Chapter 4

The call rang until it automatically disconnected because no one answered on the other end.

Knowing that I usually answered his calls by the second ring, Calvin felt an uneasy tension growing in his heart. He turned to his team and informed them, "I'm going up to check on her."

Just as I was hoping he would soon discover my death, Charlotte suddenly crouched down with a pained cry.

At once, he changed course. With a few quick steps, he came to her side and scooped her up.

"Is your leg hurting again? You silly woman, I told you to rest up at home, but you insisted on tagging along, didn't you? Let me take you to the hospital."

In that split second, he seemed to have forgotten about my whole existence. Without the slightest hesitation, he left with Charlotte in his arms.

"Calvin, aren't you going to check on Heather?"

"She's fine. As they say, the devil looks after his own. She'll be fine. I'm sure I have time to take Lottie to the hospital first."

He left in long strides, never
