Just like Luke said, they wouldn’t shoot her or Noah. Luke confessed in the interrogation, that Noah was also a target, and they needed him alive. Till now they couldn’t fathom why, and Luke was also in the dark. All roads were blocked to answer their questions.

The men stood in an arch, caging Ophelia and Noah, the houses behind them blocked their escape to the forest. Ophelia sensed the hesitation when no one tried to shoot them down. They were outnumbered, the regiment before them cut all contact with the other side of the plaza.

She turned to Noah. "We wouldn't be trapped here if you only told someone you are coming here!"

“They are hesitant,” Noah said, his voice had an edge as he ignored her sarcasm. “But don’t let your guard down.”

Ophelia took a deep breath, released it and unleashed her powers. She felt it course through her veins tickling her fingertips as it took form around her. The aura danced gracefully in the dense air, surrounding her like a cocoon of bright violet.

The earth shook underneath their feet knocking them over. The rubble from the explosion shattered on them like hail, burying them under. The dust rose in a mushroom-shaped cloud making the visibility next to none. After the explosion the rubble kept falling, colliding with one another, breaking into smaller debris before reaching the ground. It took a while for it to settle. Ophelia barely shielded herself with her aura, she felt the strength sip away from her under the rubble, a boulder threatened to smash her lungs. She struggled to lift it off her and sit upright. She was lucky enough that none of the bigger pieces were atop her. Her ears were ringing painfully, and she thought they were bleeding. The world was muted to nothing more than muffled sounds, she forced herself to stand up feeling her knees buckling under her weight. She remembered Luke. He was the closest to her, she was talking to him a moment ago. She spun in panic, searching for her brother through the rubble around

Crow fell lifeless. The blood splattered on Luke, mixing with his own blood from the wound on his side. He was stunned in place as if time had stopped. The bullet came from behind Luke, aimed for Crow’s head. Luke saw the gap it left in Crow’s forehead before his knees buckled. Crow’s lifeless body seemed alive, as if kneeling before Luke. Crow's dark brown eyes lost their light as he stared at the ground, forever. The world was muted as they tried to register what happened, it was all too fast. Another wave of soldiers flanked them from the central plaza. Noah and Ophelia moved closer together unconsciously, awaiting the next series of fights. But what they saw next made them shudder. Behind Luke, the horizon was a black line smudged by military gear, reflecting the moonlight off their plates—men who seemed to have just arrived. They ringed around them, sealing off the Plaza from the rest. Ophelia quickly scanned them to spot the one who killed Crow, but failing. Hero was the only o

If Dustin had used himself for his experiments, and all that made no sense, it must have reached his head the wrong way. The whole presence of this mundane was creeping her out, and his snake-like tongue wasn’t helping either. Something was unsettling in the way he was eying Noah as well. She felt he knew Noah, not just as a target but on a deeper level, which was impossible in every way. Ophelia turned to follow Dustin’s gaze at Bernard and Valarie. They were a mess from the battle, their royal clothes were torn with blood staining the once vibrant colors, and their skin was tainted with smoke and debris. But Ophelia saw the fear in their eyes. As if they have been caught lying. “Hero was right,” Noah said, breaking the long awkward silence. “You are talking too much and there is no reason for us to hear you out.” “Are you scared Noah Hireath?” Dustin asked disregarding Noah's words, his eyes narrowed as the corner of his lips twisted into a sly smirk. “Scared of the truth?”Noah

