"move to where?" I wanted to ask the stoic man but he turned from the carriage and only nudged me forward roughly. As I advance closer to the castle, I couldn't shake the feeling of dread that gripped me. The dark castle loomed before me like a monstrous sentinel, its ancient stone walls whispering secrets of centuries past. The air hung heavy with an eerie stillness, broken only by the distant howls of unseen creatures in the surrounding forest.
With another rough shove, the stoic man pushed me towards the massive wooden doors of the castle. My heart pounded in my chest as we crossed the threshold into the dimly lit foyer, where shadows danced ominously against the stone walls. The burly man and a couple of other men placed the body of the dead minister on a brier and took it out of the carriage. The horrible stench of the corpse followed us into the castle, lingering forebodingly.Leading me deeper into the labyrinthine corridors of the castle, the stoic man remained silent, his heavy footsteps echoing in the uncanny silence. Finally, we reached a grand chamber which was bathed in flickering torches. The walls were adorned with ancient tapestries that depicted scenes of darkness and despair. At the far end of the chamber, seated upon a throne-like chair, was a man I construed to be the leader of the kidnappers. He stood tall and slender with a complexion had been bronzed by the sun's rays. But that was all I saw,I couldn't see his face as he wore a black hoodie mask that covered the whole of his face except his nose and mouth. This feature gives him the appearance of a mysterious person and I longed to see what was behind the veil, why was he covering his face? This man's presence exuded an aura of power and menace, and I couldn't help but shiver as I met his gaze."Welcome, graceful royal," he said, his voice low and gravelly, sending shivers down my spine. "I trust your journey was..." He paused and smirked "eventful?"I remained silent, my eyes fixed on the shadowy figure before me, my mind racing with fear and uncertainty. Who was this masked man, and what did he want from me? He didn't wait for me to respond,he turned to Horace and the stoic man and said, "You have outdone yourselves this time. Two royals and a minister, wow I must commend you"The stoic man pulled a quirky smile out of the corners of his lips and transferred his gaze to the floor. I could sense his unease,I could feel him trembling despite his affirmative nodsThe masked man gestured to the brier the dead man was placed on, "Where is the Alpha Prince himself? I want to see him""What Alpha Prince?" I wanted to ask until a subtle realization of what ways going on at that moment hit me. No wonder Horace asked if the boss would be pleased with their catch."Where is the stuck up prince of the werewolf kingdom" the masked man asked loudly and angrily "where is he?"The tension in the air was so thick that it crawled onto my skin like tiny ants. Then a deafening silence clouded the atmosphere and as each second passed by, I felt the masked man's patience turn into anger."Where is the Alpha Prince I asked you to kidnap" he growled and his voice reverberated across the room and shook the building to its roots. For his voice to have such an effect, the hoodie man must have a powerful wolf and I could only shudder. "Answer me Horace" he screamed again and the fear that jerked my heart sent me crashing to my feet "answer me! Where is the Prince I asked you to bring to meeee""The security was too tight your highness" the stoic man confessed, falling face down before the hoodie man who stood aggressively, fuming with undiluted rage "there was no way we could get to him" "We tried everything we could to kidnap him but he was surrounded by many guards""Who is this this then" the hoodie man pointed at me as I sat cold floor with my two hands bound in chains"She's his wife" he answered quickly "she's the new princess and the future queen of the Werewolf kingdom"The hoodie man looked in my direction and sized me up scrutinizingly from head to toe "she's a rare beauty your highness" Horace intervened, raising his head from the ground he also laid flat on,"she's the fairest in the whole land, her silver hair makes her look like a goddess""But will the Prince come looking for her" the man asked,"that's the question here. I need to hold the prince captive so that I'll be able to force the King into signing a treaty with us, you know this or don't you?""We know your highness". Horace answered in a persuasive tone "the prince is madly in love with this lass here. He violated a lot of rules to marry her. I bet he's already on his way here to get her"The man didn't look convinced by those words but he relaxed his nerves and stepped away from the throne "I suggest we write a note and send it to the palace" Horace continued"That's a bad idea. It will only lead the wolf soldiers