Chapter 23

The next day, Claire yawned as she stretched her arms on the bed. She looked rather distorted, with her hair flying in all directions. She rubbed her eyes and went into the bathroom.

She put the paste on her toothbrush and scrubbed up and down. She spat the residue in the sink and washed her mouth thoroughly. She packed her rough hair into a ponytail and decided to head downstairs.

As she reached the living room, she found Lucas working on his laptop at the dining table and Darren engrossed in a football match.

"Good morning," she greeted.

"Good morning," Lucas responded from the kitchen.

"Heyo CeeCee!” Darren responded, waving his hands, his eyes fixated on the TV.

Claire's stomach grumbled, she groaned and walked weakly to the fridge. She grabbed an apple and went to sit beside Lucas, folding her legs on the seat.

"How are ya?" Lucas asked, glancing up from his laptop.

"I'm fine. Yeah, I'm fine," Claire replied, taking a huge bite from the apple.

"Are you sure? How are you feeling?"
