Chapter 12 Holding a Funeral

In the meantime, with dense curtains shrouded any semblance of light, the room strewn with cigarette remnants scattered across the floor, enshrouded in a suffocating haze of smoke.

Adonis reclined against the bed, with a scarlet cigarette butt casually beside him. The faint glow from his phone screen illuminated his gaze fixated upon it.

The girl depicted in the photograph beamed radiantly, faint dimples discernible upon closer inspection. She used to say that she looked so dumb that way.

Soon, Adonis's phone shook slightly, prompting him to respond.

"Ado, are you still at home?"

"Yes."

Martha's voice emitted from the other end, narrating a string of concerns. "Stay longer upon your return. Are you aware that Letitia is due to give birth in a few days? She won't be happy to see me and your father. If she inquires about us, assure her of our well-being.

"You know her whereabouts, right? I heard she selected a hospital. You..."
