Chapter 42

COLD NIGHT

Caroline pov

The winter season enveloped me as I huddled beneath my duvet, feeling as though the chill had seeped through the fabric and wrapped itself around me.

I had turned off the air conditioning, the fan, and anything else that might stir the air and send shivers down my spine. Alone in my room, I clutched my pillows tightly, curling my legs in an attempt to ward off the cold.

I rolled from side to side on my bed, searching for a comfortable position that would keep the cold at bay.

"Oh Caroline, this cold is really getting to you," I murmured under the covers. Perhaps I should find someone to share warmth with; after all, love is often found in companionship.

With a resigned shrug, I tossed aside my duvet and swung my legs over the edge of the mattress. As I made my way to the light switch, I caught sight of a shadow.

"Jesus Christ!" I exclaimed, jumping back and hiding behind the mirror, wondering who would be lurking around the building at such a late hour.
