She placed them in the dishwasher and hoped that Katherine would play her part well.
“Hold on,” Melanie told Rick, who was almost climbing out of the room.
“What is it? Now is not the time,” Rick answered impatiently.
He knew Melanie could be a distraction, and he didn’t want to risk Katherine being found out.
“Are you serious with her, or is it still part of our deal? I can’t tell because you are acting so well,” Melanie said.
That night, Rick got home to find his mom sleeping on the couch. She hadn’t covered herself, and she looked tired.
He walked past her quietly, took a duvet, and covered her, and just when he was about to walk out, she woke up.
“I fell asleep waiting for you. Have you spoken to your father?” Jenifer asked.
That was a bad introduction, and Rick hoped against hope that nothing bad had happened, but it had to be bad news.
