Chapter 10 A Fatherless Child or Not

I didn't know what Arvin was thinking. I sat bored on the tree trunk, idly staring at the door of my home. I had looked out the window earlier and had only seen Adonis. There was no one else in the house.

Thinking about the old man's mention of a trip, I knew it made sense. My father had a weak heart. If he knew about my death, it was highly likely that he couldn't withstand it. Adonis had probably lied to them and convinced them to have this trip.

I couldn't help but curl my lips at the thought of them probably having fun in some city somewhere.

Arvin had a broken leg. When the driver was about to arrive, he asked timidly if they should go to the hospital first.

After Arvin got his leg bandaged and returned home, he saw the warm yellow light in the living room. His Adam's apple rolled, and he looked hopefully towards the kitchen.

Debby was cutting fruit. Upon hearing the door open, she turned around, smiling gently. "You're back."
