Chapter 30

Aurora's pov 

Despite pushing the feeling aside, it still kept disturbing me. It just seemed like the more I was trying to find a way out, the more I was multiplying my problems. Adding more lies wasn't the best idea I would have come up with, but the deal had already been done. I would have to face the consequences.

I felt unease as the guilt settled in the pit of my stomach. Every time I thought about the web of lies I had spun, I felt like I was drowning in my own deceit. The beta's words kept echoing in my mind "I'll will find thr rapist no matter what it takes." But what if he didn't? What if the beta saw right through my lies?

I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead as I thought about the possibilities. I had never been a good liar, and now I was trapped in a situation where my lies could have disastrous consequences.

As I walked around the room, I couldn't help but feel like I was walking on thin ice. One wrong move, one misstep, and everything could come crashing down around me.

The guard just stood there, looking totally confused. From his facial expression, he knew there was more to what I told him.

"Is there anything you're not telling me?" the guard asked, placing his hand on the table and waiting for me to write.

I moved backwards, away from my notepad. I wasn't ready to explain further. Writing anything down would make me tell more lies.

The guard's eyes narrowed. "Is there anything more you said to him? And what brought about the rape issue?" He asked. 

He scanned through all the sheets of paper from yesterday's decision between me and the alpha. I rushed at him, grabbing all the sheets from his hand as my hands trembled with fear.

The guard looked at me sorrow. "I'm sorry, ma'am. If you don't feel comfortable about me reading those sheets, I was just trying to help."

He lowered his head in disappointment. I let out a deep breath of relief, looking away from him.

But then the guard spoke up again. "But ma'am, are you sure you don't want to talk about it? I know more about the beta's past because I've worked with him as his personal guard before."

I turned to look at him in surprise. If the guard truly knew the beta well, maybe he could ease my stress and tell me more about why the beta took the rape allegation so seriously. And what about his increasingly intense interest in it? Was it that the beta sent him, and he wanted to get more information from me?

At this point, I was just confused.

I stared at the guard, my mind racing with questions. What did he know about the beta's past? And why was he bringing it up now?

I walk to my notepad and wrote, what do you mean?" I looked at him, trying to play it cool.

The guard leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I mean, the beta's past is... complicated. He's been through a lot, and it's left its scars. But he's a good man, ma'am. He's fiercely loyal and protective of those he cares about."

I felt a cold as the guard's words painted a picture of the beta in my mind. I had always thought of him as just the beta, the second-in-command of the pack. But now, I was starting to see him in a different light.

"What does this have to do with the rape allegation?" I wrote, my curiosity getting the better of me.

The guard hesitated, his eyes darting around the room as if he was checking for eavesdroppers. "Let's just say that the beta has a personal stake in this, ma'am. He's not just investigating this as a matter of duty. He's driven by something deeper."

I felt a chill run down my spine as the guard's words hinted at a darker motive behind the beta's actions. What was driving him? And what did it have to do with the rape allegation?

"Madam, please promise you wouldn't tell the beta what I am about to tell you," the guard said, as he locked the door, putting his ears on the door to listen if any footsteps were approaching. I stood with my notepad tightly in my hand, waiting for him to unveil to me the mystery.

He turned to me, letting out a deep breath before he started talking. "It was a long time ago, back when the beta was a little child, like, let me say, around the age of seven years that he was. He was coming back home from his friend's place, and he was given the shock of his life, which changed him forever. There was a robbery that was going on in the house, but instead of the robbers taking money and leaving, one of them did something crazy in front of him. The robber raped his little sister to death; I think she was around four years of age. That action he witnessed was something he would never forget for life. Now he has become the beta, and he now has power; he put it upon himself to fight against rape," the guard said.

I stood there in shock. What have I done? I couldn't believe my lies, which I told to cover up my past, had brought out someone's dark past.

As I continue standing there, frozen in shock, my notepad trembling in my hand. The guard's words had unveiled a dark and tragic event in the beta's past, one that had left an unfading mark on his life. I felt a wave of guilt all over me as I realized that my lies had brought this painful memory to the surface.
