Regan’s POV

One advantage of my mate finally having a wolf and being able to have a strong bond with her was that I could feel her emotions.

As she walked away from the room, the most dominant emotion I could feel from her was fear. And that fear was not for herself.

As everyone else watched her leave, I ran a hand over my face and took in a deep breath.

“It must be so hard for her”, I heard Nana say and turned to her. “But she has to understand that the prophecy must be fulfilled”, she said. “She must accept it”, she told me.

“Enough”, I said quietly but firmly, drawing the attention of the other occupants in the room. “Just this morning, she has found out that she is from the Royal bloodline and could possibly be in danger”, I told them. “And as if that was not enough, she just found out that she is with child. A child that an evil vampire King and mad witch will stop at nothing to try to destroy”, I reminded them. “So you will excuse her if she does not wish to accept that both her life and that of her pup will be in danger”, I said firmly, turning a hard glare on Nana and Gaia.

“And you will give her all the time she needs in order to accept this grave news”, I told them. “Am I understood?”

Nana immediately bowed her head in submission.

“Yes, Alpha”, she said, her head hanging in shame.

Gaia simply nodded. “We understand”, she said.

I rose to my feet and began to make my way out of the room before coming to a stop on hearing Lena approaching me, most likely wanting to come with me to help comfort my mate.

I turned to see the worry in her eyes and could not help moving to gently stroke her hair.

“I know that you are worried as well”, I told her. “But allow me try to comfort her this time”, I requested. “I should probably learn to start doing so without you, seeing that you will not be with us for much longer”, I said with a smile and a glance to where her mate sat watching.

Although she smiled at my words, there was more sadness than amusement in her smile.

She nodded at my request.

“I will come whenever you need me”, she said, and though I knew she meant in comforting my mate, I also understood the hidden message conveyed in her words.

I gave a smile and moved to place a kiss on her forehead before releasing her and leaving the room.

I hastily made my way to our house, knowing that my mate would probably be crying in our room.

I was not wrong.

I pushed open the door to see her seated on our bed with her knees pulled up to her chest and her arms wrapped around them.

The position was so vulnerable that I felt my heart break at what she was going through.

I made my way over to her side and pulled her into my arms.

Surprisingly, she pushed me away and stood to her feet, walking to the other side of our room.

“Jasmine”, I called softly, standing to my feet.

“No!” She snapped at me, furiously turning to face me with her tear stained cheeks.

“I know that you believe them”, she accused. “I know you agree with everything they said so do not come here and try to act otherwise”, she said, wrapping her arms protectively over her stomach.

Surprisingly, I understood exactly what she was doing.

She was doing what I always did to Luke, though unconsciously. And I did not mind in the least.

“Calm yourself, my love”, I pleaded. “If not for your sake then at least for our pup”, I said.

“Don’t pretend you care about us!” She yelled. “They said those things and you sat there calmly and believed every word they said”, she accused. “Or did you not hear them?” She asked. “They said there are creatures out there that want to harm our pup. That want him dead!” She cried before a sob broke out.

I eliminated the distance between us and pulled her into my arms as she dissolved into sobs.

That was her greatest fear.

Not that she was in danger, but that our pup was.

She sobbed as I held her in my arms, holding tightly onto me.

“I-I don’t want t-to be s-special”, she cried. “I d-don’t want to b-be of Royal b-blood”, she said. “I just want you and our pup. I do not even care if I don’t have a wolf anymore”, she said.

I held her tightly and rocked her.

“I know, love”, I said and led us to the bed to sit until she had calm down.

“I am afraid, Regan”, she whispered after a while. “I am so terrified”, she confessed.

“I know”, I told her before pulling away so I could see her face. “Look at me”, I requested.

She slowly brought her eyes up to look at my face.

“I swear upon the Moon Goddess”, I told her. “That I will never let anyone harm you or our pup. I will die before I allow that happen”, I said solemnly.

She gave a sad smile.

