Josh was frantic.

He couldn't answer anything. His voice suddenly disappeared as if swallowed by a complicated life dilemma. It was as if his entire body was swallowed by quicksand with thousands of leeches eating away at his body.

His current situation was really difficult. Being forced to choose between the interests of his family and his feelings for Sharon, was like telling him to commit suicide. There was nothing he could choose. There was nothing he could prioritize over the others. Everything was important to him.

That's why he kept in touch with Sharon despite agreeing to break up with her. He had done everything he could. He was even willing to spend a lot of time making plans and being more careful so as not to get caught by anyone.

But Min Jinah was really a surprise.

He hadn’t thought of her at all, as his mother had never mentioned her. He believed it was all over since the incident from years ago had been resolved and faded over time.

He suddenly felt incredibly naive and foolish for thinking that Min Jinah had only blackmailed her family once.

"I just want you to have a good life. With a woman who is worthy and equal to you. Is it that hard to ask you to obey my simple wish? That you dare to break an agreement with your own mother?"

The woman's head shook. Her hand suddenly massaged her throbbing forehead.

She was indeed angry. But as a mother, she personally had hopes and disappointments if something bad happened to her own flesh and blood.

"You need to remember that I'm not just doing this for our family. But also for you. You have the great advantage of bonding with the Song family. Am I wrong, or am I right, Josh Lim?" Her question was deeply emphasized. “I really don't know what to do anymore since you've ruined everything.”

The woman realized she had rambled on too much.

Meanwhile, the concerns voiced by her youngest son had yet to be answered by her. Because she herself wasn't sure how to keep Min Jinah from making Josh's scandal reach anyone's ears—especially her in-laws.

"Regarding the Song family... I will take care of it. As much as I can. But in exchange, I'm asking you to behave. I want to emphasize that I'm not messing around with our agreement."

Josh suddenly panicked.

"Mom. Please forgive me. I promise I won't do it again. I'll break things off with Sharon. But please-please don't hurt her. I beg you."

Her mother's eyes narrowed in displeasure, "You always say the same thing. You also said and made similar promises to me before. But what did I get? You broke your own promise and lied to me. It's as if you chose that bitch over your mother who gave birth to you and gave you everything."

Josh was getting more panicked. He knew he was wrong. He readily admitted that he was guilty of deceiving his mother and breaking the silent agreement.

But he also couldn't let Sharon suffer the consequences of his careless actions. Damn it. He really regretted and blamed himself for not being able to prepare everything better and more thoroughly so that he could still hide his relationship safely. Without obstacles, and difficult to uncover.

Josh, who could no longer evade or even think of other ways to survive his mother's sanction, acted recklessly. At the very least, he had to get her forgiveness.

Immediately, without thinking, he stood up and kneeled by his mother's feet. Both his hands rested on his own feet and his face looked down deeply.

"I beg you. I'm sorry, Mom. This time I promise to keep our agreement. I will make it right. I will truly obey your wishes. But—“ again, his breath caught in his throat, ”but, please let Sharon go. She has nothing to do with what I did. I was the one who decided yesterday to keep in touch with her secretly. So please, please..." His voice trembled.

His mother looked at him with pity mixed with disgust. She knew Josh's character more than anything. The experiences that had happened to her son over the years were enough for her to judge at a glance how her youngest son's eyes had been blinded by that one bad girl.

She had already made threats, but in reality they were just taken for granted and ended up being lied to for the umpteenth time by Josh. There was no other way, except to threaten Josh with something that he was really afraid of so that he would really be willing to leave and break up with Sharon—without doing any more tricks.

But in what way, the woman herself couldn't think of yet.

She would probably come up with a plan after this. To make sure that the relationship that she had worked so hard to build to tie the knot between the Lim and Song families was preserved without a scratch. Especially the cheap scandal with Sharon.

“I'll think about it,” his mother finally said, "Either forgive you and give you a chance to mend, or... outright ruin that slutty girl's life—if you're still trying to get in touch with her. Or if I simply feel like it. I'm sick of both of you, you know?"

Josh swallowed his saliva with difficulty. He remained kneeling, his head bowed, trying to show how serious he was about his regret.

“But in exchange for your lies, what will you do to make up for it?”

Josh's forehead wrinkled. He knew he wasn't in a position to negotiate—but he did it anyway, all while apologizing. Which leads to uncertainty. The only option he had at the moment was to beg for forgiveness. And ease his mother's anger, even if just a little. That was all he could do.

"Anything. I will do anything for you."

His mother smiled.

Then, for a moment, she fell into deep thought—searching for something amusing, something that would keep her youngest son away from that parasitic girl.

"I heard you guys postponed your honeymoon? Just because of your company's project launch next month?"

Josh blinked. Then replied softly, “Yes.” He knew. He could guess what his mother was about to say next.

