I entered my vehicle, started the engine, and drove away, tears streaming down my face as I focused intently on the road ahead. I must find a way to save Caroline; I cannot allow anything to happen to her, I stated, with a sense of calm.

The drive to my home was several kilometers from the scene, with street lights illuminating the path, their yellow glow casting a dim light inside my car.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed, causing my heart to race as I glanced at the caller ID and let out an exasperated hiss.

I pressed the receiver button and switched to speaker mode.

“What do you want? I don’t have time for this; I have other issues to address, so leave me alone,” I snapped before disconnecting the call, only for the phone to ring again.
