Jasmine’s POV
Everything Gaia said came as a shock to me. I still found it really difficult to wrap my head around the fact that I was from the Royal bloodline. The story she told of the four sisters sounded like a tale and honestly, far fetched. But it did explain a lot. Since I was never educated and no one ever bothered to tell me anything about our origin, Gaia’s story was the closest I had ever gotten to a lesson of our history. Still, a question stood out for me, one I did not hesitate to voice out. “But if Alaric and Arwyn wiped out the Royal bloodline over a century ago, why do we still have to be afraid of them?” I asked. “They must be dead by now”, I pointed out in case someone missed it. “Precisely”, Lena said from where she was seated on her mate’s lap with his arms around her. “Is it their descendants we should be worried about?” She asked. Gaia shook her head sadly. “There is more to my story”, she said. “As I had said earlier, the Goddess of Darkness stole a secret from her mother and made her children live long. This secret was passed down through generations of vampires. It is also the reason that vampires have the longest lifespan than any other creatures of the realms”, she said. “However, the lifespan extends with their consumption of the life force of other creatures. Alaric has been alive for centuries. And in exchange for her help, he made Arwyn an offer so tempting she could not refuse”, she said. “He offered her the secret to his immortality”, she said. I felt my blood run cold at the meaning behind her words. “Does that mean that she is still alive?” I whisper in a low tone. Slowly, Gaia nodded her head. “She is”, she said to leave no doubt. “And from the words she spoke in your dream, I believe she already knows of your existence”, she said as Regan wrapped his arms around me tightly. “And if she knows of your existence, then so will Alaric”, she said finally. I shivered at her words, seeing the fear in her eyes as well. “He will come for me?” I asked in whisper. She nodded. “And your unborn pup”, she affirmed. A sob escaped me before I realized that I was crying. Regan pulled me into his arms completely, wrapping me in his warmth that did only little to ease the chill making its way into my heart. It did not help that I could also feel his fear, and that made me all the more afraid. That my powerful, fearless mate would be scared of Gaia’s words told me that he must have heard of Alaric and believed Gaia’s words to be true. “Is there nothing that can be done?” I heard Nana ask as I held onto my mate tightly. Gaia was quiet for a while before she finally spoke. “I had a dream last night”, she said. “A vision if you will call it that”, she told us all. “The question you should all have asked is why does Alaric want to wipe out the the Royal bloodline of the werewolves?” She said before turning to Nana with a smile. “The answer was revealed to me last night”, she said. Nana came closer to her and bent to sit beside her chair. “That means there must be a way to save them”, she said. Gaia nodded. “A very narrow way”, she said. “But a way nonetheless”. “Tell me of your dream, my friend”, Nana urged. Gaia nodded. “Before Alaric’s attack, the werewolf realm thrived under the rule of the then werewolf King, Johan WhiteMoon”, she said. “The entire werewolf kingdom was his pack and though every pack had an Alpha, he was the Alpha King. We grew and thrived under his reign, so much so that we became the greatest race in the realm”, she turned to Nana. “I saw him”, she said. “And I saw the man that the Earth Goddess sculpted”, she said and leaned forward. “It was the same person”, she revealed. Nana gasped and drew back in shock at Gaia’s words. “How could that be?” Nana asked after recovering. “It was told that the Goddess of Darkness killed him”, she reminded. Gaia nodded. “She did”, she said and went on. “But you forget that that man was the father of all the races, and he had a soul, and sometimes, souls are reincarnated”, she said. “So when King Johan was born and grew to be the spitting image of the first creation, you can imagine the surprise the sisters must have felt. They all took an oath never to meddle in the affairs of their descendants but allow the Goddess of fate handle it all. So what were the chances of King Johan, who was born by a half-witch descendant of the Earth Goddess, being the reincarnation of the first man?” She asked and my confusion grew. “I will tell you the answer”, she said and looked straight at me. “The sisters broke their oath”, she said. “Wars had broken out between their descendants and the descendants of the Goddess of Darkness. They learned of their sister’s deceit of stealing the secret to make her descendants live longer. Not to mention that vampires were feeding on the descendants of the other three sisters and reducing their race in the process. So if the Goddess of Darkness did not play fair, the other sisters did not see why they had to keep their oath any longer”, she told. “The Moon Goddess and the Earth Goddess had secretly gone to the Goddess of souls and asked for the soul of their mate to be reincarnated. That was how King Johan was born”, she said. “But the two sisters had broken their oath and gone against their father’s orders. They were punished and forbidden from meddling in matters concerning their descendants. But they were not the only ones who broke the oath, they were just the only ones caught”, she told. “Johan was strong and powerful, and the Goddess of Darkness knew the only way to rid her self of him and his family was through her descendants. But they would not be enough to get rid of Johan. So she possessed one of the twins of a powerful witch from a direct line of the Earth Goddess, knowing there was nothing stopping her from doing so any longer . When the children were born, one had light hair and the other had dark hair, but