Chapter 6

A warm stream trickled down between my eyebrows.

When she saw this, panic flashed in the woman's eyes.

In my mind, her words "useless dead grandmother" kept echoing.

An overwhelming pain, mixed with suffocation, washed over me.

"How dare you talk about her like that?" I shouted at her, raising my hand to slap her face.

The next second, my wrist was firmly gripped.

Then I was violently pushed to the ground.

My palm accidentally pressed against broken glass, sending a sharp pain through my hand.

Enduring the pain, I looked back and saw Jake anxiously holding Susie.

His eyes were gentle and concerned as he spoke to her.

Unfortunately, my hearing aid had fallen off, so I couldn't hear how he was softly comforting the frightened woman in his arms.

After a moment, the man looked at me.

His eyes no longer held their usual warmth.

Only coldness and disgust remained.

When he saw my blood-covered face, surprise flashed across his features.

Then his lips moved, but I couldn't hear
