After the weird soldier punched my head, everything went dark. When I finally woke up, I found myself bound in chains inside a moving carriage.
I squinted as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and attempted to sit up, but a sharp pain shot across my waist.""What's with ya"? A gruff voice asked as I slid back slowly "why are ya groaning, do you need water or sumtin?"The question came from a burly man who sat beside me in the carriage and my heart palpitated in fear. "Do ya think the boss would be impressed wit our catch?", the burly man said, hovering above me. "You don't need to be afraid, lassie," he said to me, offering me a skin filled with water,"drink up, we have a long way to go""Don't talk nice to her, Horace" the man in front of the carriage said, but I wasn't listening to him. I was wondering where they were taking me and what would happen to me. Who was the boss they were referring to, and what did he want from me? What did the dead minister have to do with the issue as well?"Take the water, missy" Horace said again, but I only cringed and held my breath to keep his repulsive mouth odor away from my nose."If she doesn't take the water, Horace, pour it on her head."I thought I'd misheard the stoic man, but I hadn't finished processing my thoughts when Horace opened the skin and emptied its contents on my head. I cried out in pain as the cold water seeped into my hair, but no one said a word. I ignored the pain in my back and sat up, some droplets of water had made their way into my ear. I was trying to prevent the water from soaking my buttocks when my eyes suddenly landed on the dead body of one of the minsters.Goosebumps covered me from head to toe and as I kept gazing at the lifeless body of the fat middle-aged man. I began to wonder what would happen to me. Were these people going to kill me? I remember how I had begun my life and the pains I've had to go through. I cannot end my life here, I cannot just die."Where are you taking me!" I screamed out loud "and who are you people?"But the carriage only waded through the dark forest and my frail heart trembled in sync with it. With each passing step, I felt myself drifting further from home and closer to an unknown destination. I felt like I was dreaming, or perhaps existing within the pages of a book rather than in real life. The chain of events occurred to me within the space of four weeks felt surreal.First, I was married to the arrogant Alpha Prince. Then I was in prison, waiting to be sentenced. Now I was being carted off to nowhere, bound like a criminal in a carriage filled with armed strangers!. Perhaps the moon goddess did have favorites, people she favored and made life easy for, and then people who had no control over the unpleasant situations that befell them every time."Where are you taking me" I whimpered, blinking to grant the unshed tears in my eyes freedom as we journeyed deeper into the dense forest. Besides the tiny trail that the horse journeyed on, there was nothing else in the forest that welcomed humans. I began to fear that we could get attacked by some wild animal or some giant snake or something even worse, but my abductors carried on, unaware of my fears."If I were you I'd get mi som res missy" Horace, the big man said after a while, raising his gaze from the arrowhead he was sharpening to look at me. "The journey is still far.""Who are you" I asked, "and where are you taking me?""I wish I could answer that, missy buh I con't" he then puffed onto the arrowhead and tried fitting it on top of a stick while I tried to read the expressions on his face. Which place could possibly exist in this thick and dark forest? There didn't seem to be a sign of life in this place, so where was the journey progressing to? I did not see any trace of human inhabitation or anything."Should I get you sumin ta eat"He asked again, and my stomach growled as if it'd heard him. Yes please" I muttered, wincing at the dry sting in my throat."No!" The man at the front of the carriage said, "you will not give her anything", but the big man ignored his order and placed a dry piece of bread and some water before me."Gobble this up as quick as you can", I wanted to ask how it would be possible for me to eat with my hands cuffed behind my back, but when he started whistling as he returned to what he was doing, I took that as a cue to leave the other man unsuspecting. Tears welled in my eyes at that moment, but after a while of shedding them, I rested my head on my knees and fell asleep.I didn't know how much longer the journey lasted for, but I was jerked out of slumber when a pair of rough hands started pulling my chains. The sharp pain around my leg reverberated through my body and I hurriedly sat up. It was the stoic man, and he was adjusting my chains."Get up" he gruffed as he pulled the chain on my arm, but there was no strength in my legs "are you deaf?" He asked angrily again, and I forced myself to my feet, wincing and gasping as my stiff bones crankled and squeaked within me.When I finally managed to straighten my back,I looked up and saw that we were in front of a dark, gothic and giant castle in the middle of an eerie forest. The atmosphere in the dark was tense and when some wild animal suddenly howled in the distance my heart jerked with fear, making me feel as though I'd been brought to a slaughterhouse ."Move"The burly man said as he nudged me further, and I almost crashed to my feet again."move to where?" I wanted to ask the stoic man but he turned from the carriage and only nudged me forward roughly. As I advance closer to the castle, I couldn't shake the feeling of dread that gripped me. The dark castle loomed before me like a monstrous sentinel, its ancient stone walls whispering secrets of centuries past. The air hung heavy with an eerie stillness, broken only by the distant howls of unseen creatures in the surrounding forest. With another rough shove, the stoic man pushed me towards the massive wooden doors of the castle. My heart pounded in my chest as we crossed the threshold into the dimly lit foyer, where shadows danced ominously against the stone walls. The burly man and a couple of other men placed the body of the dead minister on a brier and took it out of the carriage. The horrible stench of the corpse followed us into the castle, lingering forebodingly.Leading me deeper into the labyrinthine corridors of the castle, the stoic man remained silent, his he
