, he hoped Finn would be able to marry into the Somners by taking his granddaughter, Yvonne's, hand in marriage.

Byron had once saved Finn at a time when Finn was in a dire situation, which was why Finn agreed to both of Byron's requests without hesitation.

It was only after Byron announced this news to the Somners that he passed away.

That was how Finn married into the Somners without issues.

During these three years, Finn used his power and connections to push the Somners to greater and newer heights, which resulted in them becoming Creek Valley's first-class family.

Finn had kept his promise to Byron. However, the Somners had a different opinion. From their point of view, Finn was a good-for-nothing. The Chapmans used to be a powerful family in Creek Valley, but that was more than a decade ago.

None of them could understand why Byron would marry the Somners' pretty little princess to a good-for-nothing like him. It was a waste of a beautiful woman.

That was why the Somners insulted Finn constantly, giving him lots of trouble after Byron's passing.

They hoped that Finn would ask for a divorce and Yvonne would be a free woman again. However, Finn silently accepted everything they threw at him due to his promise to Byron.

This only caused the Somners to be even more upset. They had the impression that Finn wanted to leech off the Somners and refused to leave.

They had no idea that Finn was the reason why the Somners had been doing well the past three years and developed so extensively.

Despite being Finn's wife, Yvonne was constantly insulting him as well. She refused to let him touch her and even seduced random men constantly. She had no respect for her husband in name.

There was a point when Yvonne even brought her lover home right in front of Finn.

However, Finn tolerated all of this. It was all because of his promise. Now, the deadline for his promise was coming to an end. He was determined to end this.

"What are you daydreaming about, you good-for-nothing? Get out there and entertain the guests. Serving them drinks is your basic responsibility. How dare you laze around here? I'll tell Grandma about this, and you'll lose your allowance next month!"

While Finn was reminiscing, a shrill voice yelled out at him. It was a young man in a suit. He was Yvonne's brother and Finn's brother-in-law, Chester.

Chester had never shown any respect for Finn, even going as far as to treat him like domestic help.

"Do it yourself."

If this were before, Finn would have gone off to serve the guests obediently, but today was the day he was getting his freedom back. From this day onward, no one could force him into doing anything he did not want to.

Chester was taken aback to hear Finn's reply. He did not expect Finn to disobey him. Was this the same good-for-nothing who always got bullied?

"Are you itching for a beating, Finn? Do you believe that I'll beat you up right now?" Chester felt a little angry.

"Get lost!" Finn shouted. A powerful burst of energy erupted from him. There was a cold, murderous glint in his eye as well.

Chester felt his hair stand on end as he stumbled back a few steps in fear. He noticed that Finn was different than usual, but he could not put his finger on it.

"Hmph! Just you wait! I'll tell Grandma about this!" Chester said to him sharply.

The Somners' matriarch doted on Chester the most. She would definitely stand on his side. It took a few minutes for the woman of the hour to appear.

Emma Lorne was dressed in red and held a walking cane in her hand. She walked in with the Somner family members surrounding her.

She stared coldly at Finn. "Kneel, Finn!"

Emma roared angrily at Finn the moment she walked in. She slammed her walking cane, putting on quite an intimidating show. She did not care about who was wrong or right. All she wanted to do was teach Finn a lesson.

Chester gloated over Finn.. With Emma standing on his side, Finn would not be able to disrespect him again.

Finn swept a glance across all the Somners. He saw the condescending look in their eyes that also contained sarcasm, coldness, and even repulsion.

Among them included his wife, Yvonne. She looked beautiful and alluring on the surface, but she was actually a promiscuous woman.

She even had her lover standing next to her. Yvonne did not care about Finn's feelings at all, even bringing her lover to a public occasion like this.

"Why should I kneel? What right do you have to get me to kneel? Are the Somners even good enough to ask that of me?" Finn challenged Emma's authority by saying this to her face.

"How dare you speak that way, Finn?!"

"What insolence! How dare you disrespect Grandma?! You've crossed the line, Finn!"

"The Somners pay for your food and clothes, Finn. How dare you insult us this way? What an ingrate!"

"I vote for Finn and Yvonne getting divorced. A good-for-nothing like him has no place in the Somners. He's like a virus!"

"This gets my vote too. It'd be embarrassing if the guests saw him."

"I agree too!"

Finn's words angered the Somners, and everyone began berating him.

Yvonne's high heels clicked as she walked over to Finn. She raised her hand to slap him right in the face. However, just before her hand landed, he grabbed it.

"How dare you stop me?!" Yvonne glared at him.

This good-for-nothing husband of hers had never gone against her wishes. Even when Yvonne cheated on him, Finn said nothing. She used to hit Finn several times before, so she did not expect Finn to retaliate this time.

"I used to give in to you, but from now onward, that will never happen again." Finn looked at Yvonne coolly. He no longer had any feelings for her.

Grabbing Yvonne's hand like that was the most intimate action between them.

"Don't all of you want me to get a divorce? Well, I agree. I've already signed the divorce papers. I don't want anything. From now on, I'll have nothing to do with the Somners!"

Finn looked at everyone and suddenly took out the folded divorce papers from his pocket.

The Somners were taken aback at first but quickly showed mad delight over this.