the twin girls had something in common”, she said. “They both had silver eyes. The twins were My grandmother Aran and her sister Arwyn”. “I had always wondered about that but my vision last night finally revealed the answer”, she said. “There was a prophesy after King Johan’s death that he would be reincarnated”, she said, a light in her eyes. “It was said that his rebirth would bring the end of Alaric’s reign and the unification of all race once again. It was also said that his mother would bear the mark of the Royal bloodline”. At her words, I felt all eyes turn to me. Gaia smiled. “That is why Alaric wiped out the Royal bloodline”, she said. “He was trying to prevent King Johan’s rebirth”, she burst out laughing all of a sudden. “It all makes sense now”, she said to no one in particular. “Alaric has been searching for years to make sure that King Johan is not reborn. It is why he will try to kill you and your unborn pup”, she said to me. “And why is that amusing?” Regan asked grumpily from beside me. “Do you not see?” She asked. “The reason your wolf and mark were hidden all along” She said looking at me. “The reason you could not gain access to your wolf until you completed the mating ritual. The reason Arwyn visited your dream”, she said. “It is all because the prophesy is finally coming to pass”. She turned to Nana and began to recite. “Where the mark of Royal blood resides”, she quoted. “There, the King of werewolves shall abide”, she said. Nana gasped and brought a hand to her mouth, her other hand grabbing onto one of Gaia’s tightly. “Truly?” She managed to choke out, her eyes glistening with tears. Gaia nodded. “The prophesy will finally be fulfilled”, she said and they both turned to look at me as I stared back at them in confusion. “I do not understand”, I finally said, unable to wrap my head around their confusing tales. Nana removed the hand on her mouth and reached out to take one of my hand in hers. “It is the prophesy”, she said, looking at me like I was something extraordinary. “You are the prophesy”, she said. I shook my head. “I still do not understand”, I said honestly. “Jasmine”, I heard Lena call my name and turned to see her looking at me the same way. “Have you never heard of the prophesy?” She asked. I had in fact heard moonlight stories of the prophesy, but like every story told to young werewolves and pups, I had believed them merely to be for amusement. I nodded. “The prophesy says that the werewolf King will be born again”, she said and I nodded, remembering that much. “I believe what Gaia and Nana are trying to say, is that you are the one to give birth to our King”, she said, tears slinging down her cheek. “You already carry him”, she said. I looked from her, to the other faces in the room before finally looking at my mate. Regan’s face was unreadable. So, I tried to feel his emotions instead. The fear was still there, but it was not as bold as it had been moments before. Alongside the fear was the strong feeling of determination, protectiveness, pride and love. I could tell that my mate completely believed Gaia no Nana’s words. And like every werewolf who had heard of the tale of the prophesy, he was ready to die to protect our unborn pup, and not just as his father. “This means there is hope”, Nana said and I turned back to look at her. “Knowing what we now know, we would not be alone”, she said. “Once the other packs hear of you, they will come to see if it is really true”, Gaia said. “We will show them your wolf and your mark”, she said with a smile. “And if they still doubt it”, Nana said. “They will only need to catch the scent of our little one to know that the prophesy is finally coming to pass”, she said. “That is all you will need, to raise the army against Alaric”, Gaia said. “The packs are already pledged to protect the Royal bloodline”, she told me. “So all we will need to do is call a meeting with the council of elders to summon all the Alphas. Once that is done and they are informed about you and your pup, they will bring their packs together to stand and fight against Alaric and his bloodsuckers”, she said. “But we will need the help of the witches as well”, Nana said. “Leave that to me”, Gaia said. “I could have a letter delivered to my cousin in the West before nightfall. Once she hears about this, she will gather as many witches as she can find to help stand for our cause”, she said. “Fate willing, we might just win this fight”, she said. “Enough!” I snapped without realizing. I had heard and had enough. I pulled Regan’s arms away from me and stood to my feet. “There will be no fight”, I said firmly. “There will be no war”, I told them as they all stared at me. “I am not who you think I am”, I said. “I am not special, I am not a prophesy”, I could feel the tears sting my eyes as I spoke. “I am just a she-wolf who has finally gotten all she has ever wished for”, I said. “My mate, my wolf…”, my voice trailed of before I could say the last words. “And my pup”, I finally managed to choke out. “And I want nothing else”. With that said, I walked away.Regan’s POV One advantage of my mate finally having a wolf and being able to have a strong bond with her was that I could feel her emotions. As she walked away from the room, the most dominant emotion I could feel from her was fear. And that fear was not for herself. As everyone else watched her leave, I ran a hand over my face and took in a deep breath. “It must be so hard for her”, I heard Nana say and turned to her. “But she has to understand that the prophecy must be fulfilled”, she said. “She must accept it”, she told me. “Enough”, I said quietly but firmly, drawing the attention of the other occupants in the room. “Just this morning, she has found out that she is from the Royal bloodline and could possibly be in danger”, I told them. “And as if that was not enough, she just found out that she is with child. A child that an evil vampire King and mad witch will stop at nothing to try to destroy”, I reminded them. “So you will excuse her if she does not wish to accept th
