The first light of dawn filtered through the curtains, casting a soft, golden glow across the room. I opened my eyes slowly, a dull ache radiating through my body with every movement. Pain was a constant reminder of the torment I had endured at the hands of Zane, but as I lay there, I began to comprehend a new reality – I was safe. I was back in my pack, surrounded by those who cared for me. The familiarity of my surroundings provided a strange comfort amidst the lingering pain.

"Amanda, you're awake!" a voice exclaimed softly. It was Beatrice, my Gamma, her eyes filled with concern as she sat by my bedside. Her presence was a balm to my wounded spirit.

"Bea," I whispered, my throat dry and raspy. "How long have I been out?"

"Two days," she replied, her hand gently squeezing mine. "We were so worried about you."

I struggled to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my ribs, and I winced. Beatrice quickly helped me, propping me up with pillows.
