Lana pov

I slid into the driver's seat, my heart pounding as Caroline got in behind me. "Caroline, you can take the passenger seat; I'll handle the driving," I said. She hesitated, her brow furrowed. "I feel a bit uneasy when you're behind the wheel," she murmured.

"Why take the driver's seat when you've always disliked it? Fine, it's yours," I replied, moving to the back seat, my heart settling as I thought of Bryan, the little boy who kept asking for me.

As I got comfortable, I let out a sigh, and Caroline started the engine, speeding away.

My mind drifted to Alex. There was something Caroline wasn't sharing. I leaned forward, resting against the seat. "Caroline, I need you to tell me about Alex," I said softly. She abruptly halted the car. "There's nothing wrong between us; Alex is just part of my past," she answered, her voice shaky, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