Jasmine’s POV To my surprise, Regan had succeeded in her yelling my fears. Granted, the thought of an evil vampire King and a mad treacherous witch seeking to kill both me and my unborn pup was one that left me terrified. But there was a big difference. This time, I was not alone. I had my mate, my wolf, my friends turned family and my pack, all on my side. That brought me relief beyond words. After spending time with my mate for a while, Lena came up to check on me. “How do you feel?” She asked, climbing onto my bed to sit beside me and put her arms around me. I smiled at the obvious concern in her eyes. “Sincerely, I am terrified”, I told her. She looked at me closely for a short moment. “Forgive me dearest but you do not look the least bit terrified to me”, she said, making me laugh. “Truly”, she said, smiling. “You looked quite scared earlier when the news was broken to us, but now you look quite well”, she said. I recovered from my laughter but smiled
Regan’s POV I knew for a fact that Jasmine was uncomfortable with all the attention she was getting. News of her being of the Royal bloodline had spread throughout out the pack and our pack members started to treat her with something akin to worship. Unfortunately, my made was not fond of such attention. She especially did not like having to start a meal before everyone else. She often argued that since I was her mate, it was certain that I should be accorded the same respect. I always reminded her that unlike her, I did not have a drop of Royal blood. Okay hitch was not entirely true since Alphas were known to be descendants from the Royal bloodline. Though not direct descendants that had claim to the throne like my mate. After our evening meal, she had asked for a private meeting with Nana and Gaia where I had later learned she had apologized for how she had walked out on them the last time. According to Lena, who had been privileged to be present, they had gracious
Jasmine’s POV It took only one look at my mate’s face for me to know that something was troubling him. Although he smiled throughout the evening meal and tried to act like all was well, all I had to do was reach into our bond to confirm my suspicion that something was on his mind. So, in an attempt to exhibit the virtue of patience, I waited until after the meal, when we were in the safety and privacy of our room before I asked him about it. “Something clearly troubles you, love”, I said, borrowing the term of endearment that he used for me from time to time. “Will you not tell me what it is?” I asked. He smiled before moving over to sit on the bed. I moved with him, taking a seat beside him on the bed. “It is nothing you need to trouble yourself about”, he said, and tried to divert my attention by leaning down to kiss my neck. In as much as I welcomed his advances and craved his touch, I knew that whatever was on his mind would be something too important to ignore.
Unknown POV. She stood before a large window, over looking the blizzard outside the castle. It was nothing new for the weather to be like that. It was often cold down there. It was one thing she missed about home. The endless warmth of spring that allowed her wear the lightest clothes. Her beautiful sewn clothes had always been one of the latest fashion and accentuated her curves. Unlike the coat she wore at the moment. Ever since coming there, she had been forced to wear thick coats and clothes in order to ward off the cold. No one had forced her, the dreary weather had done that all by itself and she hated it. It was constantly snowing and she missed the warmth is spring back at home. Her red lips curled in a humorless smile. Home. When had she ever had one? If she ever did, it was surely gone now. Everyone back there now saw her as a traitor anyway, and they were not particularly wrong about that. But then again, everyone she remembered bqck then were pro
Jasmine’s POV The day I had been dreading finally came. I woke up once again to an empty bed. Since that was not anything new, I simply readied myself for the day before making my way out of the room. I joined Lena in the kitchen of our house and together, we prepared breakfast. Nana was absent, as she usually was due to Gaia’s presence, and Regan’s Gamma and his mate had moved out to live in a small cabin of their own not to far away from the pack house after having their pup. Since our house had several more rooms, Gaia and Alpha Gaius were asked to move in since they were going to be in our pack longer than they had initially planned. Lena was thrilled with this development, but however pleased I was for her, I could not shake the suspicion that Regan had prepared it all to have me protected at all times. It felt like he had placed people everywhere to protect me in his absence and as much as I loved and appreciated his protective nature, there was only so much e
Regan’s POV Since it was my first time being away from her, I found it somewhat difficult to adapt to the absence of my mate. Rage’s whining was not helping. He felt her absence more than I did since he felt my emotions more intensely. Even though he understood the reason we had to go, it did not stop him from sulking and whining at the absence of our mate. A part of me wanted nothing more than to turn around and return home, but it would be the wrong decision to make and I knew that. So we rode on, keeping a steady pace and rode towards the opposite path from where Blackmoon pack was. The fact that we took an entirely different route simply to avoid them spoke a lot of our hatred for them. We headed towards the next closest pack to us, a pack whose Alpha was an old friend of my father’s. I sent two of my warriors ahead to announce our arrival, and not too long after, they came back with news of the Alpha’s acceptance to have us in his pack. When we met up with a
