CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

SARA

I woke up in the middle of the night, my body instinctively reaching out for Eden beside me. But the space where he should have been was empty, the sheets cool to the touch.

My heart sank slightly as I realized he wasn’t there. Lately, his late night absences had become more frequent, and each time it happened, I couldn’t help but worry.

After a moment of lying in the quiet, dark room, I decided to check on him. Perhaps he was in his office, poring over the plans to catch the killer that had disrupted our pack’s peace.

I freshened up quickly, splashing cold water on my face to shake off the lingering sleepiness, and then quietly made my way out of the bedroom.

As I walked through the silent corridors, my mind drifted back to Eden’s recent behavior. He had been distant, more so than usual, and though he still showered me with love and care, something felt off.

The nightmares that had been plaguing him weighed heavily in my mind, even though he hadn’t shared it with me.
