Chapter 5

Nyx’s POV

A human being mate.

These words don’t sound that annoying the instant my eyes fall on her. The moment our eyes lock, all these years of waiting are worth it! And I swear I’ll do everything to protect her from any harm.

I know it won’t be an easy thing for my pack to accept her, but I don’t care.

Although she’s a human being, she’s the most beautiful girl I’ve seen in my entire life. When I hold her fragile body in my arms and I carry her into the mansion, she glances around the mansion with her almond eyes wide and her eyelashes flustering. It’s so adorable. And the way she gets easily startled like a bird is so cute that I can feel my heart softening. My smile grows larger as I think of how she complimented my “perfume”.

When I tell her the pack thing, she seems completely shocked and unable to accept it, but she has to accept it. Hopefully, she can accept it without going through much pain.

I stand up from the sofa, take off her high heels, and hold her in my arms again. She seems taken aback by my movement.

“I’m your mate. It’s my pleasure to carry you.” I hold her as gently as possible.

I can tell she really loves this mansion. So I carry her upstairs and take her to the third floor. I open the door and turn on the lights. This spacious room serves not only as my study room, but also a little museum with many collections.

“Wow!” Amelia glances around the room in great awe with her eyes wide open, like a baby who first explores the strange world with eyes.

Such a cute reaction!

I carry her to the shelves of books. I change the position so that I can carry her with one arm. Startled by my sudden movement, she wraps her hands around my shoulder for fear she might fall down. It amuses me. My mate still knows nothing about what I’m capable of.

I take out one book entitled The History of the Sapphire Pack from the shelf and shows it to her.

“History?” she looks at me in confusion.

“Yes. My pack was founded two hundred years ago. It’s the most powerful and richest pack in this country,” I look at her in the eye deeply. “And you’ll be part of the history, too, because you’re my mate.”

Her eyes widen, her pupils almost popping out. It makes me laugh. As the alpha, I manage the pack with a strong mind and an iron fist. I seldom smile. But I find myself constantly smiling in front of Amelia. Now I feel so lucky that she is my mate. Thank you, the Moon Goddess.

I walk forward while carrying her. Her eyes are fixed on a picture on the wall. It’s a large painting about a pack war. My grandfather, the alpha of the pack then, is the most fierce and strong werewolf among all the packs. He can kill ten top warriors with one slap.

I point at my grandfather and introduce him with great pride.

“This was my grandpa in a war. This is a critical war for our pack. And he won it.”

I thought Amelia would be amazed by my grandfather’s feat. To my surprise, she looks at me as if I’m insane. She freezes and seems lost for words for a while, before she slowly turns her eyes from the painting to me.

“This wolf … was your grandfather?”

“Werewolf.” I correct her.

Silence fall.

After seconds, she finally nods and says, “OK.”

“His DNA runs in my blood. So I’m the strongest alpha of all the alphas.” I turn to look at her lovingly. “And our pup will be as strong, too. I mean, pups. We’re going to have the strongest pups!”

Silence falls again.

I don’t know if it’s because of the light, her face seems quite pale.

We keep going.

She is soon attracted by a crown. It’s a dazzling crown with the rarest sapphires. My pack has a large storage of sapphires, this is where the name comes from. The sapphires used in this crown are of the highest clarity.

Amelia looks at it closely with much admiration. She really loves it.

“This is the heirloom crown of my family. This belongs to you, my mate.” I introduce it to her with a smile.

She shoots me a glance before she looks back to the crown again. Good, she likes it. She can get as many as she wants.

After showing her around the study room, I bring her to my room, which will soon become our shared room, to take a rest.

I put her down on the lounge chair and look at her in the eye. There’s something I need to ask her now.

“Amelie, you’re silent for most of the time. I want to know your honest thoughts about staying here as my mate.” I try to sound as gentle as possible.

She’s silent. It seems my question makes her uneasy.

At this moment, my phone rings. It’s from Eva, the Luna of the pack.

This name makes me frown. I’m overwhelmed by the euphoria and I almost forget that I still have a Luna.

I’ve been mateless for years, but the pack needs Luna. Eva is the girl who’s most suitable for this position. She’s strong, smart, and also mateless.

I don’t know if Amelia can understand it. I’ll explain it to her later. She’ll know it, but not now.
