"You're going to show me your wolf?" I asked again, surprised by his words. Where did he get this idea from? I have known Ethan for more than three months and I haven't seen his wolf. I have found myself wondering what he would look like in his raw, animal form but I never had the guts to outright ask him about it. It was a weird conversation starter. How do you ask someone to show you their wolf anyway?

Honestly, I never actually felt that level of security in my and Ethan's relationship, which could give me the confidence to ask him about it. Funny, how he brought the matter on his own, without any hint or nudging from my side.

"Yeah. Why? You don't want to?" Ethan joked, knowing fully well that I was jumping with curiosity and excitement at the prospect of his wolf.

It has been a little over six months since I came to know about the existence of werewolves. Back home, I had seen so many pack members shift in their wolves and I had even ridden on two of them but nothing could take away the thrill of watching someone shift.

When a person shifts into a werewolf, every bone of their body breaks and rearranges to support the shifting or transition. So, it most definitely is painful but for a viewer like me, who can only hear the sounds of bone cracking and see the fur sprouting, it's an intriguing experience. The magic and charm of watching someone shift was never going to go away for me. At least, I hoped it didn't.

I quickly unlatched my seat belt, opened the car door, and jumped out of the vehicle, eager to see Ethan's shifting process and his wolf. Ethan laughed at my eagerness and I beamed at him in return.

He walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk of his car. He took out a bag, put it on his shoulder, and motioned for me to follow him.

"So, how did you get this idea?" I asked as I followed Ethan into the woods. He kept walking deeper into the woods, so no one could see us. Well, he didn't have to worry about that, this place looked deserted and completely devoid of human inhabitance. How did he even find this place?

"I have been thinking about it for a while now, honestly. I decided I wanted to do it and show you my wolf after you told me about our Batair situation. And I wanted to see something for myself."

"And what's that?" I asked as I carefully avoided the tangle of roots, which would have taken my clumsy self down on the ground.

"I have a suspicion but I won't know if it's true in my human form. I'll tell you when I know for sure." He said, his voice sounding ominous in the forest.

I looked back to see how far we had come from the tree line, only to see that the tree line was nowhere in sight. We must have covered more ground than I thought, but then again, we have been walking for fifteen minutes now.

"I think it's deep enough!" Ethan looked around the forest and then turned to face me. Okay, so this was the place he would shift.

"Here, take this." He motioned me to take the bag from his hand, the same bag he had taken out from the trunk of his car.

I took it from him, eager to know what was inside. It was light enough, so I opened it. Inside the bag, there was a pair of jeans, boxer briefs, and a pair of socks.

"I need you to hold onto that. I'm going to need those after I tear off my clothes after shifting." Ethan said, pointing at the bag.

Did that mean he wasn't going to be stripping? I wanted to groan and stomp my feet like a child but I didn't have the guts to tell Ethan that he had taken half the pleasure of seeing him shifting away.

I reprimanded myself as soon as the thought crossed my mind. Hormonal Zara was reminiscing about the abs she had felt while she made out with Ethan the other day.

"You look a little disappointed." Ethan points out and I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out. What was I even supposed to say?

He laughed at my dumb self pulled the hem of his shirt and threw it at me. His laugh echoed in the first while I hid my red cheeks from him by stuffing my face into his shirt while inhaling his cologne at the same time.

"You looked like you needed a show!" Ethan laughed at me while I narrowed my eyes at his smug expression.

I immediately took in his sculpted and shirtless body. If objectifying women was bad, I was sure objectifying men was bad too, but please could you blame me when someone this good was standing in front of me? My eyes raked over his muscles and finally met his eyes, which had a burning in them. I think I know what he was thinking which made me blush even more.

Ethan smirked at me and made a show out of unbuttoning his pants. He kicked off his shoes and stood in front of me, in all his semi-naked glory. Let me tell you people, Ethan in just his boxers is a sight for sore eyes!

