He had gotten into the hospital and got changed into hospital clothes. His father had signed the papers, and so had the stepmom.
The doctor had assured them that it would be over even before it had begun, and Rick had been given anesthesia before being wheeled into the theatre room.
“Where have you been? I have been dead worried about you,” Jenifer asked Rick when he got back home the following day, “Your phone was off, and you….”
“I’m fine. I went out with a friend. I thought of spending the night over,” Rick answered.
Jenifer was looking at him as if she could tell where he had been just from looking at him.
He felt her gaze go through him and thought of telling him the truth because she was bound to find out.