"Go immediately, I'll have Assistant Yoon take care of it for you. I'll also ask your grandfather to send his people to help with your project. No need to think about work. Just focus on your own wife."

Josh almost launched a protest from his mouth. But he resisted with all his might and replaced it with a weak nod.

“As long as you promise not to hurt Sharon.”

His mother exhaled harshly, "Sharon, Sharon, Sharon! Why is there only that rotten girl in your head? Do you really want to kill your own mother?!"

"I only dare to ask for that. The rest I will obey you completely. Please, Mom," he said in a trembling but forced tone. He felt that he had to do everything she could to protect Sharon.

"I already told you. I’ll think about it later. I'll decide whether you're serious about keeping our agreement. If you break it again, if I get upset about something else... maybe I won't waste any more time," then as if remembering something, her mother opened her mouth again. "Ah. I'll also check if your reason for meeting with your manager is true, or also a lie."

For this one, Josh could conclude that Jason did not know that he was with Sharon at the restaurant this afternoon. He could exclude Jason from being a potential threat to him.

"Mom, I did meet with my manager. But—afterward... I met with Sharon... and..."

"Then how about last night. You haven't answered where you were last night?"Josh again swallowed his saliva with difficulty.“At home,” he replied softly. “Of course I was home with Ashley.”His mother glanced at him without interest. Even though she didn't actually know whether her son was lying or not—she herself had asked this one question only because Min Jinah was babbling incoherently about how she wasn't sure if she'd seen Josh or someone who looked like Josh going out late at night from his apartment on the wedding night."I hope you're not lying. I heard something uncomfortable, but I don't know if it's true or not... But leaving a woman alone on the wedding night—that would hurt her a lot. You have to understand that."Josh's jaw hardened.Remembering that he not only left Ashley last night, but also fought and was rude to her, made his guilt tingle again."I also want you to keep your other promises. We can't wait too long,“ her mother thought again, ”should I legalize our

"Yes. Interesting, isn't it?"“That brother of yours seems really stupid, huh.”"He's just blind. That girl is very good at clouding his common sense. Sometimes I wonder what it is about that girl that makes Josh cling so tightly, as if he’s incapable of letting go—as if her presence is inescapable. Like it's impossible to let go of the shadow," Jason paused."That girl is like a leech, Mr. Lim. That's why your brother has a hard time letting go of her. Just like a person with a severe addiction, for him she acts as both a parasite and a source of opium."Jason was quite impressed by the former journalist's reasoning and judgment. He couldn't disagree against it—because what she said was so true. Her words were disturbingly accurate."You sound like an expert. No wonder you used to be such a great journalist.”“Used to be? What about now?” Jinah’s voice held a tinge of irritation."Of course you've become more skillful and professional. If you weren’t reliable, I wouldn't have reached

Tonight Josh was forced to return to his own home. After his very intense conversation with his mother, it was clear that he didn't dare to go straight back to Sharon's apartment. In fact, he was unsure whether he should be determined to stay away from Sharon for a while, or whether he should be stubborn enough to meet her secretly as usual. Which of course came with consequences that were far worse than before. If he took the first option, compromised with Sharon and kept their distance—even though the girl would explode in anger and refuse to part with him without listening to any reason, as he had tried in the past—maybe he would be able to delay a little time to find a way to get back together with Sharon without having to worry about any sanctions. But if he took the second option, by continuing to prioritize Sharon and breaking his own promise—which he had even said with a face full of guilt less than an hour ago—then, he really had to be ready to accept a punishment that would

There was no need to think too hard right now, because no matter how hard he tried, his thoughts kept spinning in the same endless vortex. There was no light at the end of the tunnel. Nor did there seem to be any easy way out. Everything was dark—as if he were trapped alone in a labyrinthine abyss, with no light, no clues, no hope of escape. The more he sped up his running, the more he amplified his screams, or the more desperate he was to find the exit... all he found was the deeper he got lost.Maybe he didn't need to solve everything right now. Maybe, tomorrow, he would find a miracle—something that he hadn't thought of yet.Josh decided to clean himself up after sitting there for a while.Still only half-aware of his actions, he wandered toward the master bedroom. It was pure instinct—a reflex from his body seeking the most natural place to rest. Even after Josh realized he was standing in front of the door, he didn't immediately turn around or back away. He didn’t panic. He just