to our hideout and our soldiers are not strong enough yet" he paused and turned to walk away "you'll return to the kingdom and kidnap the Prince, there is no other way. We need the Prince of the werewolf kingdom, no other person will do!""What will happen to me then" I didn't know where I found the voice but the words escaped from my throat with a distinct loudness and clarity "please set me free""You will be kept in jail until your husband arrives" the masked man answered firmly and coldly, "if he fails to arrive before the week runs out we'll kill you and send your dead body to him in the palace"The blood in my veins dried up instantly and my heart exploded in my chest. Orion would never show up and this man didn't look like someone who would make empty threats"Orion is not my husband anymore" I shouted,"He was never even my husband, he forced himself on me. Everything between us..." a deafening slap landed across my face before I could say another word and my head welled up with weakening vertigo "shut up" he brawled,"Just shut up! Another word from you and I would blow your head off"Behind the anger in stoic man's eyes, was something I couldn't describe. It glowed in his green eyes, sparkles of fear and extreme trepidation but for what reasons? Why?"Leave her alone Galen" the man said, "just take her to the cell and ensure she has no food or water""What!"He didn't turn to look at me "you're not here to live in luxury. Your are here to suffer for the pleasures of the royals"But I've been suffering my whole life, I wanted to yell back but the look on Galen's face froze my tongue up"Take her to dungeon and lock her up"The masked man walked away now and as Galen grabbed me by the shoulder and began to drag me into the inner part of the castle,I couldn't help but envision a dark cloud of sorrow and pain closing in on me.The dungeon,as expected, was dark and foreboding. It had stone walls and stone floors, which had cracks and specks of green moss on them. There are chains, torches and skulls hanging from the walls, creating a sinister atmosphere. The dungeon is dimly lit by wooden torches which cast shadows and glows on the surfaces. The dungeon looked old and the breeze that oozed out of the grey walls was so cold that I wrapped my arms around my shoulders for warmth. "There" Galen grunted as he opened one a small cage and shoved me inside. I fell on the dirty floor with a loud thud but. I ignored the pain in my back and scurried to my feet and ran towards the door but he slammed the iron door shut before I could get to him. "Why are you doing?" I screamed in frustration, I grabbed the railings and started shaking it vigorously "you can't keep me here,I haven't done anything wrong""Oh really" Galen asked, twisting his lips into mocking smirk "you think you don't deserve to be in here?" "I have s
The attic grew beautiful everyday and warmer every night, to be honest whose home wouldn't? and the attic was mine. The attic was my home, my lair and my homeland. I practically grew up in the attic and my tiny universe revolved around it. My first memories were made in the attic, with walls with which I'd gotten familiar, the stale breeze I've grown to like and the bland, stuffy surroundings. The old items and unused stuff were my family,my audience. Why did I grow up in the attic?Well it was where they hid me, yes, they hid me away. No other eyes must see me,no other soul must know of my existence and why again? Some said I was too beautiful, that's a funny thing to say but not every female werewolf had silver hair, or eyes that looked like the moon. I was rare, so I was told but there was much more to my story eventhough I wished there wasn't. "Venus!" Lunar Bayle's shrill voice as hard knocking sounds came on my door, the door of the attic and the blood drained from my face in
I watched him take giant strides to the centre of the attic from my hiding place"Where are you Venus" he grunted and I hurriedly crouched out of my hiding place. "Here I am Uncle" I stuttered and turned my gaze to the floor"And what did you just call me?" He asked angrily and I looked up to behold anger and hatred in his eyes "Are you deaf?" He asked and he began to advance towards me "no Uncle" I stuttered moving backwards as he began to close in on me "and what did you say again" I let out a sharp gasp as my back suddenly hit the wall "tell me!' he yelled and my heart almost jumped out of my chest "How dare you call me your uncle" the question came as a shock to me but as I searched my head for an answer he suddenly gripped my neck and pushed me hard against the wall"I am not your uncle"he said slowly, clenching his teeth and tightening his grip around my neck "I hate you with each drop of blood in my veins,I hate you so much I could rip you in pieces,my hatred for you is so raw
