My father lay against my lifeless body and shed silent tears. It was my very first time seeing him so vulnerable.

This was all my fault—I'd left him to bear the pain of burying his own daughter.

A police officer approached and informed them, "Please have our condolences. The autopsy report shows that the deceased was two months pregnant."

Cynthia took a sharp intake of breath and collapsed to the ground.

My father hastily wiped his tears and demanded, "Where is Calvin Keane? My daughter is dead—where is he?"

Cynthia replied with a trembling voice, "I'll call him right now."

After countless calls, Calvin finally picked up. His voice was full of grogginess as he spoke, "Mom, what's the matter?"

Cynthia could no longer hold back her anger. She shouted into the phone, "Get down to the police station immediately, or your father and I are disowning you!"

After hanging up, she turned to my father, visibly remorseful. "Mr. Shea, our family has wronged you."