Josh woke up in a much better condition than before. As his consciousness rose to the surface, and his eyes peered open, he could feel the fatigue that had previously settled over his body had now vanished. Perhaps not entirely, but it was enough to make him feel lighter and more comfortable. He turned her head to the side—just because before going to bed he remembered Ashley was there—and found emptiness. The lighting in the room was also still the same as last night, the curtains were still closed, and it was so quiet. It certainly piqued her curiosity, about how long he had fallen into a deep sleep and what time it was.Slowly, he got up from the bed and sat himself on the edge. Then he swept his gaze across the room as he recalled where he had last placed his cell phone. After a few careful head turns, his eyes found the phone lying on the coffee table by the window.Josh then stood up and walked towards the location of his cell phone. After carefully watching Ashley's gestures, facial expressions, and the look in her eyes, Josh was finally able to translate what she meant. His mouth then automatically formed the letter ‘Aah’ as a response that he understood. Then, Josh tried to hold back and postpone everything he had planned before—looking for Ashley because he wanted to continue their conversation yesterday. But Josh still didn't move. His eyes did seem to follow the direction where his father pointed to a folder with his chin. But as soon as he dropped his gaze on the inanimate object, his imagination and hopes about the future of his life with Sharon died. The sound of his father's cell phone broke the short silence between them. After checking the identity of the caller, his father's finger slid over the button and answered briefly. A “Hello” was followed by a few “Hm-hm” and finished with “Yeah, I'll be right there.”Josh watched his father's movements from the tail of his eyes in silence. With his mouth tightly shut and head still bowed, he stared at the folder that held the record of how his life story would end.The man who had almost the same facial lines as Josh glanced at the woman beside him for a signal. There was even a moment when Josh felt that the two of them could be good friends. As the plane landed back in their hometown, Ashley could barely stop herself from screaming. Sharon's first night in Paris, after she arrived and met Josh, the hotel felt very different to Ashley. As expected, Josh did not return to their room that night. Instead, he stayed in Sharon's room which was located right next to theirs. Ashley lay down on her bed, but the sadness that was choking her heart prevented her from sleeping. Amidst the silence of the night, Ashley could hear quite a few noisy and disturbing sounds - laughter, small talk, and above all, the sound of Sharon who was probably enjoying her evening with Josh. Every second felt like time stood still, yet filled with anxiety.Ashley pulled the blanket closer to her body, trying to calm her mind. However, in the darkness, the loneliness and hurt continued to haunt her. It was a very hard night. Ashley thought, why did this happen to her? The two of them-Josh and Ashley-had shared beautiful moments. They had laughed together, talked about the future, and planned things. But now, Ashley felt like a stranger in Josh's

That morning, the Parisian air felt colder than usual, as if it shared Ashley's pent-up anxiety. Upon opening her eyes, she was surprised to find herself in Josh's arms, closer than ever before. Their position this time was very different-their faces were too close, almost inches apart. They stared at each other with their eyes wide open, both stunned.Josh seemed to have just realized their position. Reflexively, he pulled his body slightly, separating the distance between them. However, their gazes remained focused, as if time had slowed down. There was only an awkward silence between them. Josh, who usually looked relaxed, now looked a little uneasy. On the other hand, Ashley could only look at the man with mixed feelings-between confused, upset, and not knowing what to do."Ma-sorry," Josh stammered, finally breaking the silence. "I... didn't mean-"Ashley looked at him sharply. She could feel his irregular heartbeat, perhaps even faster than usual. "I... don't know what to say,"

Josh took many photos of Sharon in front of other famous paintings. No matter that there was a ban on photography in some parts, Josh quietly stole moments - too eager to capture Sharon's contented smile.Afterwards, they walked to the Eiffel Tower. There, they took pictures at various corners of the Champ de Mars park, and then climbed to the top of the tower, getting a bird's-eye view of the entire city of Paris.Sharon hugged Josh tightly as the wind picked up, chuckling and tea

Josh sighed, his eyes closed for a moment, as if holding back a burst of frustration. He walked over to the sofa, looking at it with skepticism.“It's small and hard, Ash,” he said, his tone getting heavy. "I've been exhausted since Korea. Had to spend the night with Sharon..."Josh stopped, realizing his mistake in saying the name.Ashley's face instantly changed. The look in her eyes froze.“Yes, of course,” Ashley muttered, her voice laden with bitter sarcasm. “You're exhausted from ‘serving’ Sharon, then think I should just understand?”Josh growled in frustration. “That's not what I meant!”Ashley approached, standing just a few steps away from him, her body tensed like a bow ready to shoot.“Every time I try to feel better about all this, every time I start to think maybe we could be friends, maybe even... more, you always remind me who I am in your eyes!” she said sharply."Just a formality. Someone you married because of a contract, while your heart is elsewhere."Josh returne

Two weeks have passed since the warm but awkward meeting between Josh, Ashley, and their two moms. Many things have changed since then. The wounds on Ashley's body are slowly healing, both physically and mentally. Mrs. Kim finally declared Ashley healthy, and the news brought a wave of new plans-including the long-delayed honeymoon.Josh's mom, with her typical enthusiasm, decided to give a special gift: a honeymoon trip to Paris. Everything was organized in perfect detail, from the first-class flight to the luxurious hotel overlooking the Seine River. Ashley herself could hardly believe it was all happening so fast. But, on the other side of the city, Josh faced a more complicated dilemma. The night before departure, Josh sat in his car, staring at his phone screen that displayed Sharon's name.