I succeeded in finishing up my chores before the nobles arrived. But at the time the park meeting was about to begin, Edaleen and Franshia still hadn't arrived and when I overheard Lunar lying to Alpha Lucius that she'd sent the two girls on an errand, I knew something crazy was about to happen.I had no business with Edaleen and Franshia since they actually disliked me the most and so I didn't worry about them. After I returned to the attic,I took my bath, had my breakfast and settled to read the novel I succeeded in sneaking out of the library that morning. I got engrossed in the book and read it for two hours before falling asleep. But I woke up to loud cries and yelling from the living room. I rubbed my eyes open, immediately sprang off the bed and made out of the attic into my hiding place where I got a good view of the living room. Exactly as I suspected Edaleen and Franshia had arrived but they weren't lucky to have settled in the instant they came into the house, the Alpha c
"Are you still going to help me" Edaleen's voice cut into my thoughts and I nodded slowly"Thank you very much Venus. I'll try and make my parents treat you better as from now on, I'll tell them to let you go to learn a trade or find you a suitable husband, thank you"I nodded slowly again and she handed a black hoodie to me"Wear this and lower your head as you walk, when you get to the club,go straight to the counter and ask for Damon, he'll hand you the package, come home straight afterwards, don't stop at anywhere or talk to anybody. Remember, what would happen if my father discovers that you left the house, please don't blow our cover""Sure thing Edaleen, I'll be careful" she rose to her feet and gestured for me to do the same, the uneasy look on her face was still there but she's managed to suppress it. She handed me a piece of paper after she positioned the hoodie around my neck"This is the address,I know you're intelligent enough to understand, you should be back in thirty m
I was very happy Edaleen believed the reason I told her for arriving late the previous night and I could as well say I was lucky because she didn't act like she suspected that anything went wrong with last night. But I couldn't sleep throughout the night, I kept having nightmares about when I was being chased and that only reminded me of my misfortune, my huge secret. Regardless of the headache the sleepless night made me feel and the terrible pains I was feeling in my legs I woke up the next morning and started doing my chores before madam came to wake up with a bucket of cold water like she usually did some mornings when I wasn't able to wake up early. After sweeping the wide living room I decided to wash the council meeting room and save the children's room for last but cleaning the council hall wasn't as easy as I'd expected as the pains in my legs and back weakened me. It wasn't almost impossible for me to get on my fours and scrubbing back and forth on the floor while crawling
I eventually passed out as a result of the pain I felt when I slipped and fell but I woke up in on a bed in a fancy room. My wounds had been cleaned up and plastered, the pains I felt in my legs and joints had disappeared, the aching below my back had vanished as well. I blinked sleep away from my eyes and tried to sit on my back but I discovered that an intravenous injection had been inserted into my left wrist. I winced at the stinging pain I felt and laid back on the pillow. My stomach was churning in hunger but I ignored it and looked around the room. It was the biggest room I've ever seen; the walls were painted pink and adorned with rich tapestries and it was decorated with expensive furniture. The floors were covered in plush carpets and the ceiling was decorated with gilded molding along with a glittering chandelier. The four-poster bed I laid in was draped in silk and velvet. It was covered with intricate carvings as well as gold accents. Surrounding the bed, are plush ch
A little while after Franshia left the palace, I learnt that Alpha Lucius lied to the King And Queen that I was only a distant relative of his wife, Lunar Bayle. I actually heard the kitchen maids gosipping it to themselves but that was not all. I also learnt that Alpha Lucius had been trying to thwart the marriage plans by insisting to the royal family that I wasn't fit to be a princess and the future queen; he told the royal Highnesses that his noble daughter had been affianced to the prince and that the only thing I could be was the Prince's mistress. According to him,if the prince felt that he had to possess me at all costs then he should make me his concubine. I wasn't angry at Alpha Lucius for trying to debase me, rather I wished for his plan to work out. I wished that the wedding would be called off and that I would be able to get a chance to escape,I don't want to be married, especially not to a man like Orion. I've lived my whole life in hiding and so my thirst for freedom