The dungeon,as expected, was dark and foreboding. It had stone walls and stone floors, which had cracks and specks of green moss on them. There are chains, torches and skulls hanging from the walls, creating a sinister atmosphere. The dungeon is dimly lit by wooden torches which cast shadows and glows on the surfaces. The dungeon looked old and the breeze that oozed out of the grey walls was so cold that I wrapped my arms around my shoulders for warmth. "There" Galen grunted as he opened one a small cage and shoved me inside. I fell on the dirty floor with a loud thud but. I ignored the pain in my back and scurried to my feet and ran towards the door but he slammed the iron door shut before I could get to him. "Why are you doing?" I screamed in frustration, I grabbed the railings and started shaking it vigorously "you can't keep me here,I haven't done anything wrong""Oh really" Galen asked, twisting his lips into mocking smirk "you think you don't deserve to be in here?" "I have s
The attic grew beautiful everyday and warmer every night, to be honest whose home wouldn't? and the attic was mine. The attic was my home, my lair and my homeland. I practically grew up in the attic and my tiny universe revolved around it. My first memories were made in the attic, with walls with which I'd gotten familiar, the stale breeze I've grown to like and the bland, stuffy surroundings. The old items and unused stuff were my family,my audience. Why did I grow up in the attic?Well it was where they hid me, yes, they hid me away. No other eyes must see me,no other soul must know of my existence and why again? Some said I was too beautiful, that's a funny thing to say but not every female werewolf had silver hair, or eyes that looked like the moon. I was rare, so I was told but there was much more to my story eventhough I wished there wasn't. "Venus!" Lunar Bayle's shrill voice as hard knocking sounds came on my door, the door of the attic and the blood drained from my face in
I watched him take giant strides to the centre of the attic from my hiding place"Where are you Venus" he grunted and I hurriedly crouched out of my hiding place. "Here I am Uncle" I stuttered and turned my gaze to the floor"And what did you just call me?" He asked angrily and I looked up to behold anger and hatred in his eyes "Are you deaf?" He asked and he began to advance towards me "no Uncle" I stuttered moving backwards as he began to close in on me "and what did you say again" I let out a sharp gasp as my back suddenly hit the wall "tell me!' he yelled and my heart almost jumped out of my chest "How dare you call me your uncle" the question came as a shock to me but as I searched my head for an answer he suddenly gripped my neck and pushed me hard against the wall"I am not your uncle"he said slowly, clenching his teeth and tightening his grip around my neck "I hate you with each drop of blood in my veins,I hate you so much I could rip you in pieces,my hatred for you is so raw
I succeeded in finishing up my chores before the nobles arrived. But at the time the park meeting was about to begin, Edaleen and Franshia still hadn't arrived and when I overheard Lunar lying to Alpha Lucius that she'd sent the two girls on an errand, I knew something crazy was about to happen.I had no business with Edaleen and Franshia since they actually disliked me the most and so I didn't worry about them. After I returned to the attic,I took my bath, had my breakfast and settled to read the novel I succeeded in sneaking out of the library that morning. I got engrossed in the book and read it for two hours before falling asleep. But I woke up to loud cries and yelling from the living room. I rubbed my eyes open, immediately sprang off the bed and made out of the attic into my hiding place where I got a good view of the living room. Exactly as I suspected Edaleen and Franshia had arrived but they weren't lucky to have settled in the instant they came into the house, the Alpha c
"Are you still going to help me" Edaleen's voice cut into my thoughts and I nodded slowly"Thank you very much Venus. I'll try and make my parents treat you better as from now on, I'll tell them to let you go to learn a trade or find you a suitable husband, thank you"I nodded slowly again and she handed a black hoodie to me"Wear this and lower your head as you walk, when you get to the club,go straight to the counter and ask for Damon, he'll hand you the package, come home straight afterwards, don't stop at anywhere or talk to anybody. Remember, what would happen if my father discovers that you left the house, please don't blow our cover""Sure thing Edaleen, I'll be careful" she rose to her feet and gestured for me to do the same, the uneasy look on her face was still there but she's managed to suppress it. She handed me a piece of paper after she positioned the hoodie around my neck"This is the address,I know you're intelligent enough to understand, you should be back in thirty m
I was very happy Edaleen believed the reason I told her for arriving late the previous night and I could as well say I was lucky because she didn't act like she suspected that anything went wrong with last night. But I couldn't sleep throughout the night, I kept having nightmares about when I was being chased and that only reminded me of my misfortune, my huge secret. Regardless of the headache the sleepless night made me feel and the terrible pains I was feeling in my legs I woke up the next morning and started doing my chores before madam came to wake up with a bucket of cold water like she usually did some mornings when I wasn't able to wake up early. After sweeping the wide living room I decided to wash the council meeting room and save the children's room for last but cleaning the council hall wasn't as easy as I'd expected as the pains in my legs and back weakened me. It wasn't almost impossible for me to get on my fours and scrubbing back and forth on the floor while crawling
I eventually passed out as a result of the pain I felt when I slipped and fell but I woke up in on a bed in a fancy room. My wounds had been cleaned up and plastered, the pains I felt in my legs and joints had disappeared, the aching below my back had vanished as well. I blinked sleep away from my eyes and tried to sit on my back but I discovered that an intravenous injection had been inserted into my left wrist. I winced at the stinging pain I felt and laid back on the pillow. My stomach was churning in hunger but I ignored it and looked around the room. It was the biggest room I've ever seen; the walls were painted pink and adorned with rich tapestries and it was decorated with expensive furniture. The floors were covered in plush carpets and the ceiling was decorated with gilded molding along with a glittering chandelier. The four-poster bed I laid in was draped in silk and velvet. It was covered with intricate carvings as well as gold accents. Surrounding the bed, are plush ch