“And that is the very thing I am afraid of”, she said. “That I would loose either one of you, and that it will be all my fault”.

I frowned at her words and brought my hand up to hold her face.

“None of this is your fault”, I told her firmly.

“But it is”, she said, her eyes starting to water again. “I am the one who carries the curse. I am the one who is going to cause a war. I am the reason our pup will be in danger”, she said.

“Enough!” I snapped unconsciously.

It worked because she stopped saying those ridiculous things.

“This is not your fault”, I told her. “And you certainly do not carry a curse. You are a blessing. You always have been. And not just to me, but to Nana, Lena and even Luke”, I said and saw a small smile appear on her face. “This pack is blessed to have you. You are a blessing from the Moon Goddess to me and all werewolves that exist”, I told her as I stared deep into her blue eyes.

“I know you are afraid”, I said. “I am as well”, I confessed. “But if it is true and you are the prophesy, do you not see what it could mean for every werewolf in the realm?” I asked her. “No more attacks or massacres among packs. It would mean peace. More importantly, that our Pup will grow up in a peaceful world”, I told her. “It would mean unity. A home for all who have none”, I said. “It would mean hope”.

She looked at me like she had never considered that before.

“Hope”, she repeated, looking as if she was finally seeing something for the first time.

“You do not have to accept it now”, I told her, tenderly stroking her hair. “Take as much time as you need. You have my word that no one would trouble you”, I vowed. “And I will always be by your side to face everything with you, no matter what”.

She smiled at my words, reaching out a hand to stroke my cheek.

“I do not deserve you”, she whispered with a smile.

I smiled at that. “On the contrary, it is I who does not deserve you”, my smile turned teasing as I continued. “After all, you are of Royal Blood”, I said.

She laughed at that, and I felt relief course through me at the sound of her laughter.

I brought our foreheads to touch.

“Have I ever told you how bewitching you look when you laugh?” I asked her with a smile.

“Only when I laugh?”, she asked, her blue eyes finally sparkling again.

“Especially when you laugh”, I said and bent my head to rain kisses all over her neck, causing her to giggle.

Through our bond, I could barely feel her fear any longer. I felt her happiness and love through our bond that warmed my heart in a way only she could.

“I cannot believe we’re having a pup”, she said after recovering from her mirth.

A wide smile appeared on my face at that and I planted a kiss on her lips.

“I thank you”, I said, with gratitude straight from my heart.

She smiled at that. “What for?” She asked.

“For coming into my life and making all my wishes come true”, I told her sincerely.

She scoffed and turned to rest her back against my chest, allowing me hold her weight and I wrapped my arms around her, tenderly caressing her stomach where our pup was.

“I should be the one to thank you”, she said. “Until I met you, I had never truly been loved”, she said and I wished I could see her face. “I had always been alone, abandoned if you will call it that”, she shared.

It was the first time she had chosen to talk to me about such things, rather than Lena who was her greatest confidant, so I sat silently and let her speak.

“The only time I remember my mother is in my dreams”, she said. “She always urged me to find my mate in them. So when I found Tyler, I thought I had finally found someone who would love me as I was”, she paused for a brief moment as if recalling a memory. “But we both know how that turned out”, she said with a small laugh that made me smile. “And then I came here, and I found you, and Nana, and Lena, and Amy, and Mari, and Emry, and even Luke”, she said and I laughed.

“Who is Amy?” I had to ask.

She turned her neck to look at me.

“Emry’s sister”, she said and I stared at her blankly. “The young she-wolf that always assists me”, she described and an image of a young, unsmiling, quiet girl with black hair immediately came to my mind.

“She’s Emry’s sister?” I asked in surprise.

Jasmine nodded. “They do not seem like it but are quite close”, she said before going on. “None of you ever made me feel less than anyone else simply because I did not have a wolf”, she said and turned in my arms so that she could properly face me.

“Do you know the moment I started to fall in love with you?” She asked suddenly.

I shook my head because I sincerely did not know.