"Well, here goes nothing." With that, Ethan hunched over and I immediately knew that he had started his shifting process. I clutched the straps of the bag tightly as I watched him groan, as he shifted. His bones broke and rearranged, his mouth transformed into a snout and fur sprouted from his otherwise clear skin. A few seconds later, a wolf was standing in front of, where Ethan had just stood.

A completely black wolf. Dark as the darkest night.

Harper's wolf was white while Ethan's was black. The irony wasn't lost on me.

I took a few steps forward, checking to see if his wolf was comfortable with me. I knew the wolf wouldn't attack me because it was Ethan but I had to know if his wolf was comfortable with me. When the wolf didn't retreat, my confidence increased and I covered the remaining distance between us with confident strides.

He wasn't as tall as Harper was, but somehow, looked just as deadly. I hesitantly put my hand forward to show his wolf that I was going to touch him. Instead of backing away, he leaned forward and let me touch his snout.

I smiled at the fact that he took the first step, which meant that Ethan's wolf was comfortable with me. The thought made me flush with happiness and pride.

I took hold of his huge wolf face and looked at his giant beast eyes, which seemed to be gouging my every move. I moved my hands gently through his thick black fur, watching my fingers disappear in the thick coat. The wolf purred under my hands and I smiled at his closed eyes and the sounds he was making.

I chuckle at the soft purring machine that is Ethan's wolf. He sure likes to be a pet. He growls when my hands stop and I laugh at how adorable it is.

After a few moments, his wolf nudged me and then lowered to the ground a bit. I knew what he was trying to say. His wolf wanted me to get on his back and go for a ride. Well, if I had known his wolf was into this kind of thing, I would have worn a jean or something and not a stupid sundress.

I pout and point to my sundress. "I can't. I'm wearing a dress."

The wolf rolled his eyes and scoffed at my words. He nudged me again and bent even lower, signaling me to get on top of him, not caring about the fact that I was wearing a dress. I huffed at his demanding wolf and shook my head.

His wolf growled in return and nudged me again. I finally gave in as I remembered how amazing it felt to ride on the back of a wolf. So, I gave in to his pleas.

I adjusted my sundress so he couldn't peek at me and then climbed his beast of a body. I felt his muscles clench as he stood up to his full height after I carefully placed myself on him. He trotted a few steps in the forest to make sure I was comfortable.

He growled, alerting me that he was going to increase his pace. I bunched his fur in my hands and leaned forward to maintain my balance as Ethan's wolf started to run through the forest.

My ponytail whipped as the air struck us. A few of the tendrils escaped the hair tie and I laughed at how amazing it felt. I had missed this, riding on a wolf was one of the best things I had ever experienced and I would never get tired of it.

The world blurred as the wolf increased his pace. He bounced around, effectively dodging trees and roots, all the while making sure that I was still on top of him, and not flying away after losing my balance. I would crack my spine against a tree if I were to accidentally lose hold and balance.

After a few hours of running, his wolf made its way back to the spot where Ethan had shifted and where I had left his bag of clothes.

His wolf lowered slowly and I climbed off of him, enthralled and amazed by the experience. When I got off, he picked up the bag with his teeth and disappeared behind some bushes, to shift back and clothe himself.

I untied my ponytail, which I was sure a mess at the moment, and did it again. I adjusted my dress and calmed my beating and adrenaline-filled body for a few moments while I waited for Ethan to come back in his human form.

A few minutes later, Ethan came back, fully clothed, and as soon as he came within touching distance, I flung my body on his and hugged him as hard as I could. "Oh my god! That was amazing."

He put his arms around me and hugged me back, clearly pleased with my revelation. Ethan pulled back a little to look at me and smiled softly at me.

I smiled back. He leaned forward and captured my lips and I eagerly kissed him back.

