The guard's eyes locked onto mine, filled with a deep sadness. "You see, ma'am, the beta's anger against rape isn't just about justice. It's personal. And now, with your... situation, he's even more driven to uncover the truth."
I felt a cold creeping all over my body as I realized the gravity of my actions. I had unwittingly dragged the beta's dark past into the spotlight, and now he was more determined than ever to uncover the truth.
The guard's voice brought me back to reality. "Please, ma'am, you must promise me that you won't tell the beta that I told you this. He would never forgive me if he knew that I had shared this with you."
I nodded, still trying to process the weight of the guard's words. I felt like I was trapped in a web of my own making, with no clear escape.
I nodded again, trying to reassure the guard that I would keep his secret. He looked at me with a serious expression, then nodded and unlocked the door.
As he opened the door, I saw the beta standing outside, his eyes fixed intently on me. I felt a bit of fear, wondering if he had overheard our conversation.
The guard stepped aside, allowing the beta to enter. "Alpha's orders, Aurora," he said, his voice formal once again. "I am here to escort you to the alpha's chambers."
I swallowed hard, trying to compose myself. I knew that I had to be careful, that one misstep could lead to disaster. I took a deep breath, then nodded and followed the beta out of the room.
The beta stopped us as he noticed the guard trembling. He stared at him before his eyes narrowed to the guard. "What is wrong with you?" the beta asked.
The guard let out a deep breath before answering, "Nothing, sir." The guard said, pretending as he tried to act normal.
"Then why are you shaking?" the beta asked.
The guard tried to talk, but it was as if his mouth was being held with glue. "Answer me!" the beta demanded. "Or have you suddenly turned mute, or should I start calling you 'mute boy'?" The beta said, turning to me.
The guard was still speechless, not knowing what to say or do at that moment. It was as if the ground had opened and swallowed him. I just stood between them, wondering if the beta had heard our conversation and wanted the guard to use his own mouth to report himself.
"It looks like you're not looking well," the beta said, his face twisted in pity. "How about you take a day off? Don't worry, I would find another guard to follow Miss Aurora for today."
Maybe the beta didn't hear our conversation, I thought to myself. But I didn't think so.
The guard was about to say another word before the beta interrupted him. "That is an order, not a request," the beta yelled.
The guard just bowed his head, with one eye on me.
The guard's eyes met mine for a brief moment, and I could sense a silent plea for help. But I was powerless to intervene, frozen in place by the beta's intimidating presence.
The guard bowed his head, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "Yes, sir," he muttered, before turning and quickly exiting the room.
The beta watched him go, his expression a mixture of concern and suspicion. Then, he turned to me and offered a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Aurora. I'll make sure you're well taken care of. Let's get you to the alpha's chambers."
I nodded, still feeling uneasy about the exchange between the beta and the guard. Had the beta really not overheard our conversation, or was he just playing a clever game of cat and mouse? I couldn't shake the feeling that I was trapped in a delicate web of secrets and lies, with no clear escape.
As we walked to the alpha's chambers, I couldn't help but steal glances at the beta. His expression was calm and collected, but I sensed a underlying tension beneath the surface.
We arrived at the alpha's chambers, and the beta pushed open the door, gesturing for me to enter. I stepped inside, my heart racing with anticipation.
The alpha looked up from his desk, his eyes narrowing as he took in my appearance. "Ah, Aurora," he said, his voice deep and commanding. "I trust you're feeling better?"

The beta hesitated, his eyes darting to me before returning to the alpha. "I believe it would be safer for her, alpha. Given the... circumstances."
The alpha's eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing. "I see," he said, his voice dripping with skepticism. "And what exactly do you know about these circumstances, beta?"
The beta's eyes locked onto the alpha's, a hint of resistance flashing in their depths. "Because of her condition" he said, his voice firm. "And I believe it would be best if she were to stay here, where we can protect her."
The alpha's expression turned thoughtful, his eyes never leaving the beta's face. "I see," he said, his voice measured. "And what makes you think that Aurora is in danger, beta?"
The beta's jaw clenched, his eyes flashing with anger. "Because I've seen the way she's been acting, alpha," he said, his voice low. "She's scared, and she's hiding something. I'm trying to protect her, alpha."
The alpha's eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing. "I appreciate your concern, beta," he said, his voice showing with in interest. "But I think it's time we heard from Aurora herself. Don't you, beta?"