She smiled a beautiful smile that made my heart beat double.

“It was the first time we met”, she said. “I was so afraid of you”, she said and let out a laugh. “I could barely look you in the eye”, she said.

I smiled as the memory of that day played in my head. “I remember”, I said.

“Do you remember what you said when I told you I did not have a wolf?” She asked.

I tried to recollect that memory in particular but could not remember what I had said.

I shook my head.

She smiled. “Precisely”, she said. “You said nothing”, she told me. “You did not even care enough to ask any questions about it. You simply did not care that I did not have a wolf”, she said.

I frowned in confusion.

“Was I supposed to care that you did not have a wolf?” I asked.

Rather than respond, she simply smiled and turned around to resume her position with her back to my chest.

“You will protect us?”she asked, her hands coming over mine on her stomach.

“Always”, I vowed.

She said nothing and simply nodded, as I felt the last of her fears disappear.

Jasmine’s POV To my surprise, Regan had succeeded in her yelling my fears. Granted, the thought of an evil vampire King and a mad treacherous witch seeking to kill both me and my unborn pup was one that left me terrified. But there was a big difference. This time, I was not alone. I had my mate, my wolf, my friends turned family and my pack, all on my side. That brought me relief beyond words. After spending time with my mate for a while, Lena came up to check on me. “How do you feel?” She asked, climbing onto my bed to sit beside me and put her arms around me. I smiled at the obvious concern in her eyes. “Sincerely, I am terrified”, I told her. She looked at me closely for a short moment. “Forgive me dearest but you do not look the least bit terrified to me”, she said, making me laugh. “Truly”, she said, smiling. “You looked quite scared earlier when the news was broken to us, but now you look quite well”, she said. I recovered from my laughter but smiled

Regan’s POV I knew for a fact that Jasmine was uncomfortable with all the attention she was getting. News of her being of the Royal bloodline had spread throughout out the pack and our pack members started to treat her with something akin to worship. Unfortunately, my made was not fond of such attention. She especially did not like having to start a meal before everyone else. She often argued that since I was her mate, it was certain that I should be accorded the same respect. I always reminded her that unlike her, I did not have a drop of Royal blood. Okay hitch was not entirely true since Alphas were known to be descendants from the Royal bloodline. Though not direct descendants that had claim to the throne like my mate. After our evening meal, she had asked for a private meeting with Nana and Gaia where I had later learned she had apologized for how she had walked out on them the last time. According to Lena, who had been privileged to be present, they had gracious

Jasmine’s POV It took only one look at my mate’s face for me to know that something was troubling him. Although he smiled throughout the evening meal and tried to act like all was well, all I had to do was reach into our bond to confirm my suspicion that something was on his mind. So, in an attempt to exhibit the virtue of patience, I waited until after the meal, when we were in the safety and privacy of our room before I asked him about it. “Something clearly troubles you, love”, I said, borrowing the term of endearment that he used for me from time to time. “Will you not tell me what it is?” I asked. He smiled before moving over to sit on the bed. I moved with him, taking a seat beside him on the bed. “It is nothing you need to trouble yourself about”, he said, and tried to divert my attention by leaning down to kiss my neck. In as much as I welcomed his advances and craved his touch, I knew that whatever was on his mind would be something too important to ignore.

Jasmine’s POV The day I had been dreading finally came. I woke up once again to an empty bed. Since that was not anything new, I simply readied myself for the day before making my way out of the room. I joined Lena in the kitchen of our house and together, we prepared breakfast. Nana was absent, as she usually was due to Gaia’s presence, and Regan’s Gamma and his mate had moved out to live in a small cabin of their own not to far away from the pack house after having their pup. Since our house had several more rooms, Gaia and Alpha Gaius were asked to move in since they were going to be in our pack longer than they had initially planned. Lena was thrilled with this development, but however pleased I was for her, I could not shake the suspicion that Regan had prepared it all to have me protected at all times. It felt like he had placed people everywhere to protect me in his absence and as much as I loved and appreciated his protective nature, there was only so much e