~ Harper’s POV ~It had been a week since Zara called me and I still couldn't believe that I would never see her again. She had explicitly stated that she wasn't going to come back but there was something inside me, a feeling maybe, which said that I would be seeing her soon. Honestly, I didn't know if I should be optimistic and believe this feeling inside of me, because that would mean that I was hanging to a thread of hope. I never said I wasn't desperate for her but I was also a realist. She was my mate and I loved her. I didn't love her because I needed her, I needed her because I loved her. I know that was quite cheesy of me to say that, but it was true. There were so many things happening at once and I was stuck in between everything. There was no easy way out for me. I could go after my mate, but I would be abandoning my pack, which had no alpha and was under the target of a rogue pack. Circumstances in my life had led me to a crossroads and I didn't know which path to take.

I was falling and floating at the same time. I huffed mentally, knowing what was about to come my way now. I was going to meet the goddess and I had no choice about it. After our last visit, when she told me about what was happening back home, I hadn't heard from her for a few days and I had breathed a sigh of relief. I couldn't understand why she had to come and give me information in installments. I mean she could simply tell me whatever there was to know and we could both go our merry ways. I could go back to my complicated life and she could go back to whatever it was that the gods did to pass their eternity. It never failed to amaze me how soft the grass felt under my body in this heavenly world. It was almost poetic. I wondered what would happen if I chose not to meet the goddess on the cliff but instead roam around the enchanted forest. I was curious about the secrets this heavenly place held and I would also escape from meeting with the goddess. Killing two birds with one st

My father motioned for Aiden's father, Raphael, to speak, and what he said irritated the bubble inside me."We need to make Harper the alpha of the pack."I didn't know where he got this stupid idea in the first place. I know that he knew that to become an alpha, I needed to have my Luna with me. He also knew that Zara wasn't with me right now, so there was no way I could get the alpha position right now. It was basic werewolf knowledge and not some rocket science shit. My father scrunched his eyebrows in confusion. His pale face looked tired and withered and I hated to see him like that. Fragile in a hospital bed. But I also knew that I couldn't do anything about it. I was powerless here. Dad's healing was dependent on his willpower and his wolf's strength. I just hoped that it was enough to get my father in shape as soon as possible because I had a feeling these rogues were not going to rest for a long time. They had done considerable damage to the pack infrastructure and werewolf

No questions asked. My wolf felt relaxed too, as the faint smell of Zara surrounded us. My wolf took a deep whiff of her scent, hoping to wrap it around himself permanently. I shifted and turned my body around in sleep. I was stuck in the sweet limbo between sleep and conscious awakening. It was a sweet place to be.Last night, after my father had woken up and after the blasted meeting, I had let my wolf let off some steam. He had run for hours and was still surprisingly still feeling restless and ready to fight. I wasn't surprised when he had come to stop at the familiar house, after exhausting his muscles. I had resisted going to Zara's house to sleep for some time now. I had my reasons, one

~ Harper’s POV ~I needed to see my father immediately after getting the grave news of the murder of three innocent children. The incident was creeping into my conscience and was making me and my wolf feel reckless, vengeful, and guilty at the same time. So, that's exactly what I did.I walked over to the hospital and got my daily dose of coffee before mustering up enough courage to read the news to him. I knew the news would hit him hard. As an alpha, it was his job to take care of the people in the pack, as well as the people of the town. And to fail so miserably at the heavy task was a blow to one's confidence. I gave myself a mental pep talk before entering my dad's room. Mom and Katelyn had gone to the pack house to get fresh and change into new clothes. In all this drama, I didn't get enough time with my baby sister and I wanted to change that but there was no way in hell I could sit around while a dangerous enemy was looming in the background.I walked inside the room to find

