"Don't you agree, Brenda?" Mrs. Thompson's lilting tone carried a hint of pressure.

Upon hearing her words, I let out a soft sigh.

"Mrs. Thompson, I am not anyone's possession, nor am I a tool for maintaining your family's reputation."

"Jake's infidelity is far more outrageous than anything I have done. I think he's the one who needs your guidance."

There was silence on the other end of the line.

Then, the sound of a cup being slammed onto a table.

Her voice turned sharp:

"Brenda Larson, if you don't take the chance I am giving you, do not blame me for making you the second person who cannot show their face in this country again!"

Hearing this, I frowned slightly.

Had Susie been forced to go abroad by Mrs. Thompson?

Thinking of this, I said coldly:

"I would welcome that."

That night, I received a call from one of Jake's friends.

"Brenda, Jake is drunk. Come pick him up quickly."

I was about to refuse, but then thought that this might be a way to find him.