Regan’s POV Since it was my first time being away from her, I found it somewhat difficult to adapt to the absence of my mate. Rage’s whining was not helping. He felt her absence more than I did since he felt my emotions more intensely. Even though he understood the reason we had to go, it did not stop him from sulking and whining at the absence of our mate. A part of me wanted nothing more than to turn around and return home, but it would be the wrong decision to make and I knew that. So we rode on, keeping a steady pace and rode towards the opposite path from where Blackmoon pack was. The fact that we took an entirely different route simply to avoid them spoke a lot of our hatred for them. We headed towards the next closest pack to us, a pack whose Alpha was an old friend of my father’s. I sent two of my warriors ahead to announce our arrival, and not too long after, they came back with news of the Alpha’s acceptance to have us in his pack. When we met up with a

Regan’s POV By the time a member of Redclaw pack came to escort us to their dining room, Luke had come to terms with the fact that he would have to face his mate, whether he liked it or not. I knew he was eager for answers to finally uncover the mystery behind his brother’s death. And so was I. But unlike Luke, I had a greater desire than that of getting answers. That desire was to see Luke finally happy, with his mate. I had always been able to read people easily, or at least feel their aura. From just our one meeting, I could tell that Luke’s mate, Zara, was not an evil person. Simply a protective and suspicious one. As we arrived at the dining room, we were ushered to our seats. Seated at the head chair of the dining table was who I knew was the Alpha of the pack, simply because of the aura I perceived from him. He looked frail and I could easily tell that he would not last too much longer. His daughter was seated to his right, and other ranked members of his p

Jasmine’s POV Since I had no choice in the matter, I took amusement from wherever I could. At the moment, the amusement I derived from the expression of disbelief on the face of my former mate was one that brought me immense satisfaction indeed. He remained standing in the same spot since he had seen me, with his Beta beside him. “So it is true then?” He asked again, the disbelief suddenly giving way to an emotion I did not quickly realize. “She has already said that it is”, Lena replied hotly from where she way seated. He finally broke his gaze away from mine to shoot her a heated glare. “And who might you be?” He asked with a threatening growl. Before I could open my mouth to warn him to not speak that way to her, her mate, whose hand remained possessively on her shoulder, spoke. “She is my mate”, Alpha Gaius said, the warning clear in his tone and the brief flickering of his eyes that warned that his wolf was not so far from the surface, ready to attack any threat

Regan’s POV It did not take us long to arrive at Redclaw pack once my request to be accepted into the pack was granted. A part of me had thought it would have been rejected and was quite satisfied with that since it meant Luke would be spared the emotional torture the meeting might turn out to be for him. All the same, he rode beside me with a straight face, obviously deep in his thoughts that I did not dare intrude upon. A part of me suddenly wished we had not come with horses. It meant our quest would have been faster in a sense. We could have run in our wolf forms to arrive at the packs we had to visit. However, three concerns had made me decide otherwise. The first was that we had planned to visit several packs, which meant we had to come with a lot of gifts for each pack we visited, hence why we had to bring along two carts. Running in our wolf form meant we would have had to carry all those tributes and gifts and would have left us exhausted very quickly, especi

Jasmine’s POV After my judgment on the mother and daughter who had lied against Amy, I noticed that members of my pack began to treat me differently. And not in a bad way. If they had treated me with anything close to respect, due to the fact that I was their Alpha’s mate, they now treated me with respect and admiration. Lena had ensured that my sentences on the mother and daughter were carried out. More than anyone, she had been proud of how I had handled the case and took great joy in narrating the occurrence in great detail to Nana and Mari, who had been disappointed that they had not been present to witness the even for themselves. Amy and Emry’s mother, who worked closely alongside Nana at the healing house was full of thanks, even going as far as shedding a few tears, to express her gratitude for how I had come to her daughter’s rescue.