“It’s your birthday, Noah.”The words sounded more of a question than a statement, as if she hadn't celebrated Noah's birthday every year for the last six years. When they snuggled near each other hiding from the chill of the night underneath the blankets, and a cup of cocoa warming their young hands.“Ophelia what the hell are you saying right now?!” Noah said, covering the distance between them in long strides. He was a hot mess, his shirt ripped and stained with dried blood. He had his long sleeves rolled to his elbow revealing the veins bulging along his thick forearm. Ophelia physically felt Noah by her side, he gave out anger in his every move. She was mad too. How could she even think of believing this man? Just because he was babbling about something doesn’t make it true, she knew that too, but… She felt it in her gut.Deep inside her, a calling made her believe, making her doubt the truth she lived for the past six years. And you do the next right thing.”Noah couldn’t recall when was the last time he found himself stuck in a situation where he didn’t know what to do, it wasn't like him he had an answer and a way out of everything. He was usually quick to think and react, no matter the pressure or the stacks. However, he was shackled in place, heavy chains wrapped around his hands and feet, it felt heavy. It was hard to move – his mind refused to register fearing what was lying ahead. Something inside him knew what awaited him, and it refused to let him go. It wanted to seal the truth from him, protect him. But he had to know. Ophelia was right, he had to know. “Once I press this button your brother will die,” Dustin said. Ophelia shuddered breaking into a cold sweat, she felt it run down her spine beneath her ruined clothes. She didn’t believe him, but deep down she couldn’t help but think it was true. So far, whatever Dustin said has come true. What would make him lie about this one? When it was her brother's life they were talking about.“You are lying,” Ophelia said, her voice seemed like she was trying to convince herself. Dustin saw that too, a smirk touched the corner of his mouth. “I don’t know what you did to Luke,” Dustin replied, leaning closer, his breath fogging on the shield. “But he is still mine to control.” Before Ophelia could say anything she felt Luke move behind her. She turned quickly, she drew a sharp breath as she stared at the abyss which was his eyes. Luke's glare was cold and cruel, he wasn’t himself. He wasn’t Luke. His eyes were lifeless and cold, the light in them was lost in total darkness. She knew this l

Blood gushed out from Dustin's shoulder as a bullet pierced its way through his flesh. Ophelia bearly saw what happened next. Alpha Enzo was standing a few feet away from Dustin before he shot him, his expression was horrified not believing what he had done. Once the bullet did its deed, Enzo hesitated but only for a second before attacking, wrapping his arm around Dustin’s neck, and trying to snap it in two. But it was useless, this man's neck seemed to be made of steel, the best he could do was stale him.Dustin was caught off guard and it cost him dearly. Enzo used his free hand, snatching the device from Dustin’s hand, and threw it with his whole force in Ophelia’s direction. She was quick on her feet, dashing towards the device, and caught it before it smashed against the ground. “Destroy it, Ophelia!” Enzo yelled out, struggling to keep Dustin captive. “To hell with you and your royal blood,” he hissed darkly, licking the blood off his fingers. “I’ll kill you tonight.” Dustin severed the last thread between him and sanity. It has been a year since 18.6.2024…The day Ophelia’s life had taken a turn forever. It was hard at first to keep on living, to be the only survivor it got to her harder than ever since all hope had vanished with the day she set E.VI.L on fire. However, time proved to be stronger than any sensation that lingered after that accident. She soon began to overcome it all. Though she never forgot. But it didn’t hurt as much anymore. Having Noah and Luke by her side made it all easier since she focused on preserving what she had left rather than what she had lost. She was sure that would be what her clan wanted her to do. She lived on carrying their memory with her every breath. “Ophelia!” She snapped out of her trance to return to reality. Luke hovered over her as she crouched down before her parent's graves. It was summer now, the snow melted and the sky above was clear. The birds sang atop the trees behind the graves of the Crescent. Flowers sprouted beside her parent's graves in s

The ocean spread vastly around the yacht in all directions. The horizon line turned dark blue as they sailed away from Glaham. The sky weaved with the water in perfect harmony. There were little to no clouds in the sky. It had been raining cats and dogs the past few days. She appreciated the sun today. Ophelia took a seat on the roof of the yacht, it was all in white, the metal, the fabric, it all gave a sense of serenity with the sound of crashing waves against the boat’s belly. Luke on the other hand couldn’t decide if it was better on the roof or the deck, and in his pursuit, he climbed up and down over a dozen times. Finally, when they were halfway through their journey, he decided to settle next to his sister, his pale features were paler as he sat with a loud thud.“All is good?” Ophelia asked raising an eyebrow, offering her pack of chips that she saved from her brother’s wrath. Luke waved her off and gagged. “I think I’m getting sick.”“I told you not to eat too much before

