CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

ALPHA KING EDEN

I watched with a heavy heart as Sara walked away with Aaron. Every step she took felt like a dagger to my soul, but I remained stoic, my face betraying none of the turmoil raging inside me.

I had kept up the pretense, had to make it look like I didn’t care, like I was indifferent to her pain. It was the only way to protect her, the only way to ensure that she and the unborn child would be safe from the danger looming over the pack.

But the truth was, every moment of this charade was tearing me apart. I had never wanted to hurt her, never wanted to see the light in her eyes dim with sorrow and confusion.

Yet, I knew that if I didn’t play my part, the threat lurking in the shadows might strike, and I couldn’t risk that.

Sara was too precious to me, and our child; the thought of anything happening to them was unbearable.

I had noticed the subtle clues, the strange occurrences and I have some suspects already, but it wasn’t enough to make me wary.
