“Do you believe that accepting a ballet gown is a better option, implying that I will need to change into something more suitable?”

“Miss, could you please bring another gown with lace? This one is quite revealing,” I remarked to the saleslady, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. The thrill of making sales before noon is unmistakable.

“What’s so amusing that she can’t seem to stop grinning with that unattractive face of hers?” I hurriedly covered her mouth to prevent her from uttering the nonsense she was about to say.

I looked at Caroline in disbelief, my eyes shining with understanding.

“Don’t even think about softening your words for her; her sole purpose is to make sales,” I exclaimed, chewing gum slowly, my lips moving deliberately as if to emphasize my point.

She shrugged, her eyebrows raised in defeat. My words seemed to have drained her of strength.