Later after Ophelia left Noah, she headed to her room to change into something more comfortable for the long way ahead. It would take them almost half a day to reach the organization according to Luke’s statements. They will take a ship from the shores of Encford. Ophelia recalled Margret, Enzo’s daughter. News of the Alpha’s death has probably reached them by now. This whole trip was to fulfill her promise to Enzo, to get the medicine needed for his daughter’s survival. Alpha Laura promised to do her best to study the medicine and replicate it if possible. Aside from the promise, she wanted to see what it was like for Luke there, and the other Crescents. During Luke’s interrogation, he mentioned that some Crescents were still held captive by the organization. Ophelia held back from having any hope at all. It has been a long time since their capture, there was no knowing what changed in them during these years. She was able to bring back her brother, deep down she wanted to save

The last gift…As Noah told her earlier, he was present for his father’s funeral. Ophelia never got the chance to attend funerals except for her clan's.But she was sure they were meant to be more crowded than this. It was her, Noah, and his parents, Merrick, Oswald, and Hero. No one else came. No one wanted to be here. The Council only approved this burial as a thank you to Noah for being a hero. Ophelia didn’t judge them, she would be lying if she said she felt sorry for Dustin. She was here because of what it meant to Noah. He wanted to bury a part of him with Dustin. Lock it all underneath the wooden lid of the coffin, and deep into the ground. Perhaps then, it would make his heart feel lighter. It was raining lightly now in the woods, the sky was paid actor as it shed tears over all those they had lost, the water droplets puttered against the leaves above their heads in a steady rhythm. Noah chose to bury his father on the flat land next to the lake. He hated this lake, alway

Rain…The rain continued for the next two days. The sun shined behind the dense clouds, its rays escaping through the gaps to illuminate the destruction of Glaham. The horizon was a thin line of smug and debris. The rain puttered on the leaves of what remained of nature and the trees. The once bright and soothing woods ringing the mansion now resembled a ghost city. Ophelia stood at her window, the rain drizzling down her window heavily. Her heart ached at the state of Moonglade, it reminded her of the time she returned to the Crescents after the arson. The destroyed homes, the blood-soaked streets, and the bone-chilling cold. Her eyes refocused on her reflection in the window. She looked tired. Her platinum white hair was tied up behind her head, her eyes were red-rimmed with lack of sleep, and dark circles reached her cheeks. She was dressed in a black button-up shirt and a black skirt. All the black brought attention to her tired and wary pale face. Whenever she closed her eyes to

Ophelia…The world went serene. Time stopped as if someone pushed the pause button. Warm light shyly intervened from the heavens. There were no shadows, or demons threatening the fated mates. Noah felt at ease as if someone was hugging his heart from within. The throbbing in his chest was gone the moment he saw Ophelia crouching in front of him, her long platinum hair falling like a curtain around her face.Noah got to his feet, lighter, his footsteps echoing in the air as he knelt to her side, gently touching her shoulders. Ophelia trembled softly under his touch, she slowly held her head up, her eyes shyly popping out between her messed-up hair. Her violet eyes were rimmed red, she had been crying. Noah couldn’t help the smile that touched his mouth. He rarely sees tears in Ophelia's eyes; when he does, he can’t help the empathy crawling into his heart. “Come forth! Nymeria!”The eruption started from inside Ophelia. She felt it in her chest as it rattled against her rips, something was breaking free of constraints. Nymeria. She blazed in violet and light as if Ophelia was the center of a torture and her fire burned bright around her. It sent a shock wave in a ring around her, bringing the battle’s attention to her. She felt the ecstasy wash over her. In her hand, her power took form. It materialized from thin air into the most beautiful sword Ophelia lay her eyes on. The blade dazzled as it caught the light, it seared in the smug air, as if a star fell from the star right into her hands. The metallic hilt wrapped around her hand and wrist gracefully like satin. The sword was light in her hand, she felt it pulsating in her palm as it came alive. “We do this together!” Ophelia stood center, Merrick and Hero on her right and Oswald on her left, she felt their auras pulsate in the air around them.“Are you sure you are well enough to fight?” Merrick muttered, his voice low only for Hero, but Ophelia heard it. “I’ve never felt better,” Hero said, stretching his arms over his head. Laura’s power healed the broken rips and wounds on his abdomen. He could feel the phantom of the pain where his shoulder dislocated, earlier a boulder fell from a collapsing house shattering his bones. Laura undid the damage with her healing powers. Ophelia couldn’t prickle to hear their conversation longer. Dustin stood before them unmoving, watching them with a cold lifeless expression, a smirk touched the corners of his mouth.
