After finishing our conversation, I questioned him word by word:

"So you've been pretending all these years. Don't you feel exhausted?"

The man froze.

"I haven't, Brenda."

"Believe me, I really love—"

"So you've said you love me countless times. Don't you feel disgusted?" I interrupted, my voice trembling, not allowing him to finish.

"Susie found my book in the bedroom closet. You knew it was from my grandmother, yet you let her trample on it carelessly!

"You let her sleep in my bed, wear my pajamas, tear up my things.

"Jake, have you ever respected me even for a moment?"

As I finished speaking, the man's eyes darkened.

His eyes suddenly turned red, but he remained silent.

I wasn't really seeking an answer.

But did Jake truly not know?

He always knew what mattered most to me.

Because he never truly loved me, he let others trample on everything freely.

So he didn't care if I would be sad or hurt.
