Lily was still shivering from the threatening call she received from Ashley’s lover, and she did not know what to do. Christopher did not even give her enough time to dwell on it or come up with a solution, because a few minutes after that, Lily found herself in Christopher Bridger’s private jet.

“Welcome, Mrs. Bridger, we are glad to make your acquaintance, and congratulations on your wedding,” the air hostess, a young and attractive woman with a deep London accent said to Lily.

Lily swallowed for lack of what to say. She instantly felt small and inadequate in her presence.

“I am Matilda, Mr. Bridger’s personal hostess,” she went on to introduce herself when Lily looked tongue-tied.

“Thank you. It’s nice to make your acquaintance as well,” Lily managed to answer.

If Christopher’s air hostess could be this sophisticated, then Lily could only imagine what the other women in his life would look like. Well, from the wedding reception, Lily already had an image of that etched in her head.

“Would you like some tea for a start?” Matilda asked. “We would be flying for hours,” she said and chuckled, “Not that you need the information anyway.”

“Yes, tea would be fine,” Lily managed to say, and as Matilda turned to leave, Lily called her attention again. “Excuse me, but where are we headed?” Lily asked. Since Christopher hadn’t bothered to tell her, she decided to ask.

Matilda looked at her, confused and stunned.

Then Lily realized her error. “Oops, never mind. Christopher says it’s a surprise,” Lily said instead.

She figured that instead of get herself into trouble she would rather let their honeymoon destination be a surprise to her “Take it as a wedding gift, Lily,” Lily told herself.

Matilda nodded. “Oh, okay,” then turned and left.

Lily released the breathe she did not realize she was holding, grateful that Christopher was engrossed in a business call to notice yet another slip.

“I am going to shoot myself in the leg before the week is over,” Lily said to herself in agony. Then she rested her head and decided to force herself to sleep.

Lily had never been on a plane before, and she was more impressed than surprised when she did not jump out of her skin when the plane took off.

“You handled that well Lily,” Lily had praised herself.

When Lily opened her eyes, they were in Miami. She hadn’t realized that she had slept that long.

Without waiting for her, Christopher who still happened to be on a business call walked out of the jet. Matilda walked up to Lily with a warm smile.

“You slept all through, ma’am. You did not even get to take your tea,” Matilda said.

The moment Matilda had walked away, Lily had forgotten all about the tea, but more than anything, she was grateful that she had slept all through the flight, otherwise she would have fooled herself again.

“Maybe next time,” Lily answered politely and got up.

There were people outside the jet waiting to be of service to Lily already.

“Welcome to Maimi, ma’am. I hope the surprise was worth it. Happy honeymooning,” Matilda added and allowed Lily to go down.

Lily liked Matilda already, but then again, she felt that the woman did not who know Ashley Grander actually was, because she was the only one who bothered to make a conversation with Lily.

The hotel was the grandest building Lily had ever seen. She had to force herself not to squeal at the beauty and luxury of it. In the elevator Christopher completely ignored Lily while he focused fully on his business call. Lily wondered what kind of business call he had been making for hours nonstop.

Their room was a master suite with the view of the ocean right outside their window. Lily looked around and asked herself if she was in heaven already. She had no idea that such luxury ever existed.

“Would you be needing anything else?” One of the hotel staff who helped them bring up their luggage asked.

Lily was shaking her head when Christopher’s voice cut through.

“Yes, please, take her to the beach,” Christopher told the staff, referring to Lily. “I need some time alone,” he said under his breath.

Lily was embarrassed as well as shocked, but she could not say a word in her defense.

Then Christopher added, “I know you want to, because you love the beach. So, grab your bikini and go with him,” Christopher said.

It was not a question or a suggestion; it was an order.

Lily quickly opened her box, grabbed the first bikini she could lay hands on and followed the staff out of the hotel room. She did not want to go to the beach, but she could not bring herself to defiling Christopher.