Jasmine’s POV It was hard to cope with Regan and Luke’s absence. Especially that of my mate. I prayed so much more than I usually did for the success of their mission and for their safe return home. Concerning things at the pack, I did not have much to worry about. Regan had done an incredible work of preparing all that I would need in his absence. As he had earlier said before leaving, his Gamma handled the day to day routine and managed quite well, only coming to me when my guidance or authority was required. And I was not required much. With everything else, Nana and Lena never left my side. Always ready with help or advice whenever I would need it. Their presence made the absence of my mate bearable. Gaia had decided to check on me and the pup each day, to know if there was any immediate threat against us and how to avert it. It eased my worries each time she told me everything was well. Regan’s POV By the time a member of Redclaw pack came to escort us to their dining room, Luke had come to terms with the fact that he would have to face his mate, whether he liked it or not. I knew he was eager for answers to finally uncover the mystery behind his brother’s death. And so was I. But unlike Luke, I had a greater desire than that of getting answers. That desire was to see Luke finally happy, with his mate. I had always been able to read people easily, or at least feel their aura. From just our one meeting, I could tell that Luke’s mate, Zara, was not an evil person. Simply a protective and suspicious one. As we arrived at the dining room, we were ushered to our seats. Seated at the head chair of the dining table was who I knew was the Alpha of the pack, simply because of the aura I perceived from him. He looked frail and I could easily tell that he would not last too much longer. His daughter was seated to his right, and other ranked members of his p
Jasmine’s POV Since I had no choice in the matter, I took amusement from wherever I could. At the moment, the amusement I derived from the expression of disbelief on the face of my former mate was one that brought me immense satisfaction indeed. He remained standing in the same spot since he had seen me, with his Beta beside him. “So it is true then?” He asked again, the disbelief suddenly giving way to an emotion I did not quickly realize. “She has already said that it is”, Lena replied hotly from where she way seated. He finally broke his gaze away from mine to shoot her a heated glare. “And who might you be?” He asked with a threatening growl. Before I could open my mouth to warn him to not speak that way to her, her mate, whose hand remained possessively on her shoulder, spoke. “She is my mate”, Alpha Gaius said, the warning clear in his tone and the brief flickering of his eyes that warned that his wolf was not so far from the surface, ready to attack any threat
Regan’s POV It did not take us long to arrive at Redclaw pack once my request to be accepted into the pack was granted. A part of me had thought it would have been rejected and was quite satisfied with that since it meant Luke would be spared the emotional torture the meeting might turn out to be for him. All the same, he rode beside me with a straight face, obviously deep in his thoughts that I did not dare intrude upon. A part of me suddenly wished we had not come with horses. It meant our quest would have been faster in a sense. We could have run in our wolf forms to arrive at the packs we had to visit. However, three concerns had made me decide otherwise. The first was that we had planned to visit several packs, which meant we had to come with a lot of gifts for each pack we visited, hence why we had to bring along two carts. Running in our wolf form meant we would have had to carry all those tributes and gifts and would have left us exhausted very quickly, especi
Jasmine’s POV After my judgment on the mother and daughter who had lied against Amy, I noticed that members of my pack began to treat me differently. And not in a bad way. If they had treated me with anything close to respect, due to the fact that I was their Alpha’s mate, they now treated me with respect and admiration. Lena had ensured that my sentences on the mother and daughter were carried out. More than anyone, she had been proud of how I had handled the case and took great joy in narrating the occurrence in great detail to Nana and Mari, who had been disappointed that they had not been present to witness the even for themselves. Amy and Emry’s mother, who worked closely alongside Nana at the healing house was full of thanks, even going as far as shedding a few tears, to express her gratitude for how I had come to her daughter’s rescue. Like her daughter, she was a quiet she-wolf who had lost her husband years ago and worked at the healing house to provide for her
Regan’s POV After getting Stonghold pack’s pledge, we visited six more packs that gave similar responses, all pledging to come when we called. Since each pack we visited insisted we dined with them and even spend the night before continuing our journey, as was customary hospitality among werewolves, I could not turn them down without being disrespectful. Especially since I had come to seek their aid. This simply meant that our journey took longer than originally planned. I had to write to Nana to tell her that all was well with us after receiving several spelled messages from her and Gaia, all enquiring about our well being. I knew that Jasmine would be the most worried of everyone back at home. And that was the last thing I wanted, to worry or upset her in any well. It would not be good for both her and our pup. As we rested in the rooms provided for us by the current pack we were visiting, a knock on my door drew my attention from the map I had been observing. I immediat