When young people talked to mates, you could practically feel their longing and the love they had for their mates. When teenagers talk about mates, you can feel their desperation to find their mates and be one with them. Rejections in my pack were extremely rare and every werewolf lived happily ever after with their fated mates. There were no doubts, no questions asked because your mate could be the exact fit of your soul, your second half, and the one who you are supposed to live as long as you live. EPILOGUE 3: HARPER'S POV (TEN YEARS LATER)It was three years ago when Mason was first teased by a classmate about the unusual arrangement of his parents. I had always known that as he was growing up, he became especially attuned to the fact that the way his family lived wasn't exactly normal by usual standards. There were so many unusual factors that they were bound to seem different to him and I wasn't exactly prepared for how Mason was coping with how different his family seemed to be from any other family in the pack. As the future alpha, it was essential to be a part of the pack because other people were often intimidated by the power you had and by the power you would have in the future. My father always taught me to be a part of the pack but always remember that you could never essentially be a part of the pack. And this is exactly what I had taught Mason to do; I had asked him to play with all the other wolf kids but always remember that in the future, he will be responsible

Epilogue 2: Zara's POVI could feel everyone's eyes on me, which instantly made me nervous. I hated feeling this way but I wasn't sure I could help it. I hated being the centre of attention and walking down an aisle and standing in front of all the pack members to take part in the Luna ceremony was exactly that, being the centre of attention. Harper had told me that since I was the true luna of the pack, the ceremony would be a little different and I wasn't sure how that would affect me as I hadn't exactly attended Natalie's ceremony. I weakly smiled at all the pack members assembled in the pack grounds and started walking down the aisle towards the raised stage at the front of the pack. I was barefoot to pay homage to the natural aspect of the pack and to respect the raw nature of the wolves. The grass was soft beneath my feet and I immediately compared the softness to the grass in the spirit world where I used to meet the moon goddess. Harper had instructed me to not look around an

His amazing body heat and the tingles that danced all over my skin whenever we touched made me let out a deep, sleepy moan. I felt Harper stir beside me and felt his arm settle on my bare hip, eliciting a heady warmth to settle deep in my belly. His thumb gently caressed my hip bone and I moved closer to him, determined to have as much skin contact as possible and leave no space between us. Harper's scent surrounded me, which brought an involuntary sleepy smile to my face. Even with my eyes closed, I could picture Harper's slightly upturned nose as he slept. It was too hard to resist his adorable expressions so most of the time, I didn't even try. My head rested on his shoulder and my face settled in the crook of his neck. Without needing to open my eyes, I leaned forward and planted an open-mouthed kiss on Ha

I thought about it for so many months, because the act of being marked by Harper seemed final. It felt like a full stop and in a way, it was final, an end. I knew the meaning of being marked even before I had decided to go away when I had learned of Natalie's pregnancy. I had asked him to mark me so many months ago and he had refused. It seemed so long ago, Aiden's birthday party when he found out that Samantha was his mate. So much has happened since then, things that have made me value the most precious things in life, let go of grudges, and the importance of relationships. After all, I have been through, I believe I have grown as a person. Not just me either, I know that all of us, Harper, Natalie, Samantha, and Aiden have grown up and matured in a way that most eighteen-year-olds don't. Well, Natalie is nineteen years old and so is Harper, as of today. So, I want to stress the fact that the decision to mate with Harper wasn't a light one even though I know most people wouldn't s

~ Harper’s POV~"You do realize that to break the bond between us, either one of us will have to complete the mating process and mark our mates," I remarked and watched as Natalie nodded her head in acknowledgment. We had just gotten back after performing the final rites of the pack warriors who had lost their lives from the battle with the rogues. Needless to say, we needed some time to regain our bearings before we mingled with the rest of the world. I had done it before when my father was fighting for his life and I still found it jarring to my being, to perform the final rites of the werewolves who lose their lives. I couldn't imagine how Natalie must be feeling as it was her first time dealing with this ceremony. And hopefully, the last time. "I know," she said and we didn't speak for a few moments. The loss of his presence was so pronounced that I didn't want to open my eyes. It felt like he was the only reason I wasn't emotionally breaking down right now. A very big part of me wanted to be near him right now and the fact that he wasn't here with me disappointed me a lot. Even in my dreams, I had expected him to be here with me, helping me get over my loss. I wanted to never open my eyes and I was glad the room was shrouded in darkness.