The hotel staff showed Lily to the beach and disappeared. Lily swallowed hard and took careful steps as she looked around, hoping to find a place she could sit for a few hours until it was safe to return to the hotel room.

“Well, well, well, if this isn’t the infamous Ashley Gander,” a female voice spoke from behind Lily.

Lily froze in her tracks. Then she turned and saw three curvy half-naked ladies close to her.

“You were here barely a week ago, and you are back again? I am not sure your husband knows all the dirty things you did while you were here,” one of them said and the others giggled mischievously.

“I am sure he doesn’t even know she was here just a week ago. Ashley, you wild beast,” the third person said.

Lily stood there, stunned and clueless as goose bumps covered her body.

Then they stopped teasing and looked at Lily before looking at themselves in bewilderment. “Why isn’t she talking?” One of them asked the others.

“Maybe she has finally found a man who is able to clip her wings,” the other one said.

“Or maybe he needs to know what you did here last week,” they teased.

Unable to stand them anymore, Lily dashed off, heading back to the hotel.

“Welcome again to Miami, slut!” Their jeering laughter followed Lily.

Aimee Landon walked into the tall building, her high pair of nude heels clicking against the magnolia floor. Her face wasn’t friendly for a fresh day’s start and that was primarily because she had had a rough night.“Good morning, Ms. Aimee,” the secretary greeted cheerily as she came out of the elevator and proceeded to her office.“Thank you,” Aimee said, straight-faced, and walked past her without bothering to be friendly for a bit. Her foul mood was very obvious, but Aimee did not care. She got into her office and shut the door.Barely two minutes into settling in, Aimee received an email stating that the rest of the board members had a meeting in less than thirty minutes; actually, it was reminder email, but Aimee hadn’t prepared for any meeting, and it was totally unlike her.Something was eating Aimee Landon up and it had something to do with Christopher Bridger honeymooning away in Miami.“I can definitely skip this one,” Aimee said disgustingly. After the confrontation which Lily felt she handled just fine, because Christopher stopped looking at her like a stranger, Lily went into the bathroom and stayed there for an unhealthy amount of time. The good thing was that Christopher would not be bothering her.Actually, he was not bothering her for one of the things Lily had been worried and nervous about; intimacy.“But how on earth am I supposed to keep up with this impersonation and not get caught?” Lily asked herself in exasperation. She turned on the shower so that the sound of the rushing water would be a distracting noise.“I am supposed to be doing my job at the Top Taste Wine shop, not out here in a luxurious hotel in Miami, impersonating a dead man’s wife,” Lily said as tears brimmed her eyes. There was a flicker of fear and dread in her eyes even though she tried to hide it.Lily looked at her and the first thing that came to her mind was to do tell Emily exactly how she felt. She could not understand how they could only be interested in getting money and taking Christopher’s wealth when they had just lost their only child. She was equally trying to contain her anger. Lily knew that these people now controlled her entire existence, so she would be careful what she said or did.“As you should,” Emily said. Yes, she loved Christopher Bridger deeply, but now, she loved him ten times more. Ashley would not have known the next thing to being Christopher’s anchor for tonight if she had been available, and Aimee was more than happy that she had had to do a little dirty act just to get this moment for herself and Christopher. She smiled triumphantly as she watched Christopher interact with people whose deals were capable of shooting up his company as her mind drifted to what she had had to do for him to earn it.Wh

Something good had obviously happened to Christopher Bridger, but Lily could not think about it without thinking about Aimee.“That is your next assignment.”Those were Emily’s words, and Lily knew now more than ever before that she could not fail. Lily could not tear her eyes off the TV. Christopher and Aimee looked like the perfect power couple, and a pang of jealousy shot through my veins. First, it was Aimee picking up Christopher’s call, and now, they were both attending the same party together. From the guests shown on TV, it was obvious that it was an elite party, and Lily could not deny how impeccably handsome Christopher looked. Among all the people in the crowd, Lily’s eyes continued to pick Christopher out, but then again, seeing him also meant that she would see Aimee glued to his side possessively.“Do you see what you have caused?” Emily’s voice rang out, cutting through the moment as she made her way downstairs.I turned quickly and looked at Emily, fear enveloping me all over again. For a moment, watching Christopher, Lily had almost forgotten her current predicament.“I…it’s…” I stuttered, not knowing what to say.Emily came and stood beside Lily, and Lily cowered in fright, thinking that Emily was going to gra

