Chapter 6

Amelia’s POV

So I’m proposed by a wolf, no, a werewolf. I don’t know. He looks nothing different from human beings, but he says he’s a werewolf. And he’s a damn rich one who owns a mansion.

Is it reality or am I just dreaming?

I know from a very young age that there isn’t such a thing as a free lunch, let alone a free mansion. Life has always been a shit for me. That’s why my first reaction was to wonder whether it was a fraud when Nyx told me that I was going to live here in this fabulous mansion. I don’t think life will suddenly treat me well. I’ll thank God if only life is fair to me.

Nyx asks me about my honest thoughts, of course I can’t tell him my honest thoughts. The earnestness and the possessiveness in his eyes make me a little scared. Somehow I know rejection is out of the question.

And he seems so enthusiastic about the mate thing. It’s the first day we met, and he talked endlessly about starting a family and even getting pups. I guess he means children, and that really freaks me out.

“I’m not sure. Nyx, it’s too sudden and I’m still not prepared for it,” I answer, very careful about my diction.

I’m turning him down as gracefully as I can. But he seems unfazed by my answer.

“It’s not a big deal. Amelia. We have plenty of time,” he says gently. He reaches out his hand to pat my head. Jesus, I don’t like the way he treats me, it’s like he’s treating a baby. But still, I force a smile at him.

His phone rings again. He checks his phone and looks at me apologetically.

“Sorry, mate. I need to leave now. You have a lot of time to know about me and the pack and figure everything out. But you need to stay in the pack. You can’t leave here, understand?” He asks.

I nod in a docile way, while deep inside, I’m already cursing.

Does he hear what he talks about? Why should I need to stay in the pack? Why can’t I leave?

He leans over slightly. Caught off guard by his sudden movement, I widen my eyes and lean back, trying to dodge, but he’s too quick. He puts his hand behind my head and then gives me a gentle kiss on my forehead. It makes me freeze on the spot. Honestly, he’s the first male to kiss me.

He quickly withdraws and looks at me with a smile. I guess I should smile now, too. So I force a smile at him. I’m not sure if I see it right, but it seems my smile cheers him up.

The instant he leaves the bedroom, I heave a sigh of relief. Finally, I’m alone!

The next second, I jump up and look outside from the window. I was observing the architecture and arrangement of the mansion when he showed me around. I know at this window I can observe the entrance of the mansion.

After half a minute, I see him walk out of the mansion. Now it’s my turn to leave.

He asked me not to leave this pack. What is he thinking about? I’m an adult with a sound body and a brain that’s above average. I can go wherever I want, and nobody has the right to interfere.

I’ll use the back door, which is the passage for servants. Nyx tells me about it. He also tells me that the servants in the pack house are off today to join the mating party. I guess the security is also weak today. But I’m still in a dress and high heels. I need clothes that can make escape easier. Where do the servants live? I rummage through the rooms and soon find a servant’s uniform. I change into the uniform and find a pair of shoes that seem quite new. Then I leave my dress and high heels there. These are way much more expensive than servant’s uniform. Today sucks!

I sneak out from the back door and escape from the pack without a hitch. I meet some people in the pack, but I’m in the servant’s uniform, so no one doubts me.

I run aimlessly. It’s best if I can return to the party and then go back to the suburbs. Because that’s when things start to become weird. I don’t know where the party is held, but I see a car driving back to the pack. And I’ll just run in that direction and play it by ear.

Oh, the party! It’s all Bucks’ fault! When I go back home, I won’t pay that rich couple even if Bucks is lost. Their dog gets me in such big trouble.

I don’t know how long I have run, and I’m exhausted. I need a ride. I know it might be risky, but I’m willing to take the risk. I’ve already gone through the most unbelievable and weird thing, I don’t think it can get any worse.

As I run, I’m also looking for a chance to hitchhike.

Luckily, I don’t wait for a long time. A van passes by, I wave my hands at it. It stops in front of me. As the driver rolls down the window, I’m about to ask them for a flavor in my sweet tone. But when I see the guy sitting in the passenger’s seat, my face changes.

It’s old George!

Yes, it can get any worse!
