Daniel's pov

*Twelve years ago*

I didn't understand why we had to leave, it was Maya's birthday, I was meant to give her her gift but as I overhead my father yell at my mother that we had to leave, it seemed like I wouldn't be able to do that.

He was scared of something but I didn't know what it was and what was worse was that he kept yelling at mom.

Mom was crying too, she looked like she was trying to get dad to stop but dad wouldn't.

I wanted to stop it, make him stop making mama cry but I couldn't move, I was too afraid to confront him.

He'd yell back at me, hurt me and I'd probably pee myself and then he'd call me incompetent.

I didn't want him thinking I wasn't a man…

“Young mater Dan, what are you doing here?” my house teachers voice startled.

“Mom and dad are fighting again,” I whispered.