Lily was glad that she had been able to get back to her room without getting caught even though her attempts were futile. It was not until she was back in her room and pacing around again that she remembered that she could have called Rudney. “Gosh, Lily! How could you forget such a thing?!” Lily berated herself. The one person that would have picked up was Rudney, and yet, she did not remember to call him and ask about Joe. Anyway, Lily blamed it on the fact that she was agitated and also trying to hurry up. Then her mind went to her call to Christopher. “It has just been a couple of days that I have been away, and he is already going about with Aimee,” I said to myself jealously. Since when did Christopher start giving his phone to Aimee as though she was his secretary, and what were they doing together at that time? Lily had heard soft music playing in the background; were they out on a date? Lily scoffed. “Christopher never cared about me…or Ashley, and coming here was just

“Are you there now?” Don Grander asked Monk.Monk sat in his car outside the hospital as he talked with Don Grander over the phone. He had just arrived, but he knew that he could not stay parked in that spot longer than necessary.“All you have to do is get in there, get access to his word, and smother him,” Monk rehearsed the whole process that he had cooked up in his head over and over again. This was a government hospital, and he knew that what he was about to do was very risky. If he got caught, he would rot in jail. Monk never shied away from assigned duties, but he wished that Don Grander had assigned the same person he hired to find out if Benedict died or not to simply complete the task.“Yes, I just got here,” Monk answered, grounding his teeth. He looked around the premises and everyone went about their businesses innocently. His eyes fell on the hospital’s entrance, and Monk swallowed hard. The state government never took lightly to crimes, and Monk knew the consequences. H

Maybe Don Grander and Emily had forgotten about her, because aside from eavesdropping on their conversation, she had not heard Emily’s voice around.Taking the risk, Lily tiptoed downstairs, careful not to be seen. In the living room, she sighed in relief when she noticed that no one was there. Then swiftly, she made her way to the kitchen. Aimee Landon had taken it upon herself to hire stylists for Christopher’s dress fittings for the party. This was often the job of Trisha, but now that Trisha had been fired and Christopher was yet to get a replacement, Aimee gladly took it upon herself. “He must look dashing and impeccable, and no one in that party must come any close!” Aimee barked orders at the stylists as they styled Christopher in his bedroom. Another reason Aimee was over the moon with joy was because this gave her the opportunity to not just be in Christopher’s house, but in his room for the very first time. Usually, Christopher should have been styled at their studio, but because Aimee wanted this rare opportunity, she paid them extra to come to the house and style Christopher. Christopher was not comfortable with the idea of it; he preferred to go to their studio to get styled, because he hated having strangers in his mansion, but Aimee managed to talk him into accepting. “I think they are doing a good job,

Lily felt better than she had been, and for days now, she hadn’t set eyes on Don Grander or Emily. She wondered if they had forgotten that she was here. She also wished that Christopher would come again to take her away from here. Lily got up from Ashley’s bed and checked herself in the dressing mirror. Her face, arms, and legs were the same, but her back was filled with scars from Don Grander’s whips. As Lily managed to look at the scars in the mirror, tears began to flow from her eyes. Never in her life had she experienced this depth of pain, much more being scarred by it, and Lily regretted the day that Monk had seen and kidnapped her. “If I had just waited for Rudney like he pleaded with me to, I would not be here right now,” Lily said as she sobbed bitterly and regrettably. Then her mind instantly went to Joe! She had been so immersed in pain that she did not remember to think about Joe. The last time she had tried to ask Monk about him, she did not get a response.
